Thanks ... hugely helpful

FYI - I'm an exclusive at istockphoto.com. Have been with them for over 14 years.

This is the current License Agreement on istockphoto.com ... http://www.istockphoto.com/legal/license-agreement

I've read it, but I'd like someone who's in-the-know to help me understand two things:

1. If, in my Flickr account, I disable all downloads and mark images with All Rights Reserved, can I upload images that are on istockphoto (with All Rights Reserved added to them) to flickr?

2. I've created some heavily edited and/or textured images that istockphoto.com would not be interested in. Also, I'm not intending on selling these images. They are just for display to others in my group.  If I disable all downloads and mark images with All Rights Reserved, can I upload these images to flickr?

FYI - I currently have a Flickr account but have not uploaded anything.

Thanks in advance for your help.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Veer Is Moving to Istockphoto.com

almost old news at this point:

Veer clients will be transitioned to iStock, so depending on how many clients they have, istock will get them. But NOT the photos.

iStockPhoto.com / Veer Is Moving to Istockphoto.com
« on: March 08, 2016, 16:10 »
http://www.mystockphoto.org/corbis-veer-closing/

From the article: Corbis microstock subsidiary Veer has just announced their closure effective March 30. Customers are being transferred with their remaining credits or a subscription to Gettys subsidiary iStock.

Images will not be transferred, as many contributors supplied both companies with the same content, this would have let to duplication and possible problems with the keywording systems. Veer has announced that contributors who are not supplying iStock so far are also invited to apply to iStock and will be reviewed on an expedited schedule if they mention their prior relationship with Veer during the application.

I received same message today. They listed 12 of my images and I got a grand total of

$16.32.

That's a very weird amount for 12 images. I wish they gave us an explanation...

iStockPhoto.com / Large version of images smaller?
« on: February 11, 2016, 11:26 »
On the two images accepted last night, I noticed that the large version of them is much smaller than everything else in the portfolio. Anyone else seeing that?

Thanks for the quick reply ShadySue ... always can depend on your good answers.

I received a notification of check issuance on October 23rd.

When does the website balance reflect that check?

Tnx gang.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: new istock forums
« on: September 28, 2015, 20:09 »
The most valuable forum for me was Critique.

I learned so much by analyzing the images uploaded for critique and then reading the comments. My image editing improved tremendously over the years, just from reading the Critique discussions.

Is there anything like that available anywhere now?

iStockPhoto.com / View ALL most recently uploaded images?
« on: June 24, 2015, 10:42 »
Is there a way to view the most recently uploaded images at istockphoto?

At the moment, when you click on Photos (top left menu), you are taken to a page just listing several popular categories.

I used to look at the day's most recently uploaded images to keep abreast of what everyone else was uploading. I found the ability to do this quite valuable.

Now that we can't specify Signature+, any new photos will likely be sold at a much lower price... why would we want to upload new photos of similar content, when the old Signature+ ones will always bring in more dinero?

They have disincentivised us to upload more.... am I understanding this wrong.... if so, please explain it to me like I'm a 1st grader.... tnx.

In the early years, I learned a lot from my rejections.... and am grateful for them.....

I think what is also disturbing are the "Similar stock photos" that appear on most image close-up pages now. I have looked at many images where the suggested Similar stock photos are so far off from the original image.

Agreed.... in most cases, this feature is not working well at all. The images usually don't resemble the original in any but a minor way.... Example: Beneath a photo titled something like "Modest Home" were "Similar stock photos" of modest women .... sheeeeeesh.

Also, these "Similar stock photos" are located above the description, which means the viewer may never see the description. Many of us cross-sell our other images which are indeed similar, often from the same shoot.

My hope is that they'll do away with this feature.

Just discovered other peoples' photos have been added to all my photo pages.... godalmighty.... !

115
And, how long has it been ..... a month... that the link has been broken?

".......... why would Getty push the file they only get %60 for, when they could get %85?"

Why are they even maintaining Exclusivity now .... what's in it for them?

I'm a bit unhappy that I'm loosing control over E+ .... I was able to boost my income by selectively moving specific images to E+ ...  Choosing exactly the right images made a difference..... I know I will always pay way more attention to my images than istock editors ever will, and honestly think my choices would be better than theirs.... Hope I'm wrong.... they're the pros after all.

"even though there upload system is crap. "

FYI, John ... Many contributors who upload a lot to istock use DeepMeta to expedite the process .... makes it a lot faster, easier ... and you can add thumbnails to other images..... helps in cross-selling....

In the very same thread quoted by ShadySue, Lobo says "There is an advantage for exclusive images in Best Match. That hasn't changed."

Software - General / Re: Nik Software
« on: May 08, 2013, 07:10 »
Thanks everyone for this great feedback... And, you're right Pinocchio... my biggest concern is getting the images accepted at istockphoto.... looks like using NIK software in moderation is the key...

By the way, I was tooling around the internet looking for more info on Nik and found the Nik Radio podcast by Scott Sheppard...  I've listened to several of these podcasts so far and have enjoyed them all..... Scott does a great job of interviewing a variety of professional photographers about their lives, their techniques, tips, tricks, and a bit about Nik software, Lightroom, Photoshop, etc...

Software - General / Nik Software
« on: May 03, 2013, 09:11 »
Does anyone here use Nik Software? And... are images processed in Nik Software even accepted on the major sites... specifically, istockphoto?

122
Thanks, ShadySue.... I should have checked the bug thread.....

iStockPhoto.com / "Latest Uploads" now links to Categories
« on: May 03, 2013, 06:43 »
I always like to take a look at the latest uploads on istockphoto.... but noticed that lately the "Latest Uploads" link on the Photos page takes you to Categories rather than latest uploads .....

Does anyone know - is this an error or are they going to make it permanent... and, if it's permanent, why would they do  this?

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Determining Metadata on Images
« on: April 27, 2013, 11:11 »
Interesting post; I'm just getting started with Light Room -- LR4.  The highlighted (bold) item might be educational and/or informative?>

Warren.... if you're just getting into Lightroom, let me recommend the English language Lightroom videos (on youtube) by Serge Ramelli. He's a successful photographer working in Paris and a master of Lightroom (as well as Photoshop and other image editing programs).

Serge uses an interesting workflow in Lightroom, concentrating initially on the sliders: Highlights, Shadows, Whites and Blacks. He feels these are the most powerful settings.... and he shows you how use them in his tutorials. After watching several of his videos, you'll get the hang of it pretty easily ... and surprise yourself with how good your photos look.

The reason I asked this originally is that I learn a lot when I'm able to see the camera settings on an image I especially like. Am able to do this through Google Plus for photographers where the metadata is often available for the images displayed there.... Was hoping to be able to do the same thing at istock... looks like I can't.

If you're interested in Google Plus for photographers, there's a good article titled "Google+ Account Setup For Photographers" .... on the home page of lightroomlab dot com.... I started by joining a few of the communities there "Digital Photo Experience", "Wide Angle Photography", "World Photographers", "Night Photography", "Canon Users", etc., etc. There are LOTS more, depending on your interests.

Also, I do NOT work for Google and have no reason to mention this except I find Google+ a great way to view images from photographers from around the world....

so, ya know.... sue me .....
