I decided to go back to Pixmac and take a gander. I found that I have had quite a few sales (according to their site), but I am not seeing them reflected on Fotolia. For example, if you go to one of my images (for example http://www.pixmac.com/picture/water-drop/000000184443), you will see that it states that I have had a total of 18 sales (on the right side of the screen where it states "Pictures sold: 12"). But that same image is reporting 18 downloads (on the upper right where it states "Downloads: 18"). At first, I thought that this number was the # of downloads from Fotolia, but after checking other files it doesn't match. If I go through each image that I have, there are a total of 120 downloads reported by Pixmac. Is anyone else having problems reconciling downloads/sales from Pixmac with sales on Fotolia?FYI: I have sent Pixmac support an email, so we will see what they say, but I was wondering if anyone else was seeing issues as well.

It looks like a part of last night's major revision was to change the default sort order (Popularity aka Best Match). It also looks like the Popularity sort order is the same as the Downloads sort order now. I'm not sure if this is by design or a bug.
This will probably cause a change in earnings for some members with earnings going up for some and earnings going down for others.

StockXpert had a major release last night and was down for a while, but the site seems to be back up now.
I tried to to login, but logging in doesn't seem to do anything.
Anyone getting into StockXpert yet?
EDIT: The login seems to be working now.

Shutterstock has "Most Popular"
iStockphoto has "Best Match"
Dreamstime has "Relevancy"
Fotolia has "Pertinence"
StockXpert has "Popularity"
They all have different names, but they are all essentially algorithms that are trying to return the most relevant results when a buyer searches for images.
Which stock site do you believe returns the most relevant results when you search for images?
And why?

The Orphan Works Act was introduced once again a few days ago. Even though this is a U.S. bill, it will affect everyone in some way. Under this bill, you won't automatically have a copyright on your images anymore. And if your images are on the Internet, then they will become "orphaned" and available for anyone to use how they please. This is especially a problem with the microstock industry, since we have no idea who is purchasing our images or where they are being used. Every image that we sell on the microstocks will essentially become "orphaned" immediately upon purchase. Every year this bill seems to get worse. We need to stand together against this bill. For more info on this bill: http://copyrightaction.com/forum/orphan-works-bills-introduced-in-usa
If you live in the U.S., you can contact your Senators and Representatives here: http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfmhttps://forms.house.gov/wyr/welcome.shtml

As many of you are aware, IS has announced that they will be offering subs. But there are the following changes to the standard subs package:
- Buyers will be purchasing an allotment of credits per day and month (and not downloads).
- Larger size images will cost more credits.
- They are offering an opt-out per portfolio OR per image.
- Submitters can possibly receive a larger royalty (depending on the number of credits allocated per day, and the number of images purchased). For example, if a buyer is allocated 10 credits per day and only buys 1 image, then the owner of that image will receive the royalties for all 10 credits.
SS has also made an announcement last month that they will be raising royalties in May.
The IS announcement will obviously affect SS (and all other agencies that offer subs packages). The question is how will this affect them and how will they react?
For example, will you guys (and gals) still keep your images on SS, since having images on SS might cannibalize IS subs sales (which will probably have higher royalties)?

I just received an email that stated the following:
"As of April 1, 2008, the Adobe Stock Photos royalty-free image service will be discontinued. We made this decision in order to focus our efforts in other areas, and we want to share this news with you and let you know how it affects you."

For those of you that shoot isolated objects, you might find these products interesting: http://www.ortery.com/products/products2.aspBasically, you put an object in their automated "light box" and you can take photos of the objects. The light box and camera are controlled via a computer in real time. Unfortunately, you can't use a dSLR with it at this time.

Here is a snippet from the DT thread: "The image details page had a face-lift. We tried to make it more organized and easier to read the information. When entering the page, the buyer would first see the image, the royalty free prices and lots of thumbs related to the initial image (for more options). He/she gets from one glimpse all the information he/she needs to quickly decide if that's the image he wants or not.
The second tab holds the prices for the extended licenses.
All the other features like image operations (add comment, add to lightbox, add to collection etc) or referral links were grouped together on the third tab: Tools.
For easier access, the tab defaults to the last used for the next image you browse within the same visit. (e.g if you leave a comment, using the tools tab, the same tab will be open by default on the next image you browse, making it easier to download, comment etc)."Here is the whole thread: http://www.dreamstime.com/thread_8749

The following comes from Achilles blog on DT: http://blog.dreamstime.com/2007/10/24/new-record-for-sr-el-license---$5100_art24784"The previous record of $4,500 for a SR-EL license was exceeded today with a $5,100 sale. The file was acquired with exclusive SR-EL rights by a chocolate producer.
The image listed on the left is for illustration purposes only. The acquired file was very similar, but it is not this file. We cannot post the original here, but I thought this info would be useful to contributors and to everyone analyzing our industry.
And just as a side note, being exclusive matters. Royalties awarded to the non exclusive photographer would be $2,550. The exclusive additional royalties for such sale add $510 more, which is not bad at all."

In the past few days I have uploaded a few images to StockXpert. As of this morning, the thumbnails are not available and states that it is "Generating image..." Is anyone else having this problem?

As you are probably aware, IS allows a buyer to purchase a print of your image (if you have it enabled).
I was wondering how many people have had prints sold.
Also, if you don't mind, it would be helpful if you could provide a link to the image that has had a print sold.

I know that most of you use Adobe Photoshop, but for those of you that can't afford it or just find it too difficult to work with, there is a new version of Corel Paint Shop Pro. Two of the new features that caught my eye are: - Watermarks - HDR (high dynamic range) You can check it out here: http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite/us/en/Product/1184951547051

The IS default sort order was Best Match for a long time.
I just noticed that the default sort order is now Downloads. Does anyone know when this changed?
