why do you say all the passwords are on theire server?
I'm using Mac and I have a folder created by the software saying it's the Prostockmarter DB
I guess passwords should be stored around here locally. Not in some server.

But If it's not the case I'll be worried.

ok
I've just tried it.
It's slow reading images on a Mac Powerbook but who cares!
It's sweet to upload to 8 sites without any trouble.

I've tested it with one image to all the sites except canstock and Istock.
Haven't been hable to upload to LO

One image to 6 sites is ok in the free version.
I'll test it with some more images and probably I'll buy the full version

Huge congrats to Leaf and to all the people who actually participate on the forum.
I guess Leaf as the main share of the credits but no forum is a real forum without quality contributors and readers.

Let's work for the 2000th topic  ;)

5 uploads are you talking about 5 images to all sites or just 1 image to 5 sites?

I always wondered this about the assignments...

Do you think it's better to choose the $25 sell the rights, or to escalate it to level 2?

Escalate to level 2 is better.
Just imagine how much one image can worth in royalties.

The one reason why I don't do those assigments is because of exclusivity. I can understand they ask for it, but hope they understand I do not like it and do not submit to those assigments.

SX is my 3rd best and it's been like this since October when I joined.
I hate theire rejections, not because they reject but mostly because the reason given is usually not good.
As a example my last submission (1 pic) was rejected because: "thanks but we have too many. After searching for this particular subject I found they don't have any as the 4 pics who show up in search results were all spamed keywords.
I've resubmitted again and got rejected again by lack of detail. This one I can accept as the file was prepared do SS and the Noise thing makes it a bit dull. Maybe I'll resubmit it again in a few days mixed in some group of pics.

Leaf is really with the reason, in some time and 2 years I guess is too much, the best seller sites will be very picky with quality control. Just wait until some of the pros from the Macros show around with huge portfolios and awesome pictures.
I guess most pros will move from Macro to Micro very fast, just give some time to people get used to the idea. Since Microstock is a really new thing and is doing very well, I believe it's just a question of time for the hobbyist loose theire space.

I use one Minolta (I don't remember the model and it's not here) but I've heard good things about the Sekonic.
I only use the Minolta because I also have one underwater housing for it, and It always go with me when I dive.

Hi

I have around 20 images at IV and never had one sold. I'll continue to upload just because is not very time consuming and hopefully in a few years I'll sell one or two  ;)
One thing I like in IV is the quality of thumbs and previews, compared to some other sites they just look great.
The images are basically the same I have in Micros priced between 20 and 30 with resizing on.

That's what I am most pi**ed about that the reviewers do not care one bit how challenging/optically impossible the things are that they are asking for.

I have a strong feeling that some of the reviewers don't know much about photography, and even less about optics. With the flood of new images, finding good reviewers must be close to impossible. Add to that the agencies' futile efforts to launch quality requirements that are stricter than the competition, or at least different from the others' requirements, and the results are bound to become somewhat original   :-\

You just said it all, I agree 100%.
Most of the reviewers (I'm just guessing but probably not far from reality) have never shoot a roll of film, at least with the intension to produce one Photography. This fact for me just tells me that they in majority must be very inexperienced and probably most of them very young. To master this kind of job, people should be experienced in both, photography and life in a more extended way.
Apart from this I believe they don't become rich doing it and after looking at a few hundred images they all start to look the same (noisy for some of them)  ;)

Thanks

Yeah, one payout by 2017 will be great for me too.
Must start thinking where to spend the $100 by 2017, maybe in a candystore if I can afford it.  ;D ;D ;D

I really don't think that things have already to start crazy.
I guess it will become harder and harder to submit those headphones smiling babes, or those "really rare" American flags or flowers.
But there is a lot of room for new images and there are some unexploited areas.
The real problem for me is when buyers start to really complain about keyword spam.

The other day I did a search i can't remember where for "water background" and guess what, the first pic i got (first line, left column) was some pretty naked girl laying on her back

I guess we can expect some hard rejections in the future but not as soon as one can think.

The markets thing will be a natural development of this business model and I guess with time more and more European and Asian clients will arrive.

I guess and hope this will be a very competitive but profitable market in the future

If you have to re-upload all the images, as I see micros working, there a big chance that you end up with quite a few of those rejected.
For some reason I guess is not likely that one already approved image have the same luck in a second submission, but who knows?

I don't use categories, but I can't see them there.

It does IPTC as they say, but it should be more some XMP standard on the final release to match PS and Bridge.

I only use bridge for developing large amounts of RAW files usually all from the same shoot.
For keywording and all the Metadata work I use Bridge only on the outputed files.

Cameras / Lenses / Re: Which Lens
« on: January 29, 2007, 13:50 »
I was about to tell you that the 50mm and the 85 could be a good starting point.
Personally I'll go for the 50 if you have any conversion factor on your camera.

At Nikon with the 1,5x conversion the 50mm f:1,4 it's the best lens one can get for the money.
I love it for portrait and people shots in general.

I can also go with the opinion to go after L glass. When I was a Canon guy (back in the last century) I used most of the Canon L lenses and they are great. So if you want nice sharp glass go for it. Sigma is good, just not as good in my opinion.

That's a shame the Beta series will end   ;)

I really like Lightroom and I will buy it, since it's so much nice the way it works.
I find it really usefull for the jobs were I need to deal with large amounts of RAW files and have them developed as fast as Its possible.

Hi,

I got two best images of the day one in December and other this month (January 2007)
It make me feel good as it is always great to see our work pointed out as good. Unfortunately I only saw 2 sells from the first one and none from the second.

So I like the best image thing if we look at it from the ego point if view.
Also, I had the privilege to see some great portfolios through this. And maybe I would never see them if there was no best image of the day.
The worst image, I never got one elected (at least they never notified me of the fact), and I really do not see the point, they always get junk and i guess most of the contributors are aware of the most common mistakes those pictures present, but maybe I'm wrong.

Ok thanks,

maybe someone want to erase this topic, since it's just me there's no need to leave it here.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: iStock increased its upload limits
« on: January 26, 2007, 05:51 »
The upload limits are fine for me. I would like if it's possible to do it based on acceptance rate, but I prefer to have upload limits then have to wait for weeks until my images are reviewed.
It's kind of the best we can get.

The good thing could be if Istock expand the inspection team. This could be the only way to send the limits away.
Not long time ago the qeue at SS was a lot longer, I don't know what have they done but ussually now I have images reviewed in the same day. And they don't need to limit uploads.
