Shutterstock.com / Re: worth signing up?
« on: January 10, 2007, 04:05 »

I joined DT last February, 2 weeks after SS, uploaded the same pictures.  Without having models in my portfolio (by choice), I earn more than 4x more at SS than at DT.

In My case I earn about 10x more in SS than DT. Maybe I'm doing something wrong in DT.
Also consider IS my best earner.

If was not the Case to be happy about it, maybe I haven't posted it to share my happiness with you and all the others around here.

And thank you for you compliment on my work!

Lighting / Re: What do you use for backing?
« on: January 05, 2007, 05:46 »
Hi,

I use background roll paper, it comes in rolls and I like the 3meters wide as it can be cut in smaller pieces for small objects and used all 3 meters wide to people shots.
It comes in a variety of colors to choose from but the "Artic White" is the must have from them.
This rolls are not so expensive so I do not complain much about throwing some away when it's get dirt.
I also use some white plastic sheets to shoot over a glass table and those allow me to use light from behind the background. very usefull for shadow free white isolations.

I had 10 files reviewed today and only one rejection for some reason that I do not remember but also do not agree!!!!

They have been on the cue for around 3 weeks. Lucky me those reviewed files came with two sales!!!

This is looking great...
The day is not over and I'm in the 11 downloads. This is a nice (really nice) day for me as I only have 70 pictures on my portfolio.   :D :D

The new prices sound really nice for now. I've had 5 sales so far today and the earnings are better.
Let's see it in the future, but for now wish all the other stocks also increment prices and %  ;D ::)

New Sites - General / Re: Question about Stockxpert
« on: December 27, 2006, 18:35 »
The only problem I've had with StockXpert is  keyword spamming.   I didn't understand why either,  as I use the same basic block of words that I use on SS and DT  whom both limit the quantity. I really don't like seeing KW Spamming myself, ticks me off.
I mailed them asking what they objected to. Most  made no sense.  For example, I have a picture of Half Dome in Yosemite.  The words half dome were shot down as spam.  ??????   I used the word  'destination'  in travel shots,  they shot it down.   As a consequence, I am fanatically careful about what I use there and frankly, I feel I am  'under-keyworded'.

Picture-wise,  my rejection rate there is low based on technical.  High on " we've got enough of that stuff'.

I had my share of that too, and after deleting some keywords that could be cause the rejection, I had a new rejection by keyword spam.

I just resumed uploading those two images. I guess i know why they are rejecting the image, but as it was a clowfish on is anemone I will not delete any keyword related to Symbiosis.
If all the other sites I work with accept that and they don't, maybe is because they are wrong.

Report it.

If there is an infringement,
If it's a pre release or not, the infringement is already done.

But no one better than the stock company to know if there is a case or not.

I don't understand why you people bother with such a loser site.  Wouldn't you rather be taking more photos that you could submit to sites that actually accept your images and make you money?
I guess you're completely right.
Image making is what we all like to do. There's no point to loose time with someone that do not want to sell our pictures. If only they sell some of my images, maybe I can think about uploading more.

Hi all

In about 1 month and a half i had the chance to see approved 24 pics with Crestock.
I had the "incredible" amount of 6 downloads

The thing is: what really makes me furious is not the amount of rejections but mostly the reasons appointed.

I don't think they are so picky as people usually say.
I find in my small experience that they have a team that do not really work in the same standards, and most of my rejections do not have an acceptable reason.
I usually find the rejections at other sites like IS or SS acceptable despite some exaggerated drama about noise over SS, but at Crestock most of the times rejections do not make sense.
I also managed to have a best of the day picture, and guess what!
This picture is an OK one but just have sold two downloads on that particular day and a couple more downloads over the other sites.
My question is - Does the best of the day pic is about pretty pictures or about good stock photography?

I'm really disappointed with Crestock and I do not have the mood to upload anymore. Just two or three pics here and there. Maybe the close account day will be sooner than later.

Hi

I always try to use as much categories as possible, at least until my mind blows with the time spent and the extra work.
I guess this is not as important as they make it dificult to insert one image, as people in general are used to search by keywords. At least the buyers I know all of them told me they use mostly keywords on the search box and not so many category search.

But people think diferently and what's true and good for a some friends of mine could be wrong to some others.
I guess if they make the process easier, it will be great for us photographers but also for the reviewers.
