General Stock Discussion / Re: An Idea, will it work?
« on: February 04, 2013, 14:35 »
FWIW, one of the most famous photo agencies in the world is a co-op, though it has been deeply dysfunctional and marred by infighting much of its existence. I read a good book about Magnum.

I do not have anything against you. I just dun see to eye for your sin in reporting good contributors with 1 or 2 minor fault. What you are committing is a very bad karma, and i believe one of these days you will feel the same as the victims you reported.  It is right to report contributors who copies exactly and have many unrightful pics from others, but not good contributors who recreate them in new expression and style.

And dun forget, the last ones who get the last laugh is the agencies themeselves, not contributors like us.
Best decision. Ignore the troll.

I am not going to respond or read your posts anymore as you can't conduct a conversation in a civilized manner. You started out by threatening false allegations and have now moved on to physical threats. I am finished with the conversation.

A bunch of losers with pathetic designing skillsets who sell themselves short for meagre cents supporting each other. You guys have no dignity. I am done with the conversation and i wished u bunch of losers good luck in the downhill microstock.

Please stop feeding the troll. He's just poking you to get a rise. I think this whole part of the thread should be moved to a "Satire" section.

Are your thinkstock sales tracked from stockxpert.com instead of istock?

Only for people who have no IS account. Since some never passed the test and had StockXpert accounts, they are paid from ThinkStock via StockXpert. Anyone who has an IS account was transfered to IS payments.

It's kind of confusing but that's the way it is and there are no payments from ThinkStock, none from Photos.com. They are both routed through one of the other two options. And people should only get paid by One or the Other, not have two accounts.

And about that photos being used, without permission, someone did try to file a suit, if she wants to join in and explain what happened, it could be of interest. I never heard the final word, just that she had a lawyer and was looking into it. Seems complicated.

I have always had an IS account, but my images made their way to TS via stockxpert and that's still how they're tracked and how I see the earnings from TS (as far as I know...) - seems like if the OP is in the same situation, it's worth a look.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Why do WE get paid commission?
« on: January 08, 2013, 14:55 »
In the fine art world, the gallery/representation generally gets 40% or 50%, so there's a long history of organizations being successful with a cut around half. Any higher and all the artists would revolt, killing the gallery.

I've only heard it as Rights Managed, never Royalty.

Selling Stock Direct / Re: CMSAccount VS Ktools
« on: December 05, 2012, 15:51 »
For what it's worth, Jeff work didn't for Ktools at the time - his wife bought the script, Jeff started tinkering with it and eventually joined Ktools as a programmer. It does sound strange without the history  ;)

This is correct - referred photographers has nothing to do with the new system. The new system is only for referred buyers.

Matt has left the company - there's a new person in that position.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Sean's Plan B?
« on: November 30, 2012, 14:56 »
Sean, this is a really interesting integration. Do you have to manually link each file on the site with it's mate on the istock site? I'm not sure how else you'd do it, but it's a great solution for IS exclusives.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Istock is hacked?
« on: November 30, 2012, 12:02 »
If this was happening through an API key, it would be shut down instantly - that's the point of a key, it's a one-off code allowing access for one user. If something goes haywire, the key is shut off and the user is locked out.

There could be some huge security hole in the API system at istock, but it should be easy to plug. But then, I can't see how this whole thing is still working, regardless of how it's done.

Selling Stock Direct / Re: Ktools 4 customisation
« on: November 07, 2012, 18:44 »
I'm hoping that as the new version (4) matures and becomes more stable, there will be a point where the updates can be installed and the template can be left alone (or require minimal tweaking). At this point, major features are being added and the templates have to change.

This is the number one reason I have not upgraded my store yet. Maybe Jeff and weigh in on this - this is what makes third party template sales impossible, and I think there's a large market for selling ktools templates.

My favorite gripe on this front is that you can't search "man" without getting all results for "woman" as well, so the gender refined search is pointless.

I don't know much about photoxpress, but I went there out of curiosity, and I saw you have there many of your photos, some of them bestsellers. I.e.:

http://www.photoxpress.com/stock-photos/people/person/men/725133

Thanks for checking that out.  It appears my understanding about what they are is mistaken.  Looks like they are another "partner" of Fotolia.  Impossible to keep up with all these partners.

There was some free site they started, I thought, but apparently PhotoXpress isn't it.

Lisa, you are actually correct - PhotoXpress is the free site they started. I don't know if is was the intent from the beginning, but as it gained more traffic, the free content went away, replaced by low cost subscription plans. It's still Fotolia's site, but now it's another model.

New Sites - General / Re: kozzi.com anybody?
« on: September 28, 2012, 11:31 »
I'm sure the 100,000 are registered users, not contributors. It's clearly a marketplace mostly for their inhouse images. I hope they are successful - seems like a big commitment to an interesting model.

141
This is why many systems don't let you update a SEO friendly title once the entry/page is created. You often need to delete the post or page and recreate it if you want a different title.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Storing Photos - Backup
« on: September 21, 2012, 12:40 »
I only use external mirrored RAID drives on my computer, so they back themselves up. I have a single drive at my office that I bring home every couple months an d backup the RAID - off site seems necessary.

Also, this looks like a cheap new online option - I signed up: http://aws.amazon.com/glacier/

Selling Stock Direct / Re: Affiliate software for your own site
« on: September 07, 2012, 17:03 »
Leaf, V4 = PhotoStore Pro, I'm pretty sure, so you have Pro.

V4/Pro is all uses the Smarty template engine, so it's easier to mess with the layout once you see how it works.

144
Do you mean the one that takes you to shutterstock for purchase? That's not free.

145
PhotoXpress IS fotolia, just another site - they moved from a free site to this model a while ago.

146
My best selling image on iStock has sold 1500+ times. Rejected by SS, FT. Sells well on DT. It's a thin DOF and not a particularly great image, but it is specific and useful.

Good for them - my hat's off to them for their efforts.

I bought a monitor with LED backlighting and it was way too bright - it dimmed okay, but the flicker (LED's can only dim by turning on or off) gave me instant headaches. The color was also impossible to get accurate. I bought an NEC IPS panel and it's been great - http://www.necdisplay.com/p/desktop%20-monitors/ea231wmi-bk?type=support

IPS panels are a bit more $$, but so much easier for me to look at for long periods. They often don't have LED backlighting.

My .02
