it's not worth repeating in this ridiculous thread which includes serial posts from two people who have nothing to do with iStock except that they've made a career out of being haters.

Les deux Tricoteuse ?!

I had 30 dls yesterday. Only 4 of them were images that had less than 500 dls. It seems to me that the buyers are so sick of the best match that they are searching for images by most dls. Obviously these images do tend to sell a lot but I don't remember ever seeing such a high percentage of my best sellers selling.

If only !
For me today is now worse than Christmas day, worse day at this time since my first month back in 2005.

Whatever the customers are seeing, wherever they are, they sure aint seeing my files today, again  :-(

I just can't fathom how two mid-week days can be like the worst weekend ever. Suddenly my portfolio is either invisible or undesirable. Given the depth of the trough I'm in, I hope someone's having a good day!

Yesterday was about 1/10th of a good day and 1/7 of a typical day and today looks about the same - truly pitiful.

Well misery loves company, and I'd say that my today looks like yours, I've had the odd bad day here and there but nothing like this sudden portfolio death syndrome, even in September 2006 when all my best sellers at the time died. Today looks like being less 20% of recent Thursdays, ie 80% down.

I hate to play devil's advocate here because I run the risk of being unpopular but I think calling the guy a lunatic is going too far.

From a certain perspective I can see where he came from. Where he came from and where he is now are too different things and he's certainly abusive and has misplaced his anger BUT...

I have posted on this very site long ago that I know a housewife who, with no photographic background, got herself a DSLR and started selling photos on iStock. If said housewife were to proclaim herself a professional photographer I could see someone getting irked by that. I don't call myself a pro photographer but I am a pro graphic designer and I went on a similar, if less defamatory, tirade against a 13 year old boy who claimed he was a professional graphic designer because he had photoshop and got paid by a guy to do a sign. It's very annoying.

Travis is not the first guy this person flamed and I think he may just be a very hard-core traditionalist who hates that many amateurs, like myself, are earning money from microstock.

He has gone way off mission by singling out guys like Travis and being so insulting but I don't think he's a lunatic.

Spend some time reading all of his posts including one where he claims to have written to an airline trying to get one of his targets of hate sacked  - he's got 'issues'.

-snip-
I wonder how many other files are being 'lost' during searches like this. In both of my cases: Highland Cattle and Grand Central Station, they're invisible on their main keyword phrase.

I have a a small herds worth of Highland Cattle missing in action too :-(

I sent them a ticket mainly because i want to SOMETHING... but i expect a standard reply about discounts being given to 'loyal customers'.

We really, really need this audit get going... i've heard around in my surroundings but there doesnt seem to be anyone who knows enough to really help out or give the right info so i cant  get it started ;(

This wouldn't be an "Extended Legal Guarantee" EL  for which the contributor gets no commission ?

I'd seemed to survive all the recent 'tweaks' relatively unscathed including the big Sunday one as Monday was well within the spread of Mondays this year so far, but after what looked like a minor change in my portfolios best match results overnight today I am only at 16% of  where I would be on an average Tuesday at this time of day.

You got called a cheerleader because you called someone else a hater.

It's this level of debate that makes this site such compelling comedy.

I am left wondering why IS pumps out something like this, which is basically a recruiting poster for new contributors, who will send  IS a ton of low quality images, which IS will spend time and  money reviewing and rejecting.  Is this what IS wants - more repititious stuff from newbies?

What's the point, for IS, of encouraging people to buy DSLRs and get into this game at this time?  Canon's motivation is obvious so maybe they're the real source of this "interview".  All that's missing is "mention IStock when purchasing your new Canon, and receive a free lens cleaning cloth", which triggers a little kickback to IS for the camera sale.

Let's look at the context. This article was in the Canon Professional Network website. I don't think it would result in tons of low quality images nor free cleaning cloths.

Until istock is sold, I have no confidence in them.

And what would change then?

Unless the purchaser is someone like Apple with coffers of cash it would most likely involve another parcel of debt to be serviced or investors clamouring for some return, out of the frying pan and straight into the fire.

What would a buyer use this to illustrate?
FWIW I thought it was a prison exercise yard!

I know Tony-Stone had one as long back as 1985 and that was back in the tranny days.

When he was going out to certain clubs at night as Tina Stone?

( Sorry but couldn't resist that one )

Interesting that your avatar seemed to be deployed one minute and gone the next.

I hope this is more than a distraction.  IS already knows all the problems with the site, issues with security, anger by nonexclusives, etc... they are written in the forums and sitemails.  I hope we learn something from this call and IS will keep the contributors in mind before making changes in the future. Maybe they have realized they need to change and that's why all this is going on now?

I think this is no more or less than trying to distract us from calling for an audit or organizing a class action lawsuit.

iStock have an idea, execute it , and it works???!!!

That's a first :-)

that's what I am thinking.

Yup, yup. They think we're f'idiots.

I like peanuts. They are delicious and contain protein.  :D

They are of course not actually a nut but a legume (like a potato) and similarly contain a lot of carbohydrate which can make you fat. Like sweetcorn (which is actually a grain not a vegetable) they are also fairly indigestable for humans which is why they tend to exit your body looking much like they went in.

Peanuts are best avoided in favour of proper nuts to be honest. A bit like the PP should be avoided in favour of proper microstock agencies.

Potatoes are tubers.

C'mon folks. We're smarter than ... "Oh look - a squirrel!"
Where? Where? I can't see it!

It's over there, next to the log with a wig on!

He with KKT in his portraits, and one purveyor of those strangely popular amongst vetta inspector vignette type face shots - trouble in paradise?

You could try using tineye to see if you can at least track down where the images are being used in such a way.

I'm also a graphic designer and I think it is impossible to make a mistake like that. When designing a website and upload files to the server, you usually check the website online to check that everything is in order.

This would appear to be a Wordpress powered content managed site, and it would be unlikely that the article was uploaded by a designer. There are numerous other articles and the ones I looked at don't seem to perpetuate this error - where humans are involved mistakes can be made without malicious intent.

Micromanaging?

More like sledgehammers wielded by the new team who've 'gone native' very quickly.

And what on earth does this mean :- "Perhaps, I'll get enough honest feedback that I will reopen the thread."

I was writing her a sitemail to ask what 'dishonest' feedback may be but didn't bother sending it as having seeen her implementation of changes to the weekly pimping thread she will obviously do what she has in mind regardless of any feedback, 'honest' or otherwise.

Must also be a French speaking duck or cow, since English is banned in France.
French ducks say 'coin coin', French cows all just laugh, AFAIK.  ;)

What a cheesy joke !

I use it now and then.
BTW I'm surprised you don't have google analytics or woopra on that page.
If you don't want to host it any longer why not donate it to here?!
