Shutterstock.com / Re: Shutterstock upload not working
« on: July 09, 2016, 21:28 »
Just uploaded 3 images this afternoon via FTP/FF.  Went straight through, edited them within minutes and four hours later they were reviewed, approved and are up on my port.

With normal uploading and indexing, you can change the default to no.  It will usually stay this way for a couple of days then change back without warning.  Several people have complained about this, but they may as well have been pissing into the wind.  You just have to keep an eye out every time you index.  Better yet, don't upload anything that will get rejected.   ::)

As for the app, I'm not familiar with that so can't help you there.

An admin posted over on the SS forum this morning that she had checked with accounting and everything was still on track for everyone to be paid by the 15th.

Did anybody get payment or we are just a small group who didnt get it yet?

Must be a small group.  I received my May payment (via PayPal) on the 7th.  Located in U.S.

I'll take back my small group comment.  Apparently this is somewhat widespread.  Several people over on the SS forum are commenting about the same thing.  Hopefully an administrator will pop in there and clarify the issue.

I've been paid as early as the 7th and as late as the 9th.  This month, with the reporting delay caused by the Turkey issue, it may go slightly longer, but no later that the 15th which is their stated drop-dead date.

Some independents may have just started out.

If that were the case, then they wouldn't have any 2012 income to compare against.

Canva / Re: CANVA Adds RF
« on: June 04, 2016, 15:40 »
So I had a sale today and under the ID of the sold file, there is some new line: ---> via "ID and link to a design with sold photo".

Is thios something new or I just haven't had it before?

Like this:

04. junij 2016    MALEiEvsbUZk
→ via MACC1Hd7XkaI

Nothing new.  That's the sale of a "template" which is something someone has made that incorporates one or more of your images.  That's one of the nice things about CANVA.  Someone can buy one of your images (and you get paid) and use it in an original composition; then, put that composition up on CANVA as a template for others to buy and use.  Whenever anyone subsequently purchases that template for their use, you get paid again for your image(s).  I had a couple last month that used three of my images for a single template.  That template was then used by others three different times and I received nine commissions for those three template purchases (3x3=9).

Edited to add the image number listed after "via" is not the finished composition, but rather the template that someone made up using your image.  Someone else then purchased that template to make up their own final composition.  Thus MALEiEvsbUZk is your original image and MACC1Hd7XkaI is the template that was made and was purchased by the end user.

anyone emailed ss yet??

I did!  ;)

Why?  They said they would take care of it on May 3 by 5pm EDST and they did.  At least my earnings have been updated as of that time today and I assume that applies to most everyone else who have been in the same situation, apart from those few who may have some unique situation, of course, which we will likely all hear about somewhere in the forums shortly.

As I noted elsewhere, relax.  All to do with the payment problems in Turkey.

Canva / CANVA Adds RF
« on: May 19, 2016, 20:14 »
Just got the following message from Lee.  35% of $10.00 looks like a winner.  And the possibility of EL's later.

"Hi Russell,
Since Canva launched weve only had one type of license available: our unique One Time Use license, which permits users to use an image in a single design.

Our users tell us that they love it. But since day one, theyve also been asking for a more typical license as well, where they can pay a bit more up front and not have to pay each time they use it.

And now were about to launch it.

Its a standard Royalty Free license, but were calling it Multi-Use. Its priced at $10 and your same 35% royalty rate applies.

Just like the One Time Use license, customers can only use it in their Canva designs, and cant download the original file.
It has gone live for a small group of users today and assuming there are no issues, well roll it out to all users over the rest of this week. You may start to see some $3.50 royalties appear in your earnings pages from today.

We expect this license will create a substantial boost to your royalty earnings. A little later in the year well also launch our Extended Licenses which we expect will do the same.

If you have any questions about this or anything else, please feel free to reply directly to this newsletter.

As always, thanks for being a Canva contributor!
Cheers,
Lee"

I don't know about any usage limits (number of times it can be used by the buyer) but it looks like a step in the right direction.

Did it have an I.D. ear tag visible?  That's typically the reason they reject livestock images.  Otherwise you just hit one of their many clueless reviewers.  Just resubmit.

Dreamstime.com / Re: DT Review time
« on: May 18, 2016, 11:32 »
I recently uploaded an image which had the usual 150+ hours ETR.  After several weeks, the site indicated it was in review.  Two days later it had completely disappeared ... not accepted, not rejected, nothing. Just gone  Anyone else seeing this?

Adobe Stock / Re: Overall ranking from 1200 to 3000
« on: May 18, 2016, 11:28 »
After months of daily sales, everything suddenly stopped 7 days ago.  No sales what-so-ever.  I checked my port and all looks OK. Nothing obviously wrong.  Anyone else seen this dramatic of a decline recently?

GLStock / Re: GL Stock Images - So what?
« on: May 12, 2016, 21:16 »
How can you tell if they close your account?  After I reached payout, I requested payment and asked to have the account closed.  I received my money but a month later had another sale.  I wrote them again saying I had previously requested my account be closed but that it was apparently still open. Never had any reply back.  I went in again today and it looks as if it's still active.

43
The handwriting was on the wall when they lowered the minimum payout from $100 to $35.  They knew full well then that earnings were going to drop drastically due to whatever changes they were putting in place and they needed to make the change to keep the lower earners mollified.  Otherwise it could be months or longer between payouts for them.  They also needed to do that to keep their accounts payable numbers at a reasonable level for accounting reasons.

Adobe Stock / Re: US Sales
« on: April 26, 2016, 12:02 »
After dragging along for a couple of weeks, over the past few days I've experienced a large increase in sales and, according to the statistics graph, this corresponds to a significant spike in US sales.  Maybe the problem has been fixed ???

Are you based in the US, or overseas?

U.S.

A slug of downloads this morning, but none show on the graph.  Is there a delay between sales and when they show up on the stats graph?  If so, any idea how long?

« on: April 25, 2016, 20:46 »
Stats Looked strange this morning.  I had a sale that showed on the map and was recorded on the monthly income page (just a record of the sale and which image it was) but the commission value was not shown and the cumulative value did not reflect anything.  Later, everything appeared correctly and it's been fine since.

Once upon a time, iStock being down felt like a major disaster.... not so much now.
Anyway, it seems to be working for me now.

Yes, there was a time when checking IS stats was important.  Definitely not the case anymore.  These days I only look about once a week or so just to see it there has been any activity.  Things seem to be back to normal this morning ... at least what passes for normal.  Some sales during the preceding week, but only subs apparently and only sporadic.  Nothing more or less than I had expected.  Continued disappointment.  :'(

Haven't been able to log in this afternoon.  Keep getting message to check my login details to be sure they are correct.  Tried both username and email address with same results.  Re-keyed in password with no success.  Anyone else having (or had) similar problem?

49
I had payments from SS, 123 and Canva successfully this month.  Nothing yet from IS, but I don't remember when they said they would send payments (account zeroed first of the month).  The PayPal site was acting screwy this morning, but finally allowed me to transfer money to my bank account.  Don't know if that has anything to do with the problems with Pond5 or not.  I never bothered to sign up with them.

This article illustrates the complexity of copyright laws both in Europe and elsewhere.  Easy to see why some agencies are skittish.  Still, it seems to me that the onus should be on the end user, not the intermediate photographer.
