123RF / Re: FTP Editorial
« on: February 03, 2016, 12:43 »
Thanks.  In the past I just submitted to the commercial folder and let the reviewer move them to editorial.  So far so good.  I just don't wish to press my luck on this method.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Agency 1099's
« on: February 03, 2016, 12:40 »
I don't know about other countries, but in the U.S., the IRS requires payers to submit a 1099 for total annual payments of $600 or more.  Several companies have opted to send 1099's for amounts smaller than this.  I received a 1099M from FT for a payout less than $600 (only joined in November of last year).  I'm not sure how foreign based companies handle this (such as Canva and Alamy), but it is your responsibility to report any income from these and other companies, whether or not you receive any documentation from them.

Veer / Re: Veer dying ?
« on: January 31, 2016, 16:20 »
I've contact veer and I have no answer neither. I had also pending files but no review for a while like no one is there anymore.
Veer did sort of ok for me (ok being about $20-50/month with about 300 images), but last week i got the email they are bought by Getty now.
I immediately contacted them to delete my portfolio asap, but so far i cant reach anyone there and don't get any response to my emails; its infuriating me at this point. I want my portfolio taken down, they just ignore me.
Anyone had any luck with this and know what it takes to have MY images taken off their site (and the partner sites i never wanted my images on in the first place)?

I sent an e-mail to them about a month ago requesting they delete all images and close my account.  Got a "boiler plate" e-mail back that they had received my request.  No other details.  I understand their T&C's indicate they have 30 days to comply with each request.  I'll wait another week to be sure I've passed the 30 day period and then check back.  As of yesterday, everything was still up and running.

123RF / FTP Editorial
« on: January 31, 2016, 12:31 »
Is there any way to upload editorial content to 123 via FTP where it goes directly into the editorial folder?  I can see an editorial folder on their server when I link in on FTP (Filezilla), and I can click on the folder and it seems to open it up.  However, when uploading everything still goes only to the commercial file.

Here's another one (from the US).

Many of these images appear to be exact duplicates.  Not just similars, but duplicates.  Many have the marijuana leaf at slightly different opacities, but many do not.  This looks like another case of zero reviews or a portfolio from an SS insider.  Pathetic!   >:(

just to offer a slightly different perspective on this debate:-
the current stock price is $28.9
a year ago it was $70
two years ago it was $99
from what I can see no dividend was paid out over the last 12 months, 2 billion dollars have been wiped off the value of the company in 24 months that's an average loss of about $83 million a month. The trend looks very bad.

Just a clarification, SS stock was never intended to pay a dividend to investors.  The sole reason for investing was anticipated stock value gain.  As the stock price rose, you could cash out for a profit or hang in there for anticipated further appreciation.  I bought in to SS stock shortly after it first became available to the public.  As it's price rose it's value to me, based on what I perceived as an unrealistic P/E ratio, became untenable. Thus I sold my interest just short of $50 per share and made a tidy short-term profit.  I then watched as the share price continued to rise to well over $100 per share and knew this was totally unsustainable.  Sure enough, it finally began to fall to a more reasonable $28+ per share.  Do I wish I had held out for the higher price before selling?  Sure.  Hindsight is always 20-20.  But my risk tolerance would not allow me take this action and in the end it proved correct.

In this light, SS' actions are focused not only on just increasing their bottom line, but inducing potential investors to bid up the price of the stock such that some of the larger investors, who bought in at higher prices, can recoup at least some of their losses and/or make a profit by selling out.  In the long term, this does not bode well for further investment and SS may have to resort to more draconian measures to achieve their internal goals ... at our expense.

I sent a request to Veer at the end of last year to delete my account and remove all images.  I received a boiler plate message back that my request had been received.  To date, nothing seems to have changed.  My account is still open and all images still up.  Is there something else I should do?

General Stock Discussion / Re: Pets need release??!!
« on: January 18, 2016, 21:06 »
It's obvious many of the responders here have never had a cat in their household.  People don't own cats.  Cats own people.  We are their minions, subject to their every whim.  If we ever want to submit a self portrait of some sort, in addition to a model release it will require a property release from the cat.  Cats were once worshiped as Gods ... they have never forgotten this.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Selling non-exlusive resale right
« on: January 06, 2016, 21:24 »
Do you get any royalty payments when they sell an image or is your original sale price all you will see?

85
Couple of sales today on CANVA.  Nothing on SS and I didn't bother checking anywhere else.  I figure any New Year's Day sales are just a bonus to the rest of the month.  Actually spent the day cleaning up my port and closing two exceptionally low performing accounts (V and GL).  Sales so slow it wasn't worth even leaving already approved images up.  Not when you only see a couple of sales a year.  At that pace it would take more than a decade to reach even minimum payout.

86
Depends also wich agency. For example Shutterstock never rejects on subject. I have a feeling that i can submit every day a photo of a dandelion flower and it will be daily accepted.

True. :)

Have they given up on their LCV rejections, which used to be lamented here?

Several years back they announced they were doing away with LCV as a rejection reason.  Many of us now believe at least some reviewers are using one of the other reasons (focus, color balance, etc.) as an excuse to reject for what they believe to be an LCV image.  That would explain at least some of the bogus rejection reasons that have been cropping up in recent years.

Shutterstock.com / Re: Shutterstock, Rex & DACS Fraud Scandal!
« on: December 20, 2015, 21:28 »
Was just checking my Alamy stats and noticed they paid me my DACS money last Thursday (12/17).  I didn't realize the form I signed last year was valid for all future years.  No problem as I'd likely sign another form.  Nice surprise.

Here's a note from Vincent posted on the SS forum:

"We are experiencing a partial site outage to both Customer & Contributor sites and access is limited.

Our tech team is working on regaining access for everyone soon.

Our apologies for the inconvenience."

Looks like it comes and goes randomly.  Hope they get it fixed shortly.

Adobe Stock / Re: Duplicate Rejection Notifications
« on: December 11, 2015, 18:15 »
Thanks for the explanation.  Now ... I do not want any image going into the free section as everything I've uploaded are all selling well elsewhere.  I looked at the site and cannot see where I can opt out of the free section.  How do I take images out of the free section (I just got a notice that some images have been moved there) and how do I prevent this from happening to future images?

Adobe Stock / Duplicate Rejection Notifications
« on: December 11, 2015, 14:26 »
Over the past couple of days I have been getting e-mail rejection notifications for images that had already been rejected several weeks ago.  As I had already received these notifications before, does anyone know why they are being sent out a second time?

91
Another possibility is that SS is positioning themselves for another sale.  They already have millions of images, so by admitting more contributors, they can claim they not only have many millions more images than their competition, but they now also have several times more contributors than all other agencies.  The combination of a gigantic portfolio and tens of thousands of contributors can appear appealing to potential buyers/investors.  Just one more supposition as what could motivate them to take this seemingly counterproductive action (to us contributors anyway).    :-\

I can't see a search option either.....

Loads of my photos - even those from ages back - are still showing as Processing. Any idea what that means?

I assumed processing In, but maybe processing Out!

Early on there was a bug in their system where a large number of images fell into a black hole titled "processing."  Even though we had continued assurances that our images would eventually be moved out of this black hole and into review status, it never happened.  In my own case, after a year of waiting I eventually disabled all my images in this category and re-submitted them.  They went through fine after that.  Whether or not that bug is still around I do not know.  I haven't had any images fall into that black hole since the early days nor have I heard of anyone else who had.

Have any of your accepted images been deleted?

I'm not sure about the term "deleted."  I've had about a dozen or so changed from accepted to soft rejection.  Like others, a few of these had even sold several times.  When this first started, I complained to Lee about it and he actually got a few re-instated.  Since then I haven't bothered as the files remaining seemed to be doing well.  At least they were up until December 1.  Couple hundred dollars each month in sales up until then.  Then on the first, the bottom fell out.  I double checked and the files are all still there.  It's just as if customers no longer see them.  Admittedly a lot of my work are Fall style images and I expected some drop as customers switched over to Spring and Summer themes, but the coincidence of strong sales daily up to and including November 30 and then virtually nothing starting December 1 is a bit too much to ignore.  They are still accepting my work and I'm trying to upload stuff that's more generic so I'll just have to wait and see if this is only a temporary drop or something more systemic and long term.  For the past couple of months they have actually been my number 1 source of income, surpassing even SS, so I'd hate to see this drop as a long term issue.

well i've finally decided to try some other agencies instead of just ss and dt, i have a port of around 1400 on both and while ss does quite well dt is almost pointless- i stopped uploading there a long time ago.

How should i expect sales to be compared to ss once is once my port is fully uploaded? is it as simple as the poll results to the right, expect about half of what i get from shutterstock?

Also how long are review times at the moment, im eager to get my first few hundred reviewed

cheers, phil

My condolences.

Veer / Re: Veer dying ?

It may not be dead just yet, but certainly in cardiac arrest.  I've had one sale there this month and that's one of the better months this year.   :'(   If I reach payout in my lifetime, I'll cash out and pull my port.

Speaking of payout, what is it these days?  It's been so long (if ever) I don't remember what to look for.

just googled dollar to euro and dollar is more than euro?? 1 dollar is .92 euro  :o

dagg i remember something like 1.5 dollar to 1 euro ratio or something close to it awhile back.

That's probably a buy quote.  Latest figure I have is 1.0633 euro to one dollar.

Canva / Re: CANVA Keywords
« on: November 16, 2015, 15:48 »
Thanks for the replies.  I was concerned as CANVA has become my best selling site (twice the dollar value of SS) and I didn't want anything to interrupt that trend.

Canva / CANVA Keywords
« on: November 16, 2015, 11:50 »
I was checking my port this morning and noticed all the keywords associated with each image were missing.  Title and description were there, but no keywords.  Sales are continuing, but without keywords I don't know how anyone can search.  Anyone else seeing this?

Photoshop Discussion / Re: PSCC and NVIDIA GeForce drivers
« on: November 07, 2015, 20:02 »
I have the same question.  All the NVIDIA upgrades that I've received seem to say they are for better game performance.  Since I don't do gaming, I've never allowed an update.  To date, so far as I know, everything still works just fine and there's no degradation in performance that I'm aware of.  Any reason I should allow an upgrade to my NVIDIA card?

As usual, opaque and confusing information from iStock. I can't tell how much I'll actually earn, ... [snip]

That's easy. No sales equal no earnings.
