Dreamstime.com / Re: Dreamstime End of the road
« on: November 26, 2015, 12:49 »
I have seen quite a few google adverts for dreamstime today.  I'm in the UK and can't remember seeing many before.  ALSO I have received an email from dreamstime in which they are promoting 50% off all images today.

So I'd say they are still working hard.

Perhaps she'll start a microstock price war, that would be great....

They are trying to raise news money as well.  Perhaps the timing is just a coincidence or maybe the bondholders demanded some fresh blood at the top?

I am not agreeing with the outcome, but I would guess it's was down to her expression.

I can see why they would do it but very frustrating. Are they going to use  stock images as a loss leader to promote/retain  CC subscriptions.

Contributors need to be respected, though, as that content doesn't magically appear for free.  Going to sit tight and hope Adobe will do just that - you never know they could increase contributor rates at some point....

Dreamstime.com / Re: Do you believe that DT is dying?
« on: August 30, 2015, 15:02 »
One data point I know, but I'm having a BME at DT.  More than double July, and more than double last August.  Year over year I'm up 40%.  No idea if September will continue the trend, but at least for me there's life in DT yet.

That's good to hear and congratulations on a ridiculously large portfolio there!

Have the recent sales been off long-time popular images or newer uploads?

There are various free apps which make the trendy filters pretty easy.

Fotolia Instant is a good mobile photo specific way to sell them.  https://en.fotolia.com/partner/201985193

Newbie Discussion / colour or black and white images
« on: August 22, 2012, 15:49 »
Hi

For my 'normal' photography I tend to prefer black and white images but have usually stuck with submitting colour images for stock.  I am starting to ask myself why?

Does anyone have any experience on acceptance rates and/or sales of B&W images?  I mainly submit to dreamstime.

thanks

Newbie Discussion / Question about the earnings poll
« on: November 07, 2010, 15:35 »
OK, please don't shout at me too loudly for this.  I am sure the answer is somewhere obvious on this site but I haven't come across it.

What exactly does the earnings rating on this site show, is it just a way of ranking or is it earnings per image per year or something?

Thanks

James

if one can't get sale on big agencies, i don't see a reason one can get sale on small agencies.
Unless they're specialists, but of course that wouldn't be micro.
FWIW, until the end of August I'd have said go straight for iStock then, if you've got time, look around if you want to try others.
But now all bets are off on the iStock front.

I can kind of understand where you are coming from but, surely it can only be a good thing to have your work for sale in as many shops as possible?  You use the same images but could potentially earn more from them, or am I missing something?

GLStock / Re: GraphicLeftovers big news
« on: November 07, 2010, 15:31 »
I agree stocktastic.  If I compare it to other smaller sites like, say, Yay it feels like a much higher quality site all round and I am sure it will become a good seller over time.

Has to be worth taking the time to build up the portfoliol.

Well done Microbius!  Great to hear about a payout, hopefully I will be able to share news of mine one day......

I would suggest you start with the smaller ones first until you get into the swing of it.  You can waste a lot of time uploading images to the big guys only for them all to get rejected!

Newbie Discussion / Hooray Front Page - progress!
« on: October 13, 2010, 17:12 »
Hi
Ok, well as regulars will know, I'm new to all this.  I just wanted to share some good news, one of the images I had accepted to Graphic Leftovers has been added to their GL Collection and appears on their front page!

I still don't have enough pictures to get a sale, but at least this gives me some hope that I am getting some things right.

This is the photo:

Hi All

This is definitely a good scheme.  I contribube to YayMicro and like the simplicity of the scheme.  My photos get very few views though, but that could just be me!  Still anything that helps the site to develop has to be a good thing.

If you haven't joined then you can see it all here:

The question I have about this is how to find potential purchasers to refer.  I can kind of think where to go to find potential contributors but really, where do I start looking for people who are going to sign up to buy?  Any ideas guys?

Have you seen the latest message they have put up for contributors? Looks as though they are capping daily uploads to 50. This is not a problem for me (I wish I had the time to take 50 photos a day!) but I guess it will be a pain for you more established guys uploaded your existing portfolios.

Newbie Discussion / How many agencies do you use?
« on: October 07, 2010, 17:36 »
Ok, so as most of you will know (and is apparent cos this is the newbies forum  :P) I am new to this.

So far, I am concentrating on building my portfolio with 5 agencies, which are spit across the top middle and bottom in the ratings here. I feel quite happy with this number and tend to be a loyal kind of person.

I am just interested in how far most of you spread your portfolios around, do you upload to every agency you can find, or just a few which you come to know and like?

Thanks

Hi all...I hope everyone had a good holiday!

@jwsc101 and @jareso - I added a section for referred users today at the bottom of the My Account page so you can see which sellers you've referred and the date they signed up. I hope this helps!

@ibogdan - We've been cleaning up our library recently due to copyright infringement issues and we are trying to weed out similar images in portfolios so the collection is more unique. That is why we have been rejecting more images than usual lately. I'm sorry you haven't sold much yet.

Also, the GL Collection is a section for images that we feel are exceptionally well done. They are hand picked by us.

Thanks very much, I've only just seen this but can now see who I referred.  It's good news as well, one of mine has added lots of photos!

General Stock Discussion / Re: Next site to go under?
« on: October 07, 2010, 16:57 »
I see that someone mentioned yaymirco.  I can kind of see why, I only have small portfolios at the moment but the views for my images have just been non-existant compared to the same portfolio on other sites.

This is a shame, I like the site. Don't really know why, I just do.

I have decided to have a go at promoting their site to buyers via their affiliate scheme (which is quite good), maybe if we all do that we can increase their sales a bit!

« on: September 25, 2010, 01:20 »
They are still accepting images with a good turnaround time (unlike 123rf and Fotolia which seem to have really slowerd down).

I sent them an email a couple of weeks ago but they haven't replied to me either.  I still like the site for the look and simplicity. It has to be worth the effort eventually.
