I think the holding company that owns Getty and Istock sees a trend in the micro stock market and is trying to extract all the profit out before dumping or putting into bankruptcy both companies. They do not care about of the photographers or other artists that may get hurt in the long run by their actions

I am to sure about the comercial viability of your photograph. The brick background makes it difficult to use.

Both the owner and the company that is hosting the website is in China, I doubt they will even look at any letter

I was waiting for someone else to state an opinion beforei said a thing. Your photogtaphs have a very limited market, only travel angencies and related businesses will use them,

I would stay far away from that site. Next thing you know your valuable images will be for sale on the streets of Beijing

Being in the computer business I have run into many people who have the impression that once they buy a piece of software they can share it with their friends and family. Nit too many people seem to able to read the terms of use and or do not care if they are pirating. The worst infractions in my opinion are people or businesses who feel this way

I have used photomatix for years and recommend it.
Photoshop is generally unrecommended for HDR.

However, HDR with external software is on the retreat, since now it can be done in camera.

The problem using in camera HDR you are accepting what the software engineer thought what was proper. We have P on most of of cameras and I doubt you use that

I am now the proud owner of 5 in 1 reflector kit that includes silver and gold. Plus some nice new portable softboxes with strobes- I am so ready next time!

Remember it is not the equipment that makes the photograph, it is the time and the thought of the photographer that makes the photograph. Before you even think of shooting at a location for a set piece visit the location at various times of the day and time year to when is the best time to proceed with the photography.

Hi MSGer's,

Here is one photo that was rejected due to poor lighting- I used natural during the golden hours while out in the field.

Any comments would be highly appreciated...

Thanks.

Tom

Not too be too nit picky, I would try for a different background The line passes through the top of her head is distracting. Right now it looks like a snap shot. As far as the lighting you can use a reflector or a large scrim to soften the suns direct light. It would have cut down the contrast a great deal. and still let you keep the shallow depth of field that you were looking for.

Personally I would have done this shot in the morning when the sun was little softer and the plants would not have the glare of the sun upon them

Well darn again..  :(

I am using Paint Shop Pro... not Photoshop.  Any other ideas, guys?

Try GIMP, its free

Even on photowalks, I carry multiple 4G cards and change them about 100 photos so I get part of the day on each one of them. Nothing worse than losing part of the day due to a bad card.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Sales Tax on Images Sold
« on: January 02, 2013, 23:17 »
In some states they have reciepts tax which have to be paid either by the store or can be passed on to the client. From hat I can see you are in a state that has a sales tax. I would ask to speak to a supervisor and tell them your situation

I think someone in the revenue delta does not understand the stock business. You are not the seller of the image to the end user and there for no sales tax would be collected.

here is the rules on copyright here int he United States.

Who ever said 1884 does not know they were talking about, the year was 1923

firing your camera up before departing the house sounds like a good tip for sure- I can see a dead battery and being in the field is not the place to find out about it. Of course we all have spare batteries right?

Personally I do not leave the house with three batteries and a car charger for each model of camera that I have. I also bring at least four memory cards. Nothing worse than going on location and have a card go bad and its 50 miles to the nearest drug store/walmart.

I have never sharpened one of my pictures, dont even know how to do it
Think it very much depends on the quality of your lenses Luis. I have to, as I still only have kit lenses.

Many of the kit lenses are as good or better quality of the lenses of yesteryear. It just takes time and some testing to find out what F/stop is at the sweet spot.

First you cannot prosecute them,  prosecution is done by a DA or equivalent law official. Next you have to show how much damage you have suffered. If it a low quality small image, your damages maybe less than the time that it is worth.

Read this website to find out to get your image removed from the website.

But if the website and the website owner is out of the country your out of luck

General Stock Discussion / Re: model releasing the deceased
« on: October 04, 2010, 21:40 »
FRom what I understand of this. The executor of the estate is the only one who can sign a model telease of someone who has died after 1923. If it was a photograph that was taken before 1923 it has now passed into the public domain.

Many images are protected by copyright, the same as textual works, for a set period of time. For information on when art images would customarily fall out of copyright and enter the public domain, visit Cornell University's Copyright Term and the Public Domain in the United States.

Art work "published" (made available for public viewing) before 1923 is generally now in the public domain. Even digital reproductions of these works (though the reproducers may claim copyright on their reproductions) can be considered in the public domain to the extent that the reproduction is true to the original and cannot claim any originality. This would be particularly true of photographs of paintings, or digital renderings thereof.

Some significant challenges arise in determining the public domain status of a work:

a) Photographs of scupture or architecture, where the photographer could claim originality in the photo itself, may still be copyrighted if the photograph was published after 1923. Library staff can provide you with more information on this. Only an attorney can offer legal advice, however.

b) Some works created prior to 1923 were never published (made available for public viewing) until recently. These could include, for example, photographs from a private collection never released to the general public prior to digitization. Further investigation with the owning institution may be needed to determine when the images were first "published" for copyright purposes.

Correction... The Olympus 24-120 is actually a 11-60 with a 2X factor due to the four thirds system's chip size..  Thanks

Actually a 2x crop factor would make it a 48-240mm. MY D90 and D300 have a crop factor of 1.5x so my 50mm comes out close to a 85mm.

Some of the Canons have a crop factor of 1.3 and 1.6 I believe so you would multiply by those factors to the lenses.
