I have one of the smallest collections and have removed myself for a while from the Network, it will take time for this to work, but everyone here is in the same boat. I would rather see a fellow symbiostock member make a sale than a sale being made at a agency.

I am asking Yay to put the link up to opt out of this program and the link to remove our accounts. I have asked once by email and it was not given. The lack of any sales and now this is the last straw for many of us

If you search for our products rather than "dmca.com review" you may have better luck.
I did and I found plenty. I also see one of your own members Anyka is using our services.

[

You actually call those reviews, I call them paid advertisements that these blogs make money my selling your product. You have removed every url from discussion boards that have criticized your company, that is obvious.

And you must not understand the stock photography too well, most of us use companies like Istock that automatically watermark our work, or Symbiostock where it again automatically watermarks our products.

Again you really do nothing that cannot be done with a form letter and a stamp.

I did and I could any reviews at all, but the lack of any negative reviews gives me pause and suggests you are using a service to bury them. And you have not told us what dept you work for.

May I ask why can't we find any reviews about your company, it seems that all of them have been buried using a service. And your sudden appearance here makes me wonder what dept you work for. Damage control?

Just another type of leech to make money off of artists, they really do notdo anything you can't do with a simple letter and a postage stamp

I now use nothing but Craigslist now or just leave it out at the curb. Most things disappear within the day

I was a member of one the freecycle groups while living  in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Most of the members were takers and 5% were givers. I finally quit, when posts looking for free.late model cars and flat screen tv's started showing up.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Do you enter Photo Contests?
« on: September 30, 2013, 21:38 »
Most large photo contests such as Outdoor magazine want full control of your photo, without any remuneration to you if they sell it to a third party. That is what facebook and other social media outlets are doing

« on: September 28, 2013, 05:36 »
Indoubt this will pass the constitutional test, if th photographer is in a public space and so is the subject these stars are fair game. As long as the photographer is not physically impeding the subject i cannot see any crime. Would I do such a job that is a big no.

Huffington post uses many images that could be considered erotic

So she signed a contract (got paid?) and now she wants out because of greener pastures? Typical. She sounds gullible, also because she thinks she can sue her way out of her own mess.

I am not a lawyer but my ( limited) understanding of Canadian contract law ( don't know about other countries) the important thing  is the being paid part of this sentence.  For the contract to be valid she has to have received something of value in exchange for the images....Is TFP equal value for a glamour shoot?

Not in the US, if compensation is not mentioned in the contract, none has to be paid. But I doubt any model would work all day without some from of payout. So prints or access to the JPEGs could be considered something of value. A model release is a form of contract too, it is also a release of your rights to allow the photographer or who ever is commissioning the photographic session to use the photographs in a commercial or editorial use.

When I used to shoot weddings, my contract stated that had the right to use their likeness in my portfolio or in advertising my services. It did state that no third party could use the photographs. The contract also stated that they did not have any photo rights or ownership of the images.

A model release is a form of contract, your contract with her supersedes any future contract. As long as your contract does not limit where and how the photos can be used she does not have any case against you. This is just basic contract law, any first year law student would be aware of this.

Software / Re: Windows ver slow when deal with files over 1g
« on: September 23, 2013, 05:54 »
I'd keep the 1g file for when you get more ram or a faster computer.  Downsize it a bit and you should find it easier to edit.  Laptops usually don't have good graphics cards and that can slow it down with big image files.  I used to use a USB stick to boost ram but I'm not sure that made any difference.

adding a usb stick to your system does not increase the system memory, it is a storage device. Most laptops do not have good graphic cards. Even the I/O system of a laptop is slower than their desktop counterparts.

If you are constantly creating PS files that are 1G and larger, I would suggest getting a good quad core
I7 or xeon workstation and put all the RAM that you can. Also get some fast 10k hard drives so you create a fast scratch disk. Do not use a external usb scratch disk if you want ultimate performance. USB cannot match the data transfer rate of of a internal sata drive. Get a graphics card with a co processor and a minimum of 1G of video memory.

Off Topic / Re: Woman sues Getty after photo appears in HIV ad
« on: September 20, 2013, 13:12 »
If Getty sold this image as a editorial photograph, they are not liable for any damages that this women may have or will suffer. The more I hear about this case and read about it, she is only going after the entities with deep pockets. Unless there is a settlements this will take years to run though the legal system

« on: September 20, 2013, 05:06 »
She is going to have to show some kind of damage. Just being humiliated is not a collectable tort. If that were true every New Yorker would beinvolved in a lawsuit. Getty has such deep pockets they could keep her in discovery and make the lawsuit to expensive for her to pursuit. I bet she is hoping that Getty will offer some kind of go away check and dismiss the case

Lets all see how this plays out before we jump to conclusions. If Getty sold this as a editorial photograph and the client or creative agency that created the ad would be responcible for any damages that the woman suffered. The attorney that is representing her maybe be seeing deep pockets in Getty.

I use the drive now for lightroom data so i want to make sure the drive won't get problem.

it should no go to any other drive

do i need some other software to fix the bad sector? you can't fix a bad sector, the os should mark the sector as bad

Many of these kind of errors also come from the small usb adapter card that is used in these external drives. ,any clients of mine had these cards completely fail and think that thier data has ben completely lost. If the drive is out of warranty and you have the space in your computer take it out and run the same test as a internal drive

General Photography Discussion / Re: Canon 7D or Nikon D5100
« on: September 13, 2013, 22:02 »
even though I am a Nikon shooter myself, the comparison of these two are not even the same ballpark. The 7D is a great camera, the 5100 is not.
