He also has to pay mortgage and feed his kids. that is not a business expense and has nothing to do with the business expense. if he pays himself a salary (as an LLC) then I am sure he gets all benefits possible...

Amazing! every time this comes up, people start to compare the whole thing to Yuri and Lise? would you compare a little high-st Mac shop to the actual Apple corporation? Lise started right in the beginning, 50% of her first two year stuff wouldnt even pass todays quality-control. Yuri has got a full fledged educated staff, studios, the lot. Yuri can afford to make mistakes but the ordianry contributor, can not. I find it a bit naive (sorry) to always compare or quote the absoloute heights of any industries. Just because it worked for them, is no guarantee at all it would work for anyone else.
Correct indeed. the comparison is futile. A good comaparison would be an exclusive turning indie (or vice versa) and comparing revenue after his portfolio is uploaded every where else.

Everyone sees the two options. I think Aeonf means that since you are likely selling the same stuff in micros, you should be always selecting 30%. If you have specific images that you sell at higher priced agencies only, then 50% would be the right choice.
And then there is obviously the "liar's" option...
I've all mine at 30%.
Exactly

Our plan is to start a seperate LLC for MS and continue to shoot-->upload-->repeat

Its not as you have a choice... You must select the 30%.

I got a used Acute2 2400w Profoto kit, yes expensive, but these are work horses and if and when I decide to upgrade to the more higher end model, the light shapers are the same. In addition they have great resale value, so one can buy them used and sell them a few years later for virtually the same price + Add to the fact that Profoto gear will most probebly out live you...

What about Profoto ?

Just to add some personal info for all of you who are burying IS: I am a silver contributor at IS, started out the year at 25% and just hit the 35% mark. I am still far away from the the gold canister (at least 6 months). I see an 8% average MONTHLY growth in income. My monthly RPI is steady at ~55c. December is a blast so far for me.

Sales via the "Vetta to Gety" port that get reported at the ~20th of every month. these nice purple bars in your income graph.

Again thanks for warm welcome and nice words, I just wanted to say "hallo". I don't represent anybody other than myself and my decision to go independent is based on my believes that it will be best for ME. I do not imply that iStock is "TITANIC", but I also hope it will not become " Nautilus" soon. My 600+ Vetta images don't sell this days. so they are just pretty pictures in some virtual twilight ( no wonder with a price tag of 500+ euros on Getty ) I am not leaving iStock, I just feel that it will be better (for me) to be represented by other agencies as well. Time will tell .... (again, this is not emotional decision or reaction, and I don't want to make any troubles to anyone here or at iStock, I came here to get some information since that is impossible on istock forums)
What about GI sales ?? You port is incredible and I would think twice before leaving exclusivity if I where you. Also if the Vetta isn't going well for you, why not remove some photos from Vetta back into the main collection ??

^^ Good point, but it would be possible to at least have correct stats for CURRENT credit prices. It means that from when IS changed (recently) the photo prices and back, the data of the script would provide inaccurate results of course.

The Livestock app for the Android platform tracks individual RC totals on each sale.
Sean: sounds like a great new script idea

I like your work. Why don't you sell on other sites as well ?

I have 15% of my portfolio (and its the oldest part of it) and for October for example it gave consisted of about 1.5% of my revenue. As an exclusive I am all for the PP.

« on: December 07, 2011, 05:22 »
Now December stats are falling behind, I can't see anything beyond the 3rd...
Same here. The RC's seem to be updated to December 3rd (including) as well.

It's a known problem, they are having trouble with the migration proccess for over a year now (yes, they are still "working on it").

« on: December 02, 2011, 03:49 »
This isn't a very good comparison statistical figure for the reason that the older your portfolio is, the higher STR it will have. For fast growing portfolios it is even less relevant.

« on: December 02, 2011, 03:24 »
Mine are still stuck at Nov 26. RC's are updated to god-knows-when.
