^^^ "only" ?
That's over 1,000$ in subs alone, not many people do much better.

I'm getting closer termination of exclusive agreement. The decision is not easy but this month could be a turning point.

The last 4 months have been a turning point for me but this one will push me over the edge.  I suspect there will be alot of crowns flushed down the drain in the next few weeks.
And I suspect that's exactly what they want.

That's exactly what they DON'T want.  if store number 1 sells a widget for 2$ and store number 2 sells the same widget for 1$ why would anybody shop at store number 1?
further more if the widget manufacturer makes a 30%-50% margin in stores 2,3 and 4 instead of 15%-20% in store 1, who do you think is he more likely to encourage buyers to go to ?

Join the club.
The less downloads the less you have to lose.

^^^ sure will.
Will open a thread once it is relevant, I am sure many others considering this move will find the information useful.

Good luck Cobalt!
We have 3 more weeks to go.
Very excited as well!

You too? Could have sworn you were always telling us how fantastic exclusivity with Istock was.

Looks to me that the predicted mass-exodus from exclusivity is now well underway. I wonder if Istock will try and sweeten the terms or take any other action in an attempt to stem the flow?

The magic word here is "was".
I was exclusive as long as it made financial sense and always thought it's a good idea choosing to be exclusive or not based on numbers and not emotions.  The people running IS don't have much common sense IMO so numbers are going down.
I still think that for people that are making over 35% of their income from IS, exclusivity makes sense.
I personally think (or hope) I can make more as an indy.  Time will tell.

I can also tell you that I met with one of the big 4 agencies and they claimed that in recent weeks they have been contacted with dozens of exclusives looking to become indy.

Stocksy / Re: Stocksy - Are You Curious? Response?

As I understand it, that is exactly the approach stocksy is taking. Image exclusivity, but not artist.

Is this confirmed? Or are we just speculating...

Confirmed.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Prices vs volume - John Lund
« on: February 23, 2013, 19:30 »
never understood the race to the bottom with microstock, especially the subscription sites. i too got caught in that snafu over at getty, the results were the same, selling for real prices earned much more.

Again, not everybody have this option. Getty is a closed club for new comers. MS is not.

I've been independent for 5 days, initially found it a bit of a shock to get such low royalties per download, IS downloads averaging $1 I think the first few months will be hard financial

What was your RPD while exclusive ? what about the number of downloads?  although 5 days is hardly enough time to tell.

60
I am sure it will help many people who are also considering dropping the crown (I am one of them and there are many more) if you can share any financial information with us as your portfolio grows at the rest of the MS sites.

And best of luck in your indy future!!

Irrelevant to 99 of MS contributors since we can not join the RM/RF Getty closed club.
I would LOVE moving my entire port to macro instead of micro but that isn't an option, is it ?

I think everyone who is accepted get to invite up to 5 other people, this people need to pass inspection/curation before they get accepted.
They are NOT looking for regular stock photos. they are looking for "Vetta" and "Agency" type only, more or less.
Artsy photos also work.

Their are still sales being reported for me so I guess the PP payout isn't over.

OMG.

They have lost their mind.
We will be handing in our 30 day notice and giving up the crown ASAP.

65
Horrible month.
down 18% from 12/12
down 41% from 01/12
Port over 5,000 photos
port grew 50% in the last year.
:(

All stats before PP and GI.

Same here.
Exclusivity seems unsustainable.

Taking down at least 22 including a few Vetta's.

68
I have had bad experience whith them. The quality of the work was useless.

69
How much do you guys price your pictures for sale ?

70
I have a question. Do exclusives get to vote too? If so that would mess up the poll results I would think.

Exclusive votes are kept separate.  I plan on displaying them a separate way in the future.
Here's where you vote by the way http://www.microstockgroup.com/index.php?page=microstockmonthlysurvey

That could be very good info for us exclusives.
Looking forward for it!

Has anyone found a more efficent way of uploading photos to FAA besides the "5 uploads at a time" ?

Off Topic / Re: The Value of Photos when Somebody Dies
« on: January 07, 2013, 10:58 »
I can relate.
I had my grandfather and his wife pose for us a large sum of business photos and portraits for IS using the canon mark II, my mother and I are very pleased indeed to have these photos in such high quality as he passed away recently.

General Stock Discussion / Re: December 2012 Stats Thread
« on: January 02, 2013, 05:47 »
A bit better then expected for us but still a bad month.
1,520$
From 11/12 down 19%
From 12/11 down 19%
Port grew 45%

PP+GI should bring in another ~100$

75
Those numbers may have been true before IS had started going south big time.
We are at ~25K for over 5K images and our photos don't suck that much :)

You are looking at the average over how many months or years ?

If you try to figure this on a month by month basis this would make no statistical sense. In that context any recent down should be statistically insignificant in terms of the average (although you obviously need to keep a gimlet eye on the trend). Unless you have been completely wiped out which seems unlikely.

I think you need to be looking at the average calculated over say the past 24 month period.

From earlier posts I think aeonf is a relatively recent contributor who has been uploading heavily since they started. I reckon you only start to get anything like a meaningful 'average' once you hit the wall, usually after 5-6 years. Until you hit that point your numbers tend to be growing strongly each month-on-year and therefore earlier data becomes out-dated before it becomes useful (in terms of determining an 'average').

Your thinking is correct, as you said it is hard to give such an average when over 150 images are added every month.
we have had over 5K images for over 3 months with an average monthly income of 1,850$
very far from the numbers being thrown here.
It does seem we hit some invisible "wall" but it also seems IS's performance is to blame and not our owns.
Up untill May/June everything was looking great.
