iStockPhoto.com / Re: only 20% on Istock?
« on: February 10, 2008, 10:33 »
IS is consistantly my best site with sales and earnings even at the low royalty. i find the weekly upload limit a pain as well.

127
Bigstock does ok for me, I like the low payout as well. The site is an easy upload with ok returns.

128
I think there is only growth potential with the major players, I think micro has not tapped into some markets as deeply as they could, Asia in paricular stands out.

It not doing well for me either, two sales in three months.

Since I started this thread and I am $3.00 from a canstock payout feel free to download a few of mine if you're closing out your account.

What this thread has done is highlight the need for stock sites to understand their markets. Is the site a photograhper site or a designer site. So far I think Istock is the only site that plays both sides of the street well.

I really like this site and hope that it will bring in Eurp buyers. The return for photographers is great and I hope to see a sales there soon.

I have been reading the post about those sites with the most potential. I'd like to take an opposite tack. Which sites will NOT be with us at the end of the year? Who will join sites such as USPHOTO and others as a bombs?

Yet another reason not to go exclusive.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Canstock - is it worth it?
« on: January 21, 2008, 12:02 »
I've been there from the start and I hate to bail on the site. I'm just not sure why it hasn't grown like some others. I'll keep uploading there for the near future.

SnapVillage.com / Re: Snap Village - How do you see it?
« on: January 21, 2008, 12:00 »
Not sure about this site:

No FTP
Buggy at times
Five photo upload limit
No sales to date

I'll keep uploading but I don't have a lot of hope here.

Bigstock is OK, with ocassional payouts. Not slow enough to quit spending time there.

Mostphotos.com / Re: voting system reaching annoying point
« on: January 19, 2008, 13:39 »
I like the self inspecting aspect of MP. I find myself being more selective, with some other sites it's a bit of a game to see if a photo will get through. I don't like the voting system though.

123RF / Re: Is uploading to 123rf worth the effort?

Does the ease of use justify poor sales. With about 200 pics very sparse sales.

« on: January 14, 2008, 21:06 »
I like a lot of others really like the site and the review process is the best around but sales have just not been there. Iam not sure why. I am a part timer at this with the average portfolio between 150-and 250 on most sites. I will keep uploading but because it is easy but I have little hopes for sales.

Thank for the googlepages info, it took me 15 minutes to set up a page. With cut and paste icons from my stock sites it could not have been easier! the lin is http://northwoodsphoto.googlepages.com/northwoodsphoto I'll beef it up later.

I am looking creating a web site to link to my portfolio and help build traffice. Is there a free web hosting (I'm cheap) service out there that anybody would recommend?

I've been there for a few months and slow sales but since I use prostock master to bulk upload photos there isnt any to keep me from uploading.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: 8 days without sales

Istock is my best seller and December has been solid, especially when you factor in the holiday. Dreamstime is a tough site for me. High rejection rate limited sales.

General - Top Sites / Re: "Personalities" of the Big 5 (or 6)
« on: December 28, 2007, 07:50 »
For each site is a little different:

ISTOCK: I do very little editing of the photo, the don't like noise. For me they are more likely to take a nature pic. I have more luck with flower pics here than any of the other big sites.

Dreamstime: I like this site but I have a tougher time here than anywhere. The don't like batches of the same photo uploaded together. They are tough on nature and flower pics. Every once and a while they will surprise me and take something that I am betting would get rejected. I also have more extended licence sales here.

123RF: This site has a higher acceptance rate than any of the other big ones I upload to, the down side is my sales there are below the others.

Fotalia: This site is a tough read, an OK rejection rate but sometimes there are odd reasons for rejections.

Of the smaller sites:

Lucky Oliver: I love the review process here, feedback is useful and generally on the mark.

Bigstock: Bigstock will take photo's in most catagories without too much trouble and ok sales.

Canstock: I like this site, the uploading is easy and they take more of my stuff than any other site. Someday I hope sales pick-up.

I would recommend getting some softeware like pro photo master- to help with bulk processing and uploading. Bottom line is upload anything you want (of good quality) to the sites and don't worry about rejection rates!

D300 is due out in Nov with a list price of about $1700, a much better deal on a great camera.
