Cameras / Lenses / Re: On a $1200 Budget, what would you get?
« on: October 01, 2007, 19:19 »
Go to a good dealer and looked for a used D200 kit. KEH out of atlanta is good. Or go new and get the Rebel XTi with good glass.

SnapVillage.com / What's next

Snap village has been responsive to critics and made some changes to its operations; ie watermarks and itpc data. My question is when do they shed beta and go live. When they do what will they do for contributors and how will they generate customers? With all of the competition how will they standout?

The upload procedures here are awful! I don't mind the five at a time loader, but it has to work. Most times it does not work. I have about 100 pics there but could have 300 if it worked. I understand it is BETA but its time to fix this. A company as large as Corbis should be ashamed to have their name on this. I will continue to upload small amounts but they need to get better.

my problem isn't rejection, that happens so often I am use to it. Instead I'm getting sales on new uploads, the older stuff sells ok (from my point of view).

Canstock wil accept them.

General Stock Discussion / Best of the up and coming?

Many of us contribute to the up and coming sites. Which would rate as the best one and one that has potential to bump one of teh big six?

Do you think that Corbis entering the game help prompt this? I am a huge Istock fan and have been there about four years. I also a small player with 200+ pics and about 600 downloads I want see how this shakes out before I stop uploading to other sites.

Micro keeps me in photo equipment only, its not really any part of my income since I have had only two payouts. This is strickly fun.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Are you serious?
« on: July 19, 2007, 11:48 »
I would classify myself as a serious hobbyist. I have some where between 80-400 pics dependeing on the site (five sites) but I don't have huge sales. I do this because it is fun and since I've been doing this for about 4 years I suspect that I am not getting bored at it. It will not pay the bills but it does keep me in new gear.

I agree that a small percentage of people are driving the majority of sales at most sites and that talent is the key to success. What micro has done is give the amatuer a foot in the door. I truely believe pros dislike micro because it allow anyone to be part of the "club".

I deal with two (well three now with snapvillage) of the up an comings and both have fairly easy uploads. One, canstock, I've been with almost since they went live so I feel somewhat attached and keep hoping for the breakout there.

SnapVillage.com / Re: Microstock or Midstock?
« on: July 15, 2007, 09:21 »
I like the option to choose prices. I love nature pics but I know everyone has flower pics so I tend to price them low while other nature pics I'll set higher.

I have found the upload process frustrating as it doesn't work about half the time.

My question: Is this a new big player or just another up and coming?

I got to say that I have enjoyed looking at the new photo's on the CN tab. I usually go the tab for new photos for cn members. There is some great work coming through.

171
I have over 300 pics there (more than any other site) and sales are slow. I have been there almost from the start so I'll stay with it.

I must say that I really enjoy this site. It is a great place for people from all of the sites to share info. It is also great that you can discuss issues with the dreaded hammer coming down and locking threads. I am also impressed with the growth of this site over the last several months.
