I cant get into the forum either.
I still cant get my shopping cart to work the right way.
The customer doesn't get a E-mail after the purchase and the photos take a long time
to show up in the cart if at all. I tried all the suggestions people gave but didn't work.
I'm on bluehost.
Symbiostock is to complicated and not very intuitive.(especially for boneheads like me)
Loosing patience with the whole thing.
I just want something that works, without all the messing around it takes to get it to work.
I will try the upgrade.

Everyone had  to request a new password via the automated system after the change over to the new format so give that a try. I'm on Bluehost and just had my first sale and it went through with no issues. If you post again over on the Sys. Site you might find some new help that can resolve the problem.

When you're an iS exclusive and you ardently defend their every move while trashing their competitor and you suddenly realize your payouts are no longer enough to pay your internet bill, your connection is terminated and you can't post on MSG anymore.

I like the look of the image gallery much better, but I prefer the organization possibilities - plus the link to my website - from my portfolio page. In particular the ability to make sets in whatever groupings make sense to me to give an overview of what's in my portfolio.

It's a bit confusing to have both and a shame that the one with fewer options looks better than the one with more! Let's hope they do something to consolidate these two overviews of a contributor

I'm not seeing the "sets" tab on my portfolio page anymore.  Jo Ann, are you still seeing that option or just referring to the when it was available?

so not that I want to drag you all off the topic of Lobo - but going back to the original post - has anyone read anything more about the "Irregularity" issue?  I briefly looked around the IS forums but didn't really see anything or the original post.

I know.. I probably could have spent more than 5 minutes poking around there but that was my limit before I really just wanted to get out of there.

The thread is somewhat hidden in the Partner Program forum.  There are probably lots of people over there that have no idea what could be coming.  Lobo posted that there will be an update later this week but it won't be Tuesday.  http://www.istockphoto.com/forum_messages.php?threadid=358476&messageid=6973868

I'd be wiling to bet that they will "fix" this and claw back funds before they they fix the RC levels that were not grandfathered at last year's levels.

Selling Stock Direct / Re: Is Bluehost down again?

YEah, mine too, what else is new. I will be looking for other hosting next year. BH are quite bad to be honest. Slow site, and many crashes. Still havent figured out why BH was suggested as the best host for SYmbiostock. Apparently because they were cheap, which is not always the best argument.

I wonder if they are just not managing some rapid growth too well.  I signed up with them for another project a few years ago based on a friend's recommendation.  She had run a couple of sites for over 5 years and she said she hadn't experienced any problems whereas her previous host had been a nightmare.  I really don't want to deal with moving my site so I hope they clean up their act real fast.

The problem I've run into with keyword phrasing is on the sites that let you narrow down your search by adding additional keywords.  If you have "Shrimp Cocktail" the image shows up for the phrase, but if the searcher starts with "Shrimp" and decides to narrow it down by adding "Cocktail" your image doesn't show up unless you have the individual words in your list too.  When the search words are added individually they don't pull up the phrase.  The downside is that your Shrimp Cocktail image then shows up in searches for Cocktails.

Merry Christmas to everyone!

Hi Lucato;  your problem seems pretty complex and refers to files I have not seen mentioned before. You had previously asked about other languages and mentioned plugins (I think). Is this relating to plugins to convert the language?  It sounds like something that requires advanced programming knowledge. Unfortunately I don't have that. Maybe after Christmas there will be more people online that can help.

Stupid for who? - the longer they keep our money the better for IStock

It would not surprise me one bit to learn that the delay was intentional so they would not have to make as many payouts at the end of the year.
They've still got eight days to go, and they've paid out Getty for last month.

Eight days to go in December, but Monday the 23rd is the cut-off date for Payment on the 30th through PayPal.  If you needed the November PP amounts to hit your account by the Monday deadline in order to have enough to request payout you're pretty much out of luck if you wanted the money in 2013  The next payouts will be in 2014.

One thing  they told me was that the images can not be unincorporated from the Facebook platform, this will be managed by Facebook. Whatever that means, but it sounds like the images are locked in.

And you keep on getting paid by Shutterstock for these usages ?

So does that mean that a Shutterstocker opted in to the FB deal can never go exclusive at iStock ?

2 more reasons why this 'deal' stinks.

I think this means the advertiser cannot utilize the image other than in their FB ad in that it cannot be unincorporated from that ad by the advertiser or FB for other uses, not that they have a private library of our images that we no longer control.

Scott - is this correct?  Please confirm that you're not giving FB unlimited future uses of our images for the single fee.

Maybe I'm understanding this wrong and someone from SS will chime in to clarify, but this is how I'm understanding it:

FB has a special subscription deal with SS which they extend only to those buying ads on FB.
FB advertisers can select any SS image to use ONLY in the FB ad - it gets inserted directly into the ad.  They don't pay a fee, it's part of the cost of their advertising fee to FB and they don't get a copy of the image to use in any other way.
When it is inserted into a FB ad, the artist gets paid, same as any other subscription DL.
If the same image is selected by 100 different advertisers and is used in 100 different FB ads the artist gets paid for 100 downloads.
If the artist decides they want to go exclusive with iS or any other agency they remove their images from SS.  They are no longer available for use in future FB ads.
Any downloads that predate the exclusivity agreement would not affect the exclusivity, you just can't keep offering them elsewhere.  That's the situation as it stands now when you have images on other micros and want to deactivate them.
It seemed pretty clear that SS is just offering FB advertisers the ability to select and use an image in their library. They are not giving away any images to FB.

As I said, maybe someone from SS can chime in to clarify if this is right or not but it seems like it's a "pay for use each time" situation, not a pay-once and give away to millions like the Google Drive debacle.

Well this is quite shocking to be honest.

I asked Shutterstock in what size they are selling my images on Facebook. I was told they dont know and that I had to contact Facebook about it. And everyone who ever tried to contact Facebook knows that is sheer impossible.

One thing  they told me was that the images can not be unincorporated from the Facebook platform, this will be managed by Facebook. Whatever that means, but it sounds like the images are locked in.

I have asked again what size the images are sold, because I cant believe Shutterstock doesnt know this.

The part in bold seems to be the big difference between this FB deal and the Google Drive deal.  It seems like this lets the advertiser purchase and insert the image into one advertising campaign but it's just an insert from SS to the FB ad module, they don't get a copy downloaded to their hard drive.

In the Google Drive debacle anyone and everyone could download as many pictures as they wanted from Google Drive without any fees and could use it anywhere.  From the end-user perception they were free images and from the artist's side it was giving away the farm for an insulting amount of money.

The SS deal pays for each use, same as if they had purchased direct, but they advertiser does not get a copy.  Of course if they are large images they can always turn around and grab it off the web, but they could do that from any image posted on the web so I don't see where the SS is facilitating anything different in that sense.  It doesn't make it more available for stealing than any other web use.

Jo Ann,

I got a little lost at this part -

4. Google+ Profile link to author page  While editing your profile, go to the Links section and add your Symbiostock author page URL as a place you are a contributor to.

I didn't even know there was a Symbiostock Author page. I have filled out all of my author settings, but I haven't seen instructions for setting up an author page. What am I missing?

I've just spent the last half hour searching to figure out how to edit or customize the page and finally found it.  It's an auto-generated page with the Symbiostock info but if you go to the Widgets area you'll see two areas on the right that let you add widgets and info to the right side bar and below the content.

I don't know if anyone else is seeing it but when I went to view the video I got a pop-up ad along the bottom.... for OFFSET stock images.  Sweet irony  ;D

Mine is still messed up.  Set back to a Level 1 contributor and it's recalculated all my previous earnings based on that too.  I was one penny from payout and now it's over $5.00 short but only $1.43 short for earnings for October.

144
That is a Wordpress setting, not a Symbiostock setting.  If you are in your Wordpress Dashboard on the left side is a section titled SETTINGS and when you click on it several options pop out to the side.  The first one is GENERAL and that's the one you want.  About halfway down the page is a check box next to the "anyone can register" phrase.  Be sure to save your settings via the button at the bottom to save your changes.

Hi leo,

do you mean we should discuss symbistock on other forum instead here?

i am able to find where to put the paypal info, but there is no way we can get it done by basic paypal account?

I will prefer to deal with only basic paypal account.

what is the reason we need a professional level account? ( i guess we have to pay for it?)

by the way, can i test the purchase by my own paypal?(buyer and seller same address)

The www.Symbiostock.org site is the best place to find recent discussion topics relating to setting up your site and troubleshooting if you're running into anything where you need some assistance.  I think that most of us who are on Symbiostock are trying to keep the tech help and set up discussions over there.

A quick answer to your question though is that you can probably get by with a personal premium account on Paypal as several people are successfully using that.  I don't think they will let you test purchase from your own account.

Perhaps I should change my symbiostock site to "Cheap John's Stock Photos"? :) (The domain name is available!)

LOL - great idea!
