Quick search on debt-to-EBITDA leads here:

http://www.readyratios.com/reference/debt/debt_ebitda_ratio.html

"Ratios higher than 4 or 5 usually set off alarms because they indicate that a company is likely to face difficulties in handling its debt burden, and thus is less likely to be able to raise additional loans required to grow and expand the business."

What is TS image pack? Does that mean TS royalties aren't going up across the board? Yeah it figures... typical iStock

I hope the tea company appeals the ruling as it's blatantly wrong (and the judge in his comments got as close as he could to admitting his incompetence in the matter). The concept has clearly been copied, but not the expression. It matters not one iota that the two parties had a deal previously.

Who is in charge of istock? Who is the captain on the bridge?

Judging by the way sales have been leaking it might as well be Francesco Schettino.

We'll know for sure when the stories of falling into the lifeboat start to surface :)

And so who plays the part of the infuriated Italian coast guard official telling that world-class-sleazeball to get the eff back on the ship?!

Now, now, guys and girls, don't be morons! For people with feelers out for corporate shenanigans, you're far too quick to concur in the condemnation of a "useful idiot". If you had bothered to calculate the number of days, months and years between the sinking of the Titanic and the Italian tragedy, you'd be far less certain it was an accident. Take more care!

^^^ More management-speak fluff. Did anyone learn anything from it (apart from "Everything's going to be great!")?

They decided to replace a charismatic leader, an iStock mascot, with a committee. Great decision! :D

I think we can all agree that JJ and Kelly leaving does not bode well for any iStock exclusive. I don't know about the rest of you exclusives, but holy sh*t...what now?

Erm ... that's a really tricky one ... let me think about it for a nano-second or two and see if I can come up with any solutions.

LOL... you two should just go and get married! :D

Yes. It's rather poignant.

Not really. Kelly won't need money to make him happy.

Looks like the camera I've been waiting for. However, I follow enenews.com and I'm very conscious of the effects of Fukushima. I would love to know whether this model will be made in Japan, and if so, how radioactive they are. I'm actually serious.

Would you like to purchase credits that can be used at getty, jupiter, thinkstock, istock et all getty companies
Would you like all searches displayed from (all the getty companies)

So much for the argument that Thinkstock is a different market. I hope that fans of Thinkstock and the Partner Program in general (they know who they are) enjoy seeing their naivety laid bare.

Icefront, your work is fine. Except for the first image in the batch you linked to, figurine holding solar panel, there seemed to be a problem with the hands. Your pictures should have got through and would have sold well. At least on the 'strong concept' premise. But the inspectors are quite robotic and will reject as soon as they see a figurine with a ball head. It's ironic that they are asking for more developed figurines, which experience teaches do not sell as well as the simplest ones. Better luck with the other sites.

On a personal level, I'm positive that JJRD is an ethically-minded individual. But you must bear in mind he is also a deconstructionist piss artist of the most superior order, someone who perceives the making of money from the labours of others as an art form. Marrying his persona with his job, he is consistent in warning us before the bombshell. This is now his third or fourth warning about the new inspections coming up. All he's really saying is "Tie up your loose ends, upload now as much as you can. Later you may not be so pleased with how your files are accepted." It's not as if he has any power in this. He's merely doing the best he can.

I'm thinking this can only be bad for all of us

Why so? Yuri's is a numbers game, formulaic and repetitive. He can increase his output astronomically, and it won't be much of a threat to anyone focused on creativity.

It's also anything but guaranteed this initiative will run its course. He's basically saying he wants 10-15 new interns for 3 years - a tall order. I wonder what the drop out rate will be out of this non-accredited 'school'. Not that it will matter much I guess. He most likely keeps the copyright, people can drop out when they like.

The only mystery left to Yuri is how he doesn't go mad, churning out the same over and over. I guess the money keeps him sane! :-D

General Stock Discussion / Re: Masterfile ? whats that?

they have been bought for 21,4 million dollars by Arius3D Corp just a couple of weeks ago.

How bizarre...

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Arius3D-Acquire-Masterfile-iw-2266843772.html?x=0

A loss making company is raising funds to buy another whose revenues have fallen by a fifth. Because they believe people don't want static 2D content anymore, they want interactive 3D content? Hmm... is anyone here buying that? I find it more interesting that the mysterious Financing Partner involved is seeking distribution services from Masterfile. To distribute what, toasters? Wholly owned ones? ;-)

I'm exclusive and opted out of PP so I was thinking more in terms of the 'upstream' mirroring/moving.

If they move or mirror my files elsewhere I'm going to ask them not to do that, or else I delete the file. If bestsellers are involved, then we'll quickly get to a situation where it's best to close the account. I think iStock and Spagetty Images are playing with fire - their loss will be greater than mine. Let's just wait and see what the new file handling actually entails.

« on: August 31, 2011, 03:30 »
One question I haven't seen asked or answered:

When the time comes and they do start to mirror/move files, will we retain the right to delete them? I imagine that the new file handling procedure JJRD talked about will bring a change in this regard, tying up our mirrored/moved files for 6-24 months before we're able to delete them.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Revised Artists Supply Agreement

The worst part of this bad announcement is the international distributors none of us can opt out of. They sell for a pittance and we'll likely get 10% of that. If they sell at all - they're an open invitation to theft.

The Sub-Saharan example they quoted is a red herring. Most sales will come from places like Germany, Russia, Eastern Europe. In those sorts of places the buyers are stoic enough to insist on supporting their local agencies, and careless enough to buy content coming from Spagetty Images through them.

Spagetty Images = Titanic.

Gray suit to lowly intern: "So here's the new batch of the responses to go through. The interface is a little buggy but as you can see in the column on the left these are your keywords to search for. The main one of course is 'professional', then there's 'communication', etc. That's what we're focusing on, we need to get rid of rogermexico. He's Mr. Casual and that won't cut it any more with the kind of news we have in the pipeline. He's got to go but we need the data to back us up, so find it. Good luck, you'll do swell. Oh, and if you finish by 4pm, you get a really cool rubber duck as a memento. Bitter used to play with it in the corporate bathroom. Just imagine!"

I ain't filling out no stinkin survey!

« on: August 19, 2011, 07:21 »
Is anyone else seeing a delay in sales being reported?

I just came back to see two additional sales from yesterday that weren't here a couple of hours ago. Still an awful day if that's all there was, but I'm starting to think there is a problem with the way sales are currently being reported at iStock, more so than a change with the best match.

Something is definitely screwy.

I'm starting to keep written tabs on my figures because simply remembering them from one logon to the next doesn't work anymore... I've had too many days when things were out of whack. There does seem to be a delay too.

...Reducing the Istock library over the coming months will help control best match and better define any tweeks.....

I have a sickening feeling you're not talking out of your arse on this one. No point asking where the info is coming from as you would probably say "The Pixies told me".

Are there any other exclusives here seeing an 80% drop in daily income from their summertime average? Incredible really, this is the worst I've seen on iStock.

I can't shake off the feeling this is deliberate, preparing the ground for an "exciting" announcement next month.

« on: July 19, 2011, 08:36 »
Actually I would prefer that inadequate forum behaviour was dealt by Leaf, as he is the one who can define borderlines, ultimately leading to a temporary or definitive ban. Maybe we should use the "report" button more often?

I'm someone who's recently been put off from reading these forums, but I'm not in favour of bans or thread locking or other such moderator measures. You need to allow people to be morons to have freedom of discussion. What I would like to see is more sensible rules at signup, as for example not allowing a new member to pick the name of an entire country or nationality as their user name (or otherwise picking an inappropriate name).

You can probably tell I only have an issue with one poster on these forums, the rest of you are all right. My problem is that I tend to sign in only when I post, so I can't ignore the cretin.

« on: June 24, 2011, 04:28 »
I think you're assuming that excluding Vetta and agency is the only thing buyers would want to do - I'm sure some would also use it the other way - to search only Vetta, Agency and E+.

I think the price conscious buyers that will use the slider will want to find the cheapest files they can use, and fast. Those who are in the market for V&A have no motive to use the slider at all.

It's fairly obvious the slider is too fine grained and deprecates E+.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: New price filter
« on: June 24, 2011, 01:12 »
For my own sake if for no other I wish this feature well, but I have doubts.

- It doesn't reduce complexity of operating a search at iStock and I doubt it's enough to attract those who have left for other, simpler sites.
- If you move the slider up from the minimum, more vectors appear. If you're looking for photos as most buyers are, this gives the impression of spoiling the search and reducing the incentive to see E+ files.
- moving the slider up and then looking at the results, it can be difficult to discern what's included in the results that wasn't there before.

A simple tickbox to toggle display of Vetta/Agency would have been simpler and wouldn't have jeopardised E+ sales and potentially vector sales.

With the slider, people will now be asking for display tiers per collection, to make better sense of the results. In other words, the slider has to evolve into a search-by-collection. And I'm not looking forward to that.
