Yes Achilles mentioned in the DT forum that there is a problem and that it should be fixed tomorrow.

All the best with your move! Let us know how it goes  :)

Pantehrmedia is not that recent, they are pretty established in Germany. It was actually my first stock agency I submited to in 2005. But they went international less then 2 years ago.

General Stock Discussion / Linking of Image Collections
« on: May 15, 2009, 06:50 »
All this talk about a our own microstock agency gave me an idea. Since I know quite a few users have a place where they sell and market their images on their own, why not link to each others image collections?

This is one of the easiest way of helping each other out without much effort and costs.

The way I envisioned it and already started it:

Submit a link with a specialized collection of images and I will put it on my website on this page:
http://www.penguinphotos.net/gallery/8214963_BPrh7/

as I already did with Christian Wheatley's collections.

Now I can put up your link anyway, even if I do not get linked back, but if each one of us who gets linked has a Collection page as well, it should be of benefit for us all.

So what I am looking for to link from my website are specialized good quality collections. At least 5 or 6 minimum images in a collection.
The collection should be from a site where you market and sell on your own.

Ideally it would be, that buyers can search by alphabetical order for collections they are interested in.

Thoughts suggestions and links are welcome :-)

One more pro:

They have at least one very nice customer service person. Talked a few times to her.

One more con:

Images can take up to 3 month to be taken of the site, because Panthermedia has so many distributors

156
Pros: - you can make a lot more with one sale than on the micros
-you are paid in Euros
- they even offer banktransfer
- you can already request payout when you reach 30 Euro

Cons:
 -not as many sales
- 30% royalty when you offer images at cheaper agencies
- sales are sometimes not as predictable (For a few month they beat even Fotolia). But lately they are tend to be more in the income range between 123rf and StockXpert
- inconvenient upload system

157
Just click sell only and you can upload the max. amount of images for sale.

The PC thing is photocommunity in addition to selling images, take part in forum discussion photo competitions etc. By clicking this you can upload images to the Photocommunity so people can rate them and tell you how great your image is.
If you want that I would recommend PC Standard, because its free  :)

Sales are as usual, but new images are not showing up in the search. Got them approved on monday and they are still not showing. So I am missing my weekly boost..

Yeah some memorial day results are a bit odd..

Hmm, I am probably also not good enough, I have not received any e-mail, but I assume this, because they have not moved my stuff over to Veer. Did you guys apply directly at Veer market place?

Adobe Stock / Re: FT rank
« on: May 10, 2009, 11:02 »
Overall rank   223
7 days rank   84

Woah, nice ranking, but if I see your portfolio no wonder! Great stuff!

162
The best software I know for this is Lightroom 2 and it does more than just manage and describe your images.

Dreamstime.com / Re: Duplicates will be removed

What is with monochrome, sepia and BW version of the same image?

I would say thats duplicates. If you have a color version than that is more than enough and they normally sell better anyway, although your Bulldozer looks pretty cool in Sepia  :) But maybe Achilles can clarify.

Dreamstime.com / Duplicates will be removed
« on: May 08, 2009, 03:51 »
Quote from Achilles from the Dreamstime Forums

"There are many contributors who knowingly or unknowingly have submitted duplicates of their images. Duplicate=100% identical content.
There are thousands of files cluttering our searches, affecting the customers experience and decreasing the sales potential for that content (dilluting sales required for higher levels). Sometimes we found 4-5 versions of the same file.

Starting tomorrow we'll begin to remove the duplicates, triplicates, quadruplicates etc. Only one version will stay, the oldest one. Or the one with most downloads, if there is one.

The bad news: they are not just removed but will count towards the approval ratio as refused files. If the file was keymastered, no refund is given. If the file received the upload bonus for full exclusives, the bonus will be removed from your earnings.

The good news: we will transfer the sales towards the file that is kept online. Comments, collection and lightbox placement will be transferred too.

If you don't want your AR to be affected, you can search for the files and disable the duplicates yourself. You will lose the sales transfer though and the file that is kept will sell at a lower price.

This is just a first step to clean the database. We can say that we're a mature agency now so we should act accordingly."

Is Patrick that good that all get so excited? I do not know this guy. Funny that that happened after just recently iStock hired one of the guys who ran Fotolia Germany  :)

Your examples above are for more specific subjects, leading to a smaller pool of images. Our engine is quite spamproof, but when you reach the lower end of the spectrum, we may still face some spam.
We have worked with the most popular searches and the ones providing a high number of results.
As time goes by we work to clear the more specific results too so you should continue to see improvements, even if the changes are not as drastic as with the main updates.

A comparison between an agency that had a great engine all the time, with one that was updated recently, may be unfair, especially if you look closer. It would be extremely easy for us to provide eye appealing images and made them quite relevant, but they wouldn't be the most relevant. On the long run it proves bad because fresh content cannot make it and new photographers will not earn enough.
I do agree that we should provide nice images not just meta-data-nice images, that is what we are trying to do.

Serban, I do not think it is unfair, when I compare DT with IS. Don't misunderstand me, I do not want to put DT down, I am sorry if you had that impression. I actually wish Dreamstime would do better than IS.
Its just, if I would be a buyer, I would not care about how long it takes to update a search or that the one company had much more time to develop a good search. What I want as a buyer is simply a good search. What you should aspire to, is have the best search engine and currently reading what you are saying it seems you think you have a pretty good search engine. Although you think its not perfect it seems you are pretty satisfied and only some more minor modifications are necessary to do.

But when I compare for the sake of seeing how a very good search engine works I do think DT's search engine needs some more "drastic" changes and not minor changes. But maybe you are indeed striving for more than only minor changes and I misread you. Thats what I am concerned about.

Let me add I do think DT is a great agency, I like it, I have respect for the people working there and I have recommended it to buyers in the past and wish DT all the best for its future, but that is also why I am writing this.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Contributors' Collective
« on: May 04, 2009, 14:31 »
Having our own sites and linking them together would be great.  We would all pay for our own hosting etc. and could put a small percentage of sales in to marketing.  I still think it need a lot of the top 100 contributors to make it work though and I haven't  seen much interest from them.

I like that idea of course. The main problem though is how will the buyer find the images he is looking for?
While writing this it just came to my mind that maybe we can do something with smugmug. They have a search capability with keywords and almost all the infrastructure you need already running.  And they will only take 15%. You have to pay a yearly fee though. But there are a few contributors with their files online already. E.g. Cdwealthy has already a big collection of his images online with them and I have images for sale there as well.

169
I am an optimist by nature and I was optimistic about the photos.com and JIU deals with StockXpert. After selling through this sites for a while now I was brought back to reality  :) I did not shared the pessimism of a few fellow contributors. Now I know better and opted out just yesterday after I reviewed my income through the photos.com, JIU sites. For me it's as well less than 1% of my microstock income. I am rather selling my images through one or two subscription sites less.

+1

171
Oh yeah, apparently it does use adobe camera raw. Do you have issues with adobe camera raw?

172
The newest version of Lightroom.  You probably will say why didn't I discover it before  :)

173
Probably most exclusives won't opt in, there is not much to win anyway, with the amount of sales one has at JIU and Photos.com.

174
I though he wanted to get an Audi R8. But it is anyway a nice car and more than enough :)

175
It seems a much wider variety of images are being downloaded then before. So more images are found and in addition images which were doing well almost do similar well in the new best match. Earnings/day were very constant on a high level. So that means this week was amazing . BWE I think. Buyers must love it as well  :)
