I'd have put money on Andrew not coming back *surprised face*

I've been a bit busy, only about 20% gone so far but I'm determined to hit the deadline. Probably going to leave the chaff up there.

I agree with mbug. Go on, show us your portfolio?  :)

I think microstock is going through a transitional phase, it's going to hurt for a bit but the wheel will turn and Getty will be outmoded again.

A slight boost for indies during 'decision month'?

nice upgrade on royalties for 40% at iRockstock, great job

Thanks Luis. Just here to keep tabs on iStock as always.

Just to elaborate a bit - my sales on iStock have increased significantly this month so far, don't know why but talking people down from the fence with a temporary best match shift the month before your indy files get 'locked' into other systems that, if you're like me, have no idea regarding the T&Cs of TS and other Getty family sites, loss of RCs and control over where your work is sold. A few extra dollars could be enough to sway people?

« on: August 29, 2011, 19:05 »
Now I'm faced with a very difficult decision - should I leave iStock altogether? I'm seriously considering leaving, but it will cost me a significant drop in income. I wish I knew what to do. I'm wondering how many of us independents will leave altogether - if most of us leave, will this harm iStock? Would they even care?

Try not to get too stressed :) For me it was best to get out and forget about what the company used to be. The loss of income I suffered after RC was introduced was very difficult, I took a hit when I dropped exclusivity and now I'm earning $100s instead of $1000s per year so it's not going to hurt as much when I start deactivating more of my files. Think what I'm trying to say is they'll make the financial problem go away for you over time (if that makes sense). Good luck!

I think this new agreement is my last straw, I'm finally ready to unload my 200+ images from iStock, and my account from early 2003. Any suggestions where I can take them nextany miscrostock sites possessing an ounce of honesty or loyalty to contributors these days?

I can't work with this either. I'll be unloading too.

Ooops the claim is 100 people got screwed not 1000 as I said.

^^ I second that. Feels nice to be on the outside looking in :)

"the PNG, (portable network graphics) format. Its big advantage compared with JPEG: it supports an "alpha" channel that lets designers mark parts of the overall image as transparent."

thanks, but no need for an alpha channel: seeing from sales stats, all of my pictures there are already transparent and invisibile to buyers lately  ;D

lol

"Everyone sort of settled down.", really? I guess getting tired of ranting to a brick wall on the forums constitutes agreement. I won't forget what they did.

I was firmly within the alleged "0.1 percent", so that's me and 999 others. Even if it were true it's still appalling.

ETA: Have you ever thought about how strange it is when you get the same number of dls per day? Always at least one? Or whatever your numbers are? Seems there should be much wider swings and variance. That also leads me to believe there's something funny going on with the numbers. I'm no mathematician, but the probability of getting such consistent sales on a daily, weekly, monthly basis seems kinda off to me. Right? Or am I the only one who's thinking this?

Very often, I always felt that my earnings we're way too consistant - now and again earnings could fall into the pit because of site issuse but would never rise beyond a certain point. I complained to my partially interested wife a lot.

Good job we've got haters like you to keep us informed.

Eh? Without the eyes and ears of the MSG people we'd be much worse off. And if you contribute to microstock so would you.

I'm guessing that's a poor exclusive speaking Halfshag. Some of them are in a very uncomfortable place right now ... and it's probably becoming more uncomfortable with every month that passes. It can't be helping if Istock have reduced their marketing too.

Could well be gostwyck. Agency quality is a big deal to most of us and iStock falls way short in my opinion. Expect criticism woo-yayers, especially here.

Enough is enough. I've binned my crown for all file types and should be free at the end of March.

I didn't suffer a massive loss but I'm hopping mad about the new windfall iStock gets month on month on top of the royalty cuts. Fecking crazy.

My guess is there are many in the "in crowd" who aren't making their targets and this is a way to smooth the way for them.

I think so too. It irritates me that I'm being asked to believe it's just marketing.

Why didn't they tell Jenn? Why didn't they tell us? Is it to help Vector people like myself make the grade (in year 1 at least) or to alleviate a backlash in January 2011. The 'something interesting for Illustrators' coming soon is an attempt to stop people leaving, hanging around on empty promises? They're just breading contempt & encouraging conspiracy. Silence from staff members on the forums means; they don't like you & don't need you.

What a hicking mess.
