"The media people are at a loss in trying to deal with Trump.  He doesn't follow the pattern and they don't know how to handle him. "

All they have to do is show him talking.  Every time he speaks, I can't believe how stupid he sounds.  Last night, I caught a clip, and as usual, everything was "tremendous".  It's like a drinking game.

I think GWBush was worse.

....

The basic premise of the book is that if you have a high income and frugality you accumulate wealth over a lifetime. High earners who are high spenders have nothing to show towards then end of their lives. Their children generally live off the parents wealth. Frugal parents limit what they give their children.

The people that are going to 'feel the Bern' will be the high income frugal savers just underneath the 1%. They'll also be the ones who pick up and move elsewhere when it becomes advantageous.

first, a large proportion of that 10% is INHERITED wealth

but bigger factor is that any increased tax is on INCOME not total wealth -- so even doubling the current tax rate on  this 10% would do little harm to their actual wealth or spending

In this tax on INCOME scenario, the 10% who inherited wealth would be better off sitting on their wealth rather than risking it in the economy, trying to be productive, which means less taxes.

Bernie is a bait and switch.

He points to the 1% as the problem but if he gets elected he will tax the stuffing out of everyone but the 1%. Apparently he had his honeymoon in the communist soviet union. It's unbelievable!

The brain boxes will leave the USA.

Bernie already admitted on Bill Maher that he's going to increase taxes for more than just the 1%. He'll likely increase taxes on the top 10% and people earning less. It's a slippery slope. Everyone is a socialist until they start earning a decent salary.

top 10% account for > 80% of total income; no  other industrial nation comes close to US income inequality

the bigger question is what we'd get for our taxes.  current laws are skewed to reqard that top 10% without exacting their share of costs.  new taxes could bring us into the 20th century in terms of universal health insurance, social safety net, job creation, etc, etc  rather than rewarding the parasitical financial sector which produces NOTHING

that's the real socialism in the US -- corporations are bailed out when they fail, but keep all the profits when successful

There is corruption at the top level. I think we all realise this. Banks and Governments are in bed. Do you really think Bernie is going to remove the Reserves Banks fractional reserve money printing and give us sound money? Do you think he'll get all that bailout money back to the people? No. He wants communism or socialism (communism lite).

Socialism is like a compressor on the middle class. Every year that you apply the compressor you get slightly less productivity. For the first few decades society seems better off and more cohesive but eventually more people join the taking side of the ledger and then there's not enough taxes to pay for everyones entitlements.

Let everyone keep more of what they produce and you'll see more productivity.

There is a podcast/audiobook I listened to a few years ago that was about first generation millionaires. In that audiobook they said that exRussians make the highest proportion of first generation millionaires. Why? I would propose that the brain boxes got out of there when possible and went to the free market.

The basic premise of the book is that if you have a high income and frugality you accumulate wealth over a lifetime. High earners who are high spenders have nothing to show towards then end of their lives. Their children generally live off the parents wealth. Frugal parents limit what they give their children.

Many jobs were exported to developing nations and we're now starting to feel the pain.

My suspicion is that Trump is saying all the right things and he looks like an outsider, being attacked from the establishment, but he is in reality just playing a part. A bit like 'hope and change' but this time for the righthand side of politics.

Everyone knows something is wrong and we're heading towards an endgame so the candidates are more extreme, such as Berni and Trump. The death throws are getting more extreme.

He could be "playing a part".. the rest are for sure playing a part.

Frankly, I'm over playing my part. I envy the Islanders that I've visited a few times. They don't have Governments tax 50% of their fish and vegetables. They don't have medical and iPads, but they have other freedoms that are quite nice.

There are many studios that distribute via Getty and also anywhere else, like Blendimages etc...

Yuri is not a single artist, he is a production house.

So if I become a production house I can upload anywhere and still be exclusive.

60
When will we see Stocksy get out of the low earners section?

I don't get it. In the blog Yuri says he gets 40% from istock but is hoping to get 45% royalty in the future and yet he sells through his own website peopleimages.com

Just did a search too. Yes there must be something dodgy going on. A lot of those icons there's no way I would get through review. My rejects are much more complex than that, the sort of stylised illustration you could use as a logo.
I had a reject a few weeks back which surprised me. It could be an algorithm that picks out certain images and sends them to an inspector.

A guy who employs staff once told me that he gets half the pile of job applications and throws them in the trashcan because they are the unlucky half and he doesn't want unlucky people working at his company.

Another artist uploaded their first image September 16, 2014 and they have 113,000+ images. So they've been uploading to istock for 481 days, that's 236 images per day. That's 113,000+ images in less than 1.5 years. I bet they didn't take a Christmas break.

The artist with over 67,000 uploaded their first image on the 9 of march 2015. So in roughly one year they have uploaded 67,000+ images.

I've been inspecting the vector section of istock and have noticed several artists with 10,000, 20,000 and even 67,000 images most of which seem to have been uploaded within the last year.

In the past we got rejections for similar images, low detail, too simple, or the inspector just didn't like it but now it's like a flood of very simple images. Two of the artists I checked out have the surname of Wang which could be a real person or could represent a graphics factory. The artists are not doing anything wrong but it doesn't bode well for vector artists that take time to do high quality pieces because they will rarely be viewed.

I guess with the subs istock is keen for this type of art flood.

What do you expect the Stock Inclusion Fee to be? That's fairly important knowledge to have before uploading hundreds of images.

SIF, brilliant!

It doesn't make sense to charge a SIF when they get 30% on each sale.

It doesn't make sense based on what we know. It doesn't make sense to drive on the left side of the road where I am at.

I find that this subject is even talked about very fascinating. I think its a natural phenomenon at work, like an economic sunrise and sunset if you will. See attached chart.

I of course wouldn't touch this model with a ten foot pole but still its very interesting to witness. We can expect more stuff like this as time goes on. There is no choice.
Sorry, I don't get it. Why is there an upward swing to ideal if the contributors are now at war?

I wonder if Bruce is looking for another 50mill+ buyer?

Someone makes this speculation every few months.  Let's put it to rest, shall we?  Stocksy is a co-op.  This is not a thing that will or even could happen.

Time to wake up. I like many other people wonder if Bruce had stayed at the helm of istock, would we have been better off. Stock has been my full-time job for 10 years so it kind of matters when, after everyone else has taken a percentage on the way through, it puts food on the table.

Wake up how? Stocksy is a co-op. That means one person literally can't just decide to sell the company.  Also, Bruce hasn't been the CEO of Stocksy since 2014.

Ok, so we can put 'to bed' the idea of Bruce selling Stocksy because you've all been co-opted. My point about istock being better off still stands.

Nice little article about the debt laden Getty images.

In the real world everyone goes to the large hardware stores because they know there will be a range of products to chose from that will suit their needs.

People in specialised industries go to specialised outlets for their needs.

Most people avoid the local hardware because they only have two items in anyone category and the brand is some name you've never heard of.

« on: February 23, 2016, 19:55 »
In the UK, we have to endure listening to George Osborne telling us 'We're all in this together' while cutting taxes for the richest and taking money away from the poorest.  He is a multi millionaire, like lots of the present government, how can they possibly relate to people that have to use soup kitchens to feed their family?  I wish we had a real democracy, a government that represented people from all society.  We lurch from one extreme to the other.
I've always said that if our vote actually made any difference to the status quo, they'd find a way to take it off us!
The whole system is run for the benefit of the few. Always has been, and always will be.
Having said that for all it's faults, some of the alternatives to our present system are far worse.
You're right. It could be worse. Unfortunately I think we're slowly heading towards worse. We're becoming hi-tech serfs.

Off Topic / Government - Let's all work together
« on: February 22, 2016, 20:57 »
I was watching TV this morning, in Australia, and I had to endure another Government advertisement about how we all need to "work together". Almost every Government advert during the last ten years has the byline, "Let's all work together".

I must be the wrong sort of person for this society because this ad doesn't appeal to me at all. I feel like it is mathematically impossible for me to financially uphold every other person in our society. I would rather a firewall from society, as in the Gov gets 25% and no more. At least then I can plan and work towards the wellbeing of my family and those I care about rather than being lumped with the burden of millions of people.

They already take around 50% of the average persons wage, by the time you aggregate all taxes, which leaves little after paying for your living expenses, and it's never enough. The average wage in Australia is $75K and the cost to fund the federal budget this year is $39K per working person. In 2013, 16.5% of the working population worked for some level of Government and I don't think this figure includes people whose jobs are supported by businesses that win Government contracts.

Neither party seems to want to pull back on public spending. The red party wants more and the blue party wants slightly less but still will not consider drastic cuts to public spending. All media coverage is about how can we get more taxes out of people because 'we're' running out of money! Let's up the GST ! Let's tax super concessions! How about, let's cut public spending and let people accrue some capital so they can take care of themselves and their families?
