Symbiostock / Re: Symzio is now LIVE

I find the images dropping down from the top of the screen disconcerting.

I can't see the total amount of images found for the search, it just says next page, so you're not sure how many next pages there are going to be.

Not wanting to offend. It's my first impressions.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Where is the "bottom"?
« on: February 17, 2016, 01:31 »
Here's me two cents. :P

Large stock sites must have some fixed costs like storage of data, staff, legals, etc. So the bottom for some of these sites will eventually come. I can't see it being anytime soon. They still seem to be getting the lions share of each sale.

Rumour has it that one of them has large debts and others have shareholders which history tells us like to get paid, so there must be a minimum cost for them to keep going after which they should implode.

Istock is a big mess and they really don't know how to get out of this hole. Now they are targeting to destroy their exclusives relegating their work at the end of the searches. I am only waiting the day that Stocksy and Adobe accept editorial ...that will be my goodbye kiss to the crown.
Yes. Exclusives are going under the bus. At the lower end of subs the royalty difference between indi and exclusives is 25 cents. I have an image that sold once as regular sale, got $12+ dollars and the same day it sold in subs for 75 cents (plus a mystery amount added at sometime, somewhere, if you can work out the CSV doc, I can't).

To make a long story very short. Getty is an image whore. They will sell your work for anything they can get, ranging from top dollar to pennies. There is no consistency with them. I have sold images for thousands of dollars and I have also sold images for one penny. Very ugly company to say the least. Getty Images has absolutely no respect for photographers at all.

Getty isn't the whore. Getty is the Pimp. Now you all get back out there on the internet and make more art for Big Getty.

Can they add a function called Pay-hero where they put an extra two zeros behind every payment?

It is just demoralising. All of our credit sales are being converted to subs. Long live iStock! iStock lives!

I quit advertising!

Here's how you do it:

1. Miss your umpteenth flight to L.A. to shoot yet another bad commercial because you're still jet lagged from the red eye you took back from L.A. two days before, but you had to fly back because you had 100 things to do at the office and nobody would cover for you.

2. Call your partner from the airport to tell him you missed your flight, you'll miss the day's casting, you've had it and you're not doing this any more.

3. Each time someone from work calls to convince you to come back, laugh and say no thanks. Repeat five times.

That's all there is to it!

(Is there a way to make a living that doesn't suck?)

Become a rent seeker at the top of the pyramid.

Well apart from istock stuff ups there are a lot of other factors involved in the downgrade of microstock like over supply.

so, why istock downloads and revenues still constantly down within 2 years? despite increasing folio and despite sales on other sites still going on normally. WHY???

Settle down mad mad man. If sales are normal on other sites focus your attention there.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Subs creeping up
« on: April 14, 2015, 18:31 »
I guess my point is that subs are overtaking the regular image sales and so there is no need for iStock to change royalty rates as our income is turning into cents per image rather than dollars.

iStockPhoto.com / Subs creeping up
« on: April 14, 2015, 00:07 »
I took a look at my stats history today. Starting in April last year subs were a very small part of my monthly sales but they increased each month and for the last three months they are now around 60% of total sales. Subs are increasing but they only represent around 10% of my income. I'm being swallowed by the new subs system.

In April 2014 subs were 1.4% of sales and 0.11% of income. The graph climbs from there up to over 60%. For March subs are 64% of total sales and they are only 10.29% of income.

Debt. It's a sure path to slavery. Surely that debt placed on Getty was a set up. Even back in 2012 we contributors knew the trajectory was downwards. Carlyle Getty crapola funny business screwing up real people's lives.

This has been a major problem with microstock from the beginning. There's little you can do about it because its like wackamole. You swat one guy down and two more pop up.

Stock photography is not my main job but i want to learn and understand.in the beginning just i upload many photos,i didn't search too much about how works stock photography statics,

If stock is not your main job then don't sweat it. Just concentrate on the main thing and if you get some sales consider it a bonus.

I said it a few months ago. They topped and tailed the collection. The small image buyers now have to pay a fortune for small images and the high end image owners get far less per sale.

So it is less for everyone.

How do Apple, Google, Starbucks and many others get away with making profits all around the world without paying taxes on those? They only pay taxes to the IRS for profits they actually made within the US.
