I liked your earlier shot of the person cooking sausages, and from the little I know it seems to me SS like people shots - and they don't seem to like shallow dof (for me at least).  Good luck!

« on: December 23, 2010, 05:10 »
in my crits over at SS its been drawn to my attention that i tend to shoot with a shallow dof, which even though i do intentionally, isnt a great idea on gettin my 1st approval.

Most of the agencies tolerate shallow dof, but the focus have to be in the right place. I shoot sometimes with shallow dof and I sometimes get rejected for having the focus in the wrong place (even if I do disagree with the reviewer). You could always post some images here for us to criticize and to see if we think your shallow dof images are focused in the optimal distance.

The lens performance is also crucial when shooting with large apertures, I many times downsize my images to get more sharpness in the sharp areas.

Posting images here for critic (preferably in full resolution) is generally a good idea, without images we can only imagine what we are talking about.

I've had very little success with shallow dof on SS, photos accepted on IS, FT & DT seem to be routinely rejected by SS for focus in the wrong place.  I'd suggest avoiding shallow dof for the initial 10.

Yeah, not much to do with being generous to folks who need the money for Christmas; everything to do with getting out of there on time for their vacation.

Exactly. Same folk that are going to cut my income by 10% in a few days time. Seems that them getting 80% and me getting 20% just wasn't enough for them. From my next payment it's going to be 82% to them against 18% to me.

There is absolutely no reason whatso-f**king-ever to give them credit or 'kudos' of any kind. They are a bunch of greedy, exploitive corporate f**k-pigs who are reaming you for every cent they think they can get away with.

I can scarcely believe that you kow-tow, thank and applaud them for paying your measly sum a few days 'early', even though they actually had all of the customers' money weeks or months ago anyway. It is positively embarrassing when I see microstockers yielding and spreading their cheeks so cheaply. Pathetic.
Nicely said.  We're supposed to be grateful that we get paid when an absolute shafting is just around the corner?
When I read the thread about the EL bonus I could hardly believe what I was reading, everybody seemed so thankful as if they'd been given something that wasn't theirs to start with - "Wow...that's even better than 100% Royalty day."  My boss used to say never underestimate people's stupidity...I think he had a point.

Wow, just searcher for 'animal', and first page results:

First Page:

Vetta: 40
Agency: 7
Regular: 3

Second Page:

Vetta: 40
Agency: 4
Regular: 6

With no option to turn off, no wonder buyers are pissed
the fact you can't turn them off, like the agency sticking "bug", seems to point to a desperate end of year cash grab.  I have never for a second believed the agency issue was really a bug; and I don't believe the site couldn't be fixed (very easily) to exclude agency and vetta.

Adobe Stock / Re: FTP issues. what?
« on: December 08, 2010, 09:11 »
Did you spot this (sorry if I'm stating the obvious, I initially tried with built in windows FTP functionality and couldn't get it to work)...works a treat with filezilla (as stated above you must be validated too).

"You must use ftp client software to upload your photographs on Fotolia.

Install the software
Configure ftp destination (URL: submit.fotolia.com)
Connect and transfer your photographs

We recommend Filezilla as a FTP client (http://filezilla-project.org/) "

I hope it continues and moves up one more spot, at least.

You are really on the watch to past an copy any customer complain at istock. This one have been already posted at least two times. Such and effort and dedication.
Maybe people want to let others in the community read the post, knowing that somebody at Istock will likely delete the original?

Shutterstock.com / Re: Applying To SS while still exclusive
« on: December 01, 2010, 11:37 »
I canceled my exclusive contract at IS I went ahead and applied at 3 other agencies that I wanted to start with.  During the 30 day waiting period, at SS you simply opt-out of everything from your profile page.  Then upload away and start filling your portfolio.  Once your 30day waiting is up and your exclusivity canceled, you can opt-in at SS.

I wonder if this will reduce "the new-image-boost" ?

I was thinking the same, it might be better to get accepted, turn off downloads and when your 30 days are up upload the rest of your portfolio to get the best of the mega boost new images/contributors get.

didn't sell much but even so, thank you DT!  (Certainly beats the highwayman approach of IS and a stupid competition that nobody is interested in.)

Someone help me to increase list? Is it not sufficient to Mr Thompson resign?

None of this stuff is sufficient to cost Thompson his job. What will, however, possibly cost him is if he doesn't hit the earnings projections that he's been tasked with reaching.

Which, frankly, could actually be the worst-case scenario for contributors. Especially exclusives. If Thompson is replaced, the new guy will probably take a look at where they can cut some more costs to get back on track with the profit goals, and those big 30-40% royalty rates for exclusives might begin to look even more "unsustainable."
Yup. Looked at it in that light, things like the EL fiasco (2 months interest on the underpayments, no sign that it's going to be resolved today; totally inadequate responses on the forums and from CR) could be helping him to reach his target.
yep, I'm surprised the greedy pigs haven't rolled out the code to screw nons at a pathetic 15% yet

I hope more buyers do bail, hopefully to a site that pays a fair %

mucky b*stards, they really think they can buy people off by  a pittance of their own money back at them after robbing them.
Oh wait, they probably can.
they can, 'what fun', 'how cool', how stupid are these people?
