Dreamstime.com / parents can't be witness?
« on: December 17, 2008, 08:20 »
I got a rejection because one of the parent's of the minor model was  the witness of the release while the other signed the release on behalf of the kid. I am not so sure  if they have a legal  base  to implement such a rule

I can understand why they are being strict about the image quality but I don't see much use why they (most microstock agencies in general) being too fussy about  the paperwork. I like the way alamy works best. they don't even ask you to upload a  model release knowing that it will be  the photographer that is responsible of all the info they provide.

I'd like to hear your opinion too.

thanks

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Spamming = more sales
« on: December 07, 2008, 13:01 »
I don't understand how spamming could increase sales how come a buyer would   buy a bunch of flowers while they are searching for image of a businessman(but on subscription site spamming could work though)
anyway 10 keywords sometimes might not enough to include all important  aspects of an image.and disabling photographers right to add or remove keywords  after approval or limiting  number of keywords would (to my point of view)be  in  a way punishing decent contributes for immoral act of spammers. I think instead they should implement hard  penalties to those who are clearly spammers and   contributors or buyers  could  report inappropriate keywords. I also don't like the idea of conceptual keywords being left out  and considered as irrelevant if not spamming.(which happens at IS)
imagine having a portrait of a kid smiling and not being allowed to include the "happy" as keyword.

is that black spot issue phenomenal? according to what I read on some other sites just some (few) users experienced that and it may be resulting from several variables (camera malfunction, post process etc)but for the time being it too early to tell if  it is a general problem. since not so many 5d m2 users out there to figure out how common that problem might be.
anyway I am so desperate to replace my old DSLR as it is on it's last legs and I will be getting 5d m2 as soon as I can ,despite the risks of being an early adopter.

I guess first you should check with IS and SS to figure out if the usage covered by the terms of use. and if you figured out that they used the image out of the terms than you could either sue them or before that you could contact them and try to make a deal. but in all cases you should get a legal advice from a qualified lawyer.

Anyway I tried to shoot some waterdrops with those strobes yesterday , but the thing is I can shoot at 1/160 with them and my 5D and that is too slow me thinks.

So can anyone share some advice or solution for that or I need more equipment for faster shoots ?

Thanks

for such fast speed photography what is important is your flash speed rather than your flash sync speed because they couldn't freeze the motion at such shutter speeds like 1/200 or 1/250 .Best solution is to get a flash with high speed and usually those small strobes has super fast speeds like 1/10000  usuing lower power also increases the flash speed.

Canon / Re: Lenses for 5d mark II
« on: December 02, 2008, 20:23 »
here is my  current lens list ,which does almost all I need(except for macro but may be some kenko macro adapters would do the job)
nifty fifty+17-40 F4 L+70-200 F4 IS L
I am dying to buy a 85mm f1.2 L but I have to wait for at it least a year as it is very expensive and I will have a big hole in my wallet after buying the new 5d m2 :(  I'd also like to buy a 24-70 L f2.8 too.

General Stock Discussion / Re: 20 views at IS on first day
« on: November 30, 2008, 13:11 »
conspiracy or not, whatever you call it but I don't like the idea of number of views having affect on best match, which because  I think could easily be manipulated. this is what I noticed on StockXpert too. before the site  upgrade  very same people got higher places on pop desc order, which I believed was due to questionably high views.and the impact of high views seems to have an opposite (negative) impact on IS best match ,I know I have no proof of that but these are my thoughts.

General Stock Discussion / Re: 20 views at IS on first day
« on: November 29, 2008, 18:13 »
I seriously suspect something fishy going on with that views I also noticed that and mentioned on another thread. and it was just yesterday 3 of my newly approved files got exactly same number of views( 10) shortly after the approval. I have no proof and I don't know who to blame but I don't believe it could just be  a coincidence

I'm pretty curious on how you do things. You all shoot RAW images and then convert them to TIFF and to jpg. But do there's a way to upsize a JPG isolated shot of 4mb and achieve the 48mb limit???
they mean the uncompressed file size should be at least  48mb. your 4mb file size its compressed  jpg's file size. so if you open it in photoshop and go to image size menu on the top of the dialog box you will see the uncompressed file size, which  should be higher then 4mb.I usually up size my   8mp files  about 45%  to achieve the required  file size.

any ideas when it will be out in Europe?
According to some rumors it was early spring 2009 I hope that is not true.

eta:just read on canonorumors.com that it arrived in Denmark. I guess Yuri must be getting his pretty soon, lucky him! and also it was also available in Calumet UK for those who pre ordered.

Cameras / Lenses / Re: How low will the old 5D go?
« on: November 26, 2008, 17:58 »
I voted USD 1500 but it could even stay around 2k  though I don't expect a dramatic price drop since it still is a great camera.I don't know if they still have many of it in stock ,which I think  could affect the new price too.

Well if people become emerald and above fotolia will earn MORE because people will raise their prices.
that's right actually.but could they be worried  about loosing customers because of increasing prices?
please don't get me wrong I am not trying to justify their move I am just trying to understand the reason behind it.

That's bad news indeed! but I wouldn't be surprised to   see others make such move too since a lot of contributers reaching high ranks resulting in smaller cut for the sites.Unfortunately things are changing:(
I was hoping to become gold early next year but it seems impossible now.  at least they havn2t lowered the existing ranks,I know I am being too optimistic:(

sorry to hear you've just missed  missed the chance to become emerald Leaf!

I certainly am jealous now:)
