Canon / cheap mount rings How risky is it???
« on: October 28, 2009, 11:22 »
I am thinking of  getting a tripod mount ring for my  canon 70 200 f4 IS lens. but the price range for the products in the market are so huge. canon brand rings are sold at  $149 at BHphoto  also there are cheap third party options  on ebay  of which prices about $30-50. but I found this  cheap third party which is roughly  only about $10. http://cgi.ebay.com/Tripod-Mount-Ring-A-W-for-Canon-EF-70-200-300mm-Lens_W0QQitemZ110440813731QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item19b6c914a3

I am not considering getting the canon one as I find it too expensive. but how risky do you think it would be to get the cheapest one. at the end of the day it just looks like a piece of simple metal to me but I might be wrong though. so I'd like to hear your opinions.

Thanks in advance

Adobe Stock / Re: fotolia thumbnails - washed colors?
« on: October 11, 2009, 07:18 »
Hi.

I noticed that when I upload images to Fotolia, and that large previrew when mouse over, it has dull washed colors, but on other sites colors are preserved OK. Did you notice that problem?

May I ask what color profile you are using Peter? Because if you are using Adobe RGB  image might look  a bit dull on the web some sites automatically converts the thumbs to SRGB colour profile to make the colours pop but I don't think FT does so that might be the problem.

The price for the Mamiya ZDb 22 MP back has drop from $7,199 to $3,699 at B&H.

Yeah, that price is starting to look affordable.
It looks affordable for a digital back but what would  put me off is  the 50-400 ISO range of it

General Stock Discussion / Re: How Much are you making?
« on: October 09, 2009, 10:48 »
BTW I am pretty much sure that around 70-80% of all microstock earnings are made by a group of just a few hundred photographers.

Totally agree! In this sense micros seems to have become a bit of like macros like smaller number of photographers were in the business it was hard to get in  whereas micros seem to be open for almost anyone to join but it seems to me now micros start to have it's own  caste. the rest of the thousands of contributes will likely to remain as hobbyists or might even give up.Just to clear up I am not criticising anything or anyone just wanted to express my thoughts on the industry.I hope this was not too off topic.

Cameras / Lenses / Re: Highest sync speed in pro-sumer DSLR?
« on: September 16, 2009, 20:38 »
I think it would be around 1/200 or 1/250  and 1/500 for medium format cameras.

60
I really wonder what's going on with DT?
Lowest number of downloads in the first half of Sept. in many months.
All the other top sites are doing well.

last month  was my BME  on DT but this months likely  to be WME ,I can't understand such dramatic decline ??

« on: September 11, 2009, 08:44 »
dumb question but how do you know if your files get flagged. do you get notified by e-mail? I checked my folio to see if I got flagged too but I couldn't figure out ?

I haven't had any issues with payouts  but StockXpert seems to be slowly dying for me. My new files gets hardly any views and only older files keeps selling thus lower sales less revenue:((( Like somebody mentioned above I too keep uploading as it is quite easy process and reviews are fasts without any issues. But I got a feeling they might just shut down end of this year .I know nothing but just guessing from what I have seen.

Bigstock.com / Re: How are you doing at BigStock?
« on: September 06, 2009, 17:01 »
lately my sales have  gone down by 50% ,which were never great anyway.but I still keep uploading. But I don't like the new upload system it is far too complicated even worse than before. it is a very time consuming process I am not sure if it is worth uploading any more?????

Dreamstime.com / Re: Release confusion at Dreamstime?!
« on: September 06, 2009, 16:56 »
I don't really see their point.what would be so bad about having too many releases?  To my point of view the first picture should have one model release but it could not be end of the world receiving release for the person in the background.strange really.!

General Stock Discussion / Re: Crestock - is something going on?
« on: September 04, 2009, 12:22 »
lately I have more sales there too like one sale a day, which is amazing from crestock. but I stopped uploading looong ago and I don't think I will upload again as this .25cent royalties and all other issues drives me mad.  having said that I wish they were doing better and i hoe they were good enough to take stockxperts place, who seems to be slowly dying.sad to see this is happening:(

Canon / Re: Canon Announces EOS 7D
« on: September 01, 2009, 09:14 »
A quote from dpreview:
Quote
The 5D Mark II is a great camera, but I really feel that the 7D (with the exception of sensor size) is what the 5D Mark II should have been.

I totally agree with the statement above.Having said that   I only wish to have the frame rate adjustments on my beloved  5d m2 all the rest can be missed out, except for dual processor as it must be what enables the camera  to shoot HD video at higher frame rates.

also new: releases require a models birthday
I am quite worried that models might not want to include the exact day and month    only year should be enough.

Btw Thanks for the heads up and posting this I did receicve the newsletter from IS but I didn't read it properly.
