123RF / Re: Webuploader not working
« on: September 12, 2016, 05:12 »
I uploaded a batch via FTP a couple of weeks ago.  They sat on the server for a few days without appearing in the que.  I could see them when I logged on with my FTP client.  Then they just disappeared, and still nothing in the que.  Anyone else having this problem?  Should I try uploading again?

Nothing showing under "Returned Sales."  Neither are the photos in question listed under "Statistics."

DepositPhotos / Sales Not Showing
« on: February 27, 2016, 07:28 »
I received several automated email messages yesterday from DP indicating photo sales, one of which was an EL which netted me $28.32.  I clicked on the image, which is supposed to take me to the page on which the image is for sale, and I get an error message along with a log-in for "DPH Developers only."  So I went to my dashboard and discovered that only one of the sales is listed (34 cents), and it shows my balance as $10.78.  Is anyone else showing such discrepancies on the DP site?

In my experience, the acceptance / rejections are arbitrary.  I've had 100% rejection on SS and 100% acceptance on other sites with the same batch.  Other batches are vice versa.  Still other sites are somewhere in between, and images that are accepted and rejected are different among the sites.  Ultimately, they all end up for sale somewhere, so I move on.

"You'll make more money if we lower the commissions and the prices."  Right.  I've heard that before.   :o

Adobe Stock / Re: Fotolia Account Blocked
« on: August 16, 2015, 05:00 »
FT will block and terminate accounts for any reason or no reason without paying you what's due.  Been there, done that.  Moving on.

I once combined two releases into one image, for a video clip containing two people, and one of the stock sites rejected it because they said one of the releases was missing.  Apparently, they don't actually look at the release.  They just count the number of people and the number of release images attached to it.  So ever since, I just do upload one release at a time and attached multiple releases to the image as necessary.

DepositPhotos / DP Site Goes Russian
« on: July 06, 2015, 03:51 »
I'm trying to check my stats on DP, but it takes me to their Russian site, and I can't seem to get to the English site.  Anyone else having this problem?

UPDATE:  I found the English link on the site, and everything seems to be back to normal, except for the fact that I just got an EL sale that netted me over 35 bucks.  That's definitely not normal!  Woohoo!

123RF / Re: Disappearing Video Files
« on: March 30, 2015, 18:19 »
It's been over a week, so I don't think they're gonna show up.  I tried uploading just one file today and had the same experience.  The file sizes are relatively large - each file over 400mb.  I wonder if that has something to do with it?  I can't find anything on the site that tells me about file size limitations.

123RF / Disappearing Video Files
« on: March 29, 2015, 14:54 »
I recently uploaded video files to 123RF for the first time, but in the process of moving from the FTP server to the site server, they just disappeared.  As in "not there."  Not even in the history.  Gone.  Vanished.  Anyone else have this experience?  I'm wondering if I should try again or if it's an exercise in futility.

Off Topic / Looking for Print Supplier Recommendation
« on: December 12, 2014, 07:51 »
I'm looking for a low-cost, high-quality source for fine-art exhibit prints.  Probably 20 x 24, maybe larger.  Can anyone recommend one?

Adobe Stock / Re: fotolia does US tax withholdings wrong
« on: September 18, 2014, 04:27 »
That seems to be Fotolia's standard response.  Now they will ignore you completely.

If it were me, I'd make low-resolution copies of the clips, send them to the company, and let them decide which clips they want to use and how they want to use them, which would determine the rights that you would need to license, which would determine the price you would charge them.  Have them make an offer before you quote a price if you can.  You might get pleasantly surprised.  You could be thinking hundreds while they're thinking thousands.  And unless you have a release from the headline act, you might want to avoid sending those clips because you could run into some legal issues with them.

SS has always been the highest performer for me, and it continues to be so, but for the first time in the several years I've been a contributor there, I failed to make payout for two consecutive months (July and August).  I've had a few months here and there that I was just a bit short of the required minimum for payout, but never for two months in a row... until now.  I'm wondering if it's just a fluke, or is it the beginning of a trend?   :-\

PhotoDune / Re: I'm Done with Envato
« on: August 04, 2014, 09:16 »
Same here.  To me, Photodune has one of the easiest and least cumbersome uploading systems out there.  I can think of better ways to do the model releases, of course, but other than that, I'm happy with it.

It's looking like WME for me on SS.

Adobe Stock / Re: FT reviews - no rhyme nor reason

I agree with Mantis.  FT is a bottom-feeder and not to be trusted.  I once had a port there.  Not any more.

It's working for me.   :)

They closed my account with no appeal or recourse, and they kept the money they owed me.  Since there's no shortage of photographers, I guess that's one way to add to your bottom line.   :P

Why did they close your account if you don't mind me asking or did you close it and they didn't push back and ask why?

A model with whom I had shot a few years ago changed her mind for some unknown reason and demanded that I remove all photos of her from the stock sites.  When I refused, she contacted the stock sites, all of which except one referred her to me as the photographer, since I had uploaded a valid, signed, and witnessed model release.  That one was Fotolia.  They simply closed my account!  I asked if they'd reopen my account if I removed the photos of the model in question, and they said they would not.  They said the only way they'd reopen my account is if the model withdrew her request.  They even acknowledged the validity of the model release, but it made no difference to them.  Thus, any photographer who has photographs of people on fotolia is in a very tenuous position.

I still have to log in again if I close my browser (Firefox) and then return to the site, but at least it doesn't force me to agree to the TOS each time like it did before.

Envato / Re: Currently processing uploads
« on: May 02, 2014, 06:50 »
I've learned through experience that my photos won't process if I close my web browser.  I leave my browser open, and it takes several hours, even if it's only processing five photos.

CanStockPhoto.com / Four-year Review Time on CS
« on: March 26, 2014, 06:56 »
I got a message yesterday from CS telling me that they rejected photo and video files that I submitted to them in 2010!  Better late than never, I suppose.  The reason was the same for all files:  "File contains high levels of compression artifacts (halos, blocky, or fringed pixels)."  None of the inspectors on the other sites are seeing compression artifacts in the video files.  Makes me wonder what these inspectors are smokin'!   :o  It also explains why CS is a low earner for me.

May I point out thay many of the old XP machines will be great Linuxed based platforms and should be able to be good for many more years

Hmmmm.  Never thought about switching to another OS.  I'd be interested in knowing more.

I'm gonna put off ditching my XP machine as long as possible, but I know at some point, I'll have no other option.  I haven't been able to update Windows for several months because a while back, it was the automatic update that slammed my processor up to 100% and kept it there, slowing my machine to a crawl, and it would have baked the processor if I hadn't shut it down.  Then I discover that you can't update manually without turning on the automatic updates, so no updates since then.  But I've kept my antivirus updated and my home network secured, so I'm good.  8)
