Sales at CS are only occasional for me. However, I stopped uploading because recently a batch was rejected for lack of a model release. I'm sure I attached it, in which case it would be a system glitch. It's possible that I simply forgot to do it. But since there's no mechanism that would allow me to simply attached the releases and go forward from there, I'd have to start again at square one and reupload the images. Not gonna happen. Not worth the time investment for a low earner. I'm focusing my efforts on Pond5 where I'm in control because I set the prices and keep 50%.

I've been selling video clips on Pond5 for quite some time, and I've been very pleased with the site and the personnel. I've been waiting for a long time for them to accept photos, and I've submitted my first batch with great anticipation. If all goes well, I'll probably cease uploading on all sites except SS and Pond5. I'll give serious consideration to being exclusive to Pond5 because the benefits of setting my own price and getting 50% are rather obvious, and unmatched anywhere else that I'm aware of. If Pond5 is the catalyst for turning around our race to the bottom, then this is cause for celebration. If not, I'll just run the other direction with P5, and the others can keep doing what they're doing, but they'll do it without me.

I would love to see Cutcaster become wildly successful, but since it's a non performer for me, the review times don't matter. I don't upload there any more.

I have accepted it as routine. It normally takes hours to process a batch as small as a dozen files. I just leave it and go about my business. I'll check on it periodically. For example, I'll upload in the morning and begin processing. Check it right before getting some lunch. Check it after lunch. Check it at the end of the day. If it's done, I'll submit 'em. If not, I'll check it again the next morning.

I've shot in some locations where it wasn't possible to light it artificially, so I shot the location using small apertures, low ISO, and long exposures (with a tripod, of course), and I shot the model separately, then composited into one image. It won't work for every situation, but it's something to consider.

They're gonna limit your uploads and then require that you upload all images in one batch? What are they smokin'

I don't currently contribute because I have not yet had the time for a low earner like this but this will ensure I won't. My keywords are alphabetic, so I'd have to manually edit thousands of images. Not going to happen for 3.2% of shutterstock.
Ditto.

For me, FT is a low earner with occasional sales, contrasted with SS where I have daily sales. It took me eight tries to get accepted on SS, and a couple of those consisted entirely of shots that had been approved in previous attempts. Most (if not all) were images that had sold on other sites. It seems like a moving target with a lot of inconsistency, but it's worth the effort to keep trying. Maybe it's their way of weeding out those who aren't serious about it, or perhaps it's just too much subjectivity. Who knows? But it's the only site on which I make payout every month.

My experience has been that, almost without exception, photos that get rejected on one site generate sales on another. It's routine for me, and if there's any sort of discernible pattern, I certainly don't see it. There seems to be a lot of subjectivity involved.

I submit the same photos to various sites, but the rejections are typically very different among them, so although there is some overlap, my portfolio can vary. One site will have photos that the other won't, one site accepts more "similars" than another site, etc.

I recently had two of those "other" sales, both of which netted $15 - a first for me, and a far cry from the usual 33-cent subs. Hopefully it's the beginning of a trend.

My top-selling image at SS has sold 146 times so far. My number two image has sold 50 times. I'll take it!

I've had it happen a couple of times. It could be due to a number of things - credit card fraud, a buyer inadvertently buys a duplicate image, or maybe a buyer just changed his mind. It's disheartening, to be sure, but it goes with the neighborhood. Fortunately, it doesn't happen a lot.

I might join and upload if not for the fact that the site is so doggone slow. I click on a link and go grab a cup of coffee - and DRINK IT - while the next page loads. I can't afford that kind of wait time. It's the only site I have that problem with. Is it just me? Or is anyone else having the same experience?

I'm wondering, since they're such a low performer in terms of sales, why so many uploads?

Thanks for weighing in , Duncan. I routinely associate photos with series as appropriate, and it takes very little time. In order to facilitate the assignment of categories, it would help tremendously if we could select a number of photos - presumably with a check box - and assign categories to the selected photos in one operation, much like the assignment of photos to a series. In fact, maybe you can look at combining the two functionalities. It might be a good idea to keep the option of assigning categories to individual photos, but having to select categories for one photo at a time in a newly-uploaded batch is cumbersome and time-consuming.

Since there's no functionality on CS allowing a bulk assignment of categories, I'm wondering if it's worth the time and effort to assign up to three categories for each photo after it's approved. Does anyone have any data indicating how much buyers use the category function to locate and purchase images? I myself just do keyword searches when I'm looking for a particular type of image. Am I unique in that regard?
Sales for me at CS are only occasional, so I can't justify spending a lot of time on the site.

...I make more off of Zazzle in a month than I did from all the stock sites combined that I was on in a year.
I'd be interested to know how you did that. I haven't been able to make squat on Zazzle.

If they're stupid enough to pay a ridiculous amount of money for it (measured with at least five zeros), then I'm willing to part with the raw file. Otherwise...

I agree. Fotolia reasons are completely worthless because they're vague and irrational. Their inspectors are completely unpredictable. Thus, I don't bother reading about their "reasons." I just let 'em accept what they're gonna accept, reject what they're gonna reject, and go about my business. They're a low earner for me anyway, so it wouldn't make economic sense for me to invest a lot of time there.

There's a DMCA notice link at the bottom of their home page that brings up the Zazzle DMCA notice information.

I got the same shoddy workmanship from Cafe Press, after which I closed my account. Looks like I'll have to do the same with Zazzle unless it's an isolated incident.

This year, I had 8 DLs in January, 13 in February, 18 in March, then the upward trend came to a grinding halt with 4 DLs in April and 5 so far this month. I'm $3.55 away from payout, and my last sale was on the 15th. Grrrrrr.

As I said in another thread, it's a moveable feast on DT lately - you roll the dice and depending on what reviewer you get you will have a different outcome...
That has been my experience as well.
