Hi Bateleur:

No suggestions taken from you email at all. All ligit questions in my opinion.

The fee was minimal (mainly to cover a fabulous lunch, name tags, organizational supplies,  photocopies, and I believe the cost to refill the makeup artists kits, who supplied their time for free - very cool).

iStock subsidized part of the event, (including swag), hence, the exclusivity of the photos.

I sell on all the top sites, but would highly recommend attendance. It was a fabulous learning experience, everyone was really nice, a fun day and I got over 30 model shots out of it.

If any other sites were to hold one (which I would attend as well), and subsidize the costs, I think they deserve exclusivity of the results for their investment.

You should go to one in your area - I had a blast! I was terrified to go at first, but thought - what the heck? So glad I did and will jump to go to any of these type of events now.

Regards
Penny

Yes, which is more than fair (in my opinion) as they help out with the minilypse.  Many of the people that helped me were iStock exclusives (gold status), and they shared their knowledge, which was invaluable.

They scratch my back, I scratch theirs.

I was very pleased with the situation/agreement and the outcome. Would not hesitate for a moment to do it again, and even considering going exclusive one day.

I would like to know the answer to this as well please?

I got a book from Chapters which, after going through many of them, seemed good for me as I have no formal training.

(I wanted something easy to go through as I seem to have a short attention span these day). I'll post the name of it later when I get home from work.

The iStock minilypse that I went to recently was an excellent learning experience as well, and I got a bunch of shots to boot (that can only be sold on iStock)

An indoor shoot with models and lighting or an event shoot are different again from still objects or out of doors which brings all kinds of new challenges.

StockXpert.com / Re: Paypal payments from StockXpert?
« on: June 17, 2007, 06:24 »
I've had lots of paypal payments from StockXpert and they are a little slower than the other sites, but have alway come through for me without any reminders. The longest I've waited was 10 days once.

I don't think you have to worry. They had trouble in the beginning due to head office in Europe as paypal is from the States, so maybe thats where the delay comes in still?

I have over 80 picture on Natural Life Stock and not a sale yet, but I guess it takes time. There are some fabulous shots up there.

Curious if anyone has had a sale yet too?

« on: June 12, 2007, 05:27 »
StockXpert has been good this past week, June started out slow though.

Shutterstock, is another story. I don't have time to figure out "best upload days" and "feed the beast" so even though I have close to 200 pics, I might get a $1.00 a day. I've all but written them off.

Fotolia is picking up lately, but it takes me forever to get to my photos.

iStock... since they implemented the best match, 1 sale in 4 days. I think you need to become exclusive to get exposure under the new system.

DT - Sales are spotty, but the "pay per sale" is good like StockXpert.

or.... maybe its just "Summer".

Has anyone had any sales at Natural Life Stock?

257
.....sorry.... but....

EVERY TIME I LOG ONTO FOTOLIA, I HAVE TO WAIT AND WAIT AND WAIT FOR ALL THOSE DAMNED PICTURES TO LOAD ON THE FRONT PAGE!!!!  flip, a new one, flip a new one, EERRRRGGGG!

What a flipping waste of MY time. It makes me want to remove my gallery and never, ever go back.

ok, I'm done. (but I hope someone from fotolia reads this and takes note)

« on: May 10, 2007, 14:48 »
If you go to Lake Louise, be sure to do the hike up to the "Tea House" (Do lots of leg stretches first or you will get sore legs - Don't do it if you have lung/breathing issues, as the air gets pretty thin - this coming from an Ontarian, who is way closer to sea level). The view is stunning though!

Also, try hit Morain Lake. It is almost prettier than Lake Louise.

Columbia Icefields are cool too, especially if its sunny cause you can get some good "under the edge of the ice" shots at the base sometimes.

In Banff, the elk come right into the town so keep your eyes peeled...

OMG - you guys are so sweet. Thanks so much!

(blushing... I feel so special, sniff sniff)

Probably more than you need to know but I had 10 inches of my intestine removed along with some other items that had adhered to it. Ouch. 2 1/2 years of agony

Feeling better day by day, and I can eat a little bit more each day too. I went 10 days with no food at all. Madeleine's pie is looking mighty tasty right about now, but a week ago your flowers looked pretty tasty too!

Thanks Pixart!

I wanted to take my camera to the hospital, but I was too sick and am still not allowed to lift anything over 10 lbs. (dam those big lenses).

I've been dragging my lowpro slingshot all over the house cause I can't pick the darn thing up.

Heheh

I've been doing this for two years and got my first EL on Istock last week. (which was pretty cool.)

Got anywhere from over 500 to 100+ pics on various sites.

I think it's just luck (the harder I work, the luckier I get) that the designer has found that "particular" shot that just suits their need, and they are honest enough to purchase it through one site instead of going to each site and paying the minimal (to get the extra print run)

Just keep on working hard, improving, learning, have fun and anything is possible!

I've been to Banff, Jasper, Canmore, Penticton, Lake Louise, the Columbia Ice Field, Drumheller - all through the Canadian Rockies and Alberta as my sister lives in Edmonton. I think my biggest thrill was a horse back ride through Canmore. The horses are so calm that you don't even need to hold the reins, so you can take lots of shots that you don't normally see. Drumheller was pretty cool too! And the walk up to the Tea house at Lake Louise.

Yellowstone? It is located on an active volcano. (which scares the bee heesees out of me)

Keep in mind gas prices and the exchange rate.

Remember my motto ... "Everything has potential" and you can find stock just about anywhere.

Most important?  - have fun!

Can I play too??  :D

Stats...

IS - 33.32%
DT - 24.62%
SS - 17.19%
StockXpert - 15.97%
FT - 8.91%

I'll keep track so I can compare in May.

BTW - Hello everyone - Starting to feel a little better and can climb the stairs regularly now to get to my computer, so I can join in the forum a bit now. Thanks for all the "best wishes" prior to my surgery.

You can't see the horizon through the bottle.

And you are right... you can see the reflection of the photographer in the bottle.

Maybe it's a sign that we need to "care" more about what and how we say things without losing the freedom to express things that are importants to each of us.

I've noticed the grinding halt in downloads too.

DT and iS are usually neck in neck for me in sales volume dollars, now iS is a good $30. ahead of DT for the same period.

hhmmmm  :(

Dreamstime.com / Beware of uploading RAW files
« on: April 11, 2007, 10:57 »
I have contacted support for clarification but...

Over Easter I received an email from DT requesting that I upload my RAW file as an addition format due to a customer request. (I could have said no & will in the future)

I did this thinking that it would be an 8 credit sale. Lo and behold, 5 minutes after it is approved... the RAW file gets grabbed via subscription sale.

Credit to me?  A lousy $0.25 cents.

SUCKS!!!

Never again.

Hi Darrell...  Are you active and selling yet?

« on: March 16, 2007, 08:22 »
I found them speedy with the approvals too! and in the first month downloads were crazy. I have almost 200 pictures and half way into my second month and downloads have dropped to less than half, which is expected once the glut is over.

Adding small quantities of new pictures weekly, will be interesting to see how it fares after a month of normal downloading.
