StockXpert.com / Re: subscription impact on sales?
« on: December 03, 2007, 11:06 »
Hi guys,

I can't get into specifics, but the majority of subscribers are new customers (those who never bought ppd/credit before). Of the existing customers who did switch only a smal handful were on pace to spend more on credits than subscriptions (which is to be expected from at lease a few), but I can tell you these "big spenders" did not even come close to accounting for the majority of ppd sales on StockXpert.

Thanks!

No. It's not allowed. I reported it, and the user was sent a warning. Guess it's time to follow up again. Sigh.

Hi guys. We're still investigating this, but we think what might have possibly happened is that the hacker got into his e-mail first. You may want to consider changing your e-mail passwords too.

I don't know. I think I look like my avatar. Although the irony is that I'm more of a cat person. :)

Thanks everyone for such kind words and giving me my own thread. I can't wait to eventually meet all of you at some point and give all of you  t-shirts. It's the least you deserve for all your hard work, commitment, and patience.

As always if you need anything, you know how to reach me!

StockXpert.com / Re: StockXpert's $10,000 sale
« on: November 15, 2007, 09:20 »
Hi void!

The reason I posted it here first is because it was more in response to others being posted and specifically to one site using it as a reason to go exclusive.

Since StockXpert doesn't ask for exclusivity at all, I just wanted to let people know that these types of sale can happen anywhere, and if anything, it's a reason to diversify as much as possible.

The reason I posted it two days later on StockXpert is because I wanted to make sure I presented it in a way that didn't simply overhype the situation. I think it would have been irresponsible for me to present it in a way that gave contributors the impression that they should definitely begin to expect more of these or that they should change what they submit in order to land one of these.

I simply wanted to give it more thought about what it really means to StockXpert and the microstock industry overall.

You guys know me by now. This is how I am, for better or for worse.

I spoke for myself when I said I didn't really remember the image. I wasn't directly involved with the sale and I looked at it briefly before it was taken down. Like I said it was a floralesque grunge illustration. More of a quasi-abstract background image.

Sorry if my handling of the situation was offensive to you in some way. It was our first one like this. :)

Glad to have helped. Yeah. I remember when we acquired this site. I had no idea what to expect from RF stock music. This stuff is actually quite good. Really opened my eyes--um, I mean ears. :)

You're right. I think you'd need two units -- one for flash one for camera.

Definitely more expensive. Just wasn't sure if you knew it was an option.

Chode,

I haven't used them, but I hear great things about them.

http://www.pocketwizard.com.

My understanding is they use RF to control/trigger off-camera flash units, so the distance (breadth and length) covered is greater

StockXpert.com / StockXpert's $10,000 sale
« on: November 12, 2007, 13:38 »
I see some discussion going on about a couple thousand dollar sales on other sites, so I thought I'd mention we recently sold exclusive rights to an image for $10,000.

It wasn't exclusive at the time. It had been downloaded a couple hundred times already, and the contributor got 50%.

Obviously this isn't a normal occurrence, but it just goes to show that the chances of it happening are a little better if you diversify because it can happen at any site at any time.

Hi Sammyc!

Sorry about the ftp problems. Make sure your password is 10 characters or less and it should work. Please let me know if you have any more trouble.

StockXpert.com / Re: what happenned ?
« on: October 23, 2007, 13:01 »
Hi Elena!

Sorry for your frustrating experience on StockXpert. We are becoming more strict with model releases and property releases. As the site grows, comes under more scrutiny, and we enter into partnerships, we have to be tight on this issue.

I see you have deleted many of the rejected images. If you would like to appeal a review, you can put in a request and they can put the image back into the queue to review. But if you delete your images we can't do that or even give them a second look.

Thanks!

September winners have been announced. New contest will be announced tomorrow.

Actually, we make sure all contest entries are reviewed before judging as long as they were uploaded by the deadline date.

Thanks!

I've reported all these issues to our tech team, and they are in the proccess of fixing them.  We rolled out a few security updates and it seems to have affected some other areas of the site.

Thanks!

Hi guys.

sorry. I'm at Photoplus Expo today, so I'm checking in occasionally. We will have contest winners announced by Monday and the next contest announced on Tuesday.

Seems the stickies in the StockXpert forums are not working either. Our tech team has been working on fixing the bugs today. I have reported this one as well.

Thanks  and sorry for the inconvenience.

StockXpert.com / Re: how strict should they be?
« on: October 15, 2007, 13:09 »
Actually, the queue is almost back to normal. I just think the impact of rejections appears greater simply because we've added a few more reviewers and more images are being reviewed in a short period of time.

At first, new reviewers' work needs to be doublechecked by the more experienced reviewers, so it is not usually a case of new reviewer inexperience. And a good deal of those who appeal their rejections have had their images reviewed by our most experienced reviewers.

Like I said, if you think your images should be reviewed again. Let us know. It doesn't benefit either of us to reject images that are good sellers. Getting through the backlog is important, but not at the expense of good, sellable images.

Guys,

We are working towards providing better explanations for rejections, and we want you to use the contact us form if you need clarification for a rejection or would like to appeal it.

Clivia, you're right 'this file is fuzzy' should be clarified. I don't want this thread to become an individual review appeal forum, but I just looked at your photos with this rejection, and there is definite camera shake or motion blur (not sure which one, but it definitely exists).

I can tell you that many of the images that are rejected for the "we do not need these kind of photos" reason go beyond subject issues. Usually it's subject, technical, lighting, and compostion, and many of these images seem to be the environmental snapshot taken during the  stroll along the beach,  in the park, etc.

It really comes down to what you put into an individual image is what you will get out of it.

Our reviewers are human and they make mistakes, so if after you are as discriminating as possible about your shot and you sense an anomoly exists in a rejection(s) or the rejection is unclear, by all means, let us know.

Thanks!

Thanks!

Almost positive folders are not viewable to users.

Does FT provide the info or is there an optional form for the buyer to fill out that goes right to you?

Thanks for bringing the translation issue to our attention.  I'll forward this on.

Guys,

I'm putting together a list of UI enhancements that contributors have asked for in the past. Please let me know if there are any you would like to see on the contributor side of things. Need suggestions by tomorrow.

StockXpert.com / Re: StockXpert Subscriptions (Mulligan)
« on: October 11, 2007, 10:25 »
To address some more comments:

It will be opt-in by default. You will be receiving an e-mail or site mail with more info, but basically you will be able to opt-out in My account --> Profile. There will be a check box to uncheck.

This is option is on a contributor basis.

For search functionality the plan is to tag the images on the thumbnail pages to indicate which images are available via subscription.

I'm glad some of you have decided to give it a shot with the new terms. Now it's up to us to make it work!

StockXpert.com / Re: StockXpert Subscriptions (Mulligan)
« on: October 10, 2007, 15:54 »
Hi Madelaide,

Not sure yet, but I think we will simply tag images on the thumbnail pages to indicate whether or not they are available for subscribers. This way buyers don't have to click on the image to see if it is available or not.

Don't worry. We aren't offering year subs for $449.00 on StockXpert. Despite what some think, we don't have this type of flexibility with StockXpert subscriptions.

Sharpshot,

When we were discussing opt-out/in, we decided there should be no reason to not offer an opt-out clause since the goal is to make everyone more money. If we are confident in this purpose, then we shouldn't be worried that too many contributors will opt out.

Kngkyle,

Checking on the search functionality for subscriptions.

Pixart,

Photos.com is Jupiterimages wholly-owned content subscription offering. We occassionally do some cross promotion, so Photos.com customers (other JI customers, and graphics.com readers) also receive StockXpert promotions.

We also own the internet.com domain.
