I don't get it....why try and fix something that's not broken. If this goes ahead it could the death knell of this forum.

General - Stock Video / Re: Video sales on all sites
« on: February 28, 2013, 20:12 »
Pond5 is by far the my most consistent seller followed closely by SS. Revostock has a lot of bluster but very few sales...for me the only other one worth mentioning is the occasional sale on Clipdealer. Clipcanvas was quite good six months ago but has fallen away sharply. I also agree there are a lot of new people doing video contributing to lower sales.

General Stock Discussion / Re: The single most annoying thing?
« on: February 20, 2013, 01:52 »
I hate the regular emails I get from DT telling me they've deleted another image from my port...after the work involved in uploading and the fact some of the images have sold elsewhere, it's incredibly annoying.

I really don't think iStock realise the amount of damage they have inflicted upon themselves by doing this...hard to see what they are trying to achieve. Sean, I think you will find this event liberating for you...this will be evident quite quickly.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: D-Day (Deactivation Day) on Istock - Feb 2

Interesting quote from the Istock forums:

Posted By PaulCowan:
I think I will delete at least one useless old file on the 2nd, just in case anybody is watching the numbers to see how many contributors are annoyed enough to make some minor gesture of protest.

Paul, we are watching everything.

I think what Cowan suggested here is very interesting :  even if you do NOT plan to deactivate on Feb 2nd, or get rid of your crown, but you still want to show your concern :  DEACTIVATE AT LEAST 1 IMAGE on that date.

Getty might not be impressed by the number of deactivated files, but they might be by the number of angry contributors.

This is a very smart strategy...

Yeah I'm having the same problems as you....I think they have a problem with their FTP. I had to re-upload a batch of videos because no thumbnails were showing.

seriously! could you have a little respect for what's going on right now? I've got a small port, I'm nobody, and I am outraged. you are being all smiley and cheerful whilst others are deleting their ports and along with it, their livelihoods. we won't make a difference if we don't band together. people like you are the prime reason for why unions (something I detest) are compulsory. I'm sorry, but I can't understand how you can be so insensitive to post this - IN TWO THREADS - at a time like this.

I think you should have better manners as well....

If you submitted video to only one site...it should be Pond5. Most consistent seller by far...

So they are worth submitting to in your opinion?

89
Yep I make regular payouts with them...I've submitted to some agencies where I haven't. Be nice if they raised their commissions though.

90
I'm only seeing today's posts as well....much prefer the old home page too.

you are well intended but very naive.

I tend to agree. Rather than 'naive'...probably a misunderstanding of the enormity and cost of such an action.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Why do WE get paid commission?
« on: January 08, 2013, 04:17 »
One thing I don't understand is that the agencies and everybody else always calls our payout a commission. Maybe I'm wrong, but my understanding is that we pay commission to the agency. They are, well, an agent, we have the merchandise/product, they sell it for us and receive a commission. Which means, that to some of the agents or on some of the transactions the seller (Photographer) pays 80% commission. I don't know any other industry where those numbers would be valid.

Yes I know and they do such a great job that we pay them 80% commission.....I don't know about anybody else, but I'm willing to pay for great service. ;)

General Stock Discussion / Re: Dusting Off Some Old Accounts
« on: January 08, 2013, 04:11 »
Looking at some old accounts and agencies to which I haven't uploaded in months or years. Is anyone doing anything worthwhile at any of these that would make me want to start uploading again? Why or why not. Would like to find something to replace the bus fare I am earning from iStock.

Thanks in advance for any and all feedback.

Veer
Crestock
FeaturePics
Image Vortex
CutCaster
PantherMedia
StockPhotoPro
3DStudio
Yay Micro
Pixmac

Out of this list I would definitely upload to Veer, Featurepics and Panther. My experience is that Veer does fairly well but its a bit start and stop. FP and Panther are ok but slow. I don't upload to Yay but it sounds like I should....

Yes photo jpeg seems to have become the unofficial stock video standard.

95
Nice of you to put this together. It seems simple but effective...it's certainly something I think I could use so I'll give it a try. Thanks

To significantly increase the size of my video port....

The other thing you could have done was to download MPEG Streamclip which is free and will convert all sorts of movie files into photo jpg or whatever. You could put the files straight out of your camera through it...it will also get rid of audio and trim clips I believe....very handy and very good bit of software.

Wondering if anybody has sold any clips on Depositphotos yet? I know this this will probably bring a flood of comments saying they don't pay enough and I agree...but just curious.
