« on: July 11, 2017, 16:20 »
Every month this year has been great, but july is simply terrible. At this pace 20% of average.  :o. Sales basically stopped at july 1st. Weirdly pond5 is doing exceptionally well this month.

Why not just buy something from yourself, so you reach the payout threshold?

Not interested until video prices are at least $60 per clip.

Dissolve / Re: Dissolve lowering price on my footage
« on: June 17, 2017, 03:11 »
For me Dissolve is my third best selling agency, not far behind Pond5. I guess my clips fit well with their customer base.

and how would you define their "customer base"?
I have no idea, I can only say that my clips sell over there. I don't like it that they lowered the prices either, I'm just providing some data. There are people here saying that Dissolve has no sales, my experience is the opposite.

Please keep the suggestions and feedback coming. What do you want to see next?

The option to choose a different thumbnail for footage files, because sometimes Fotolia automatically picks a frame that doesn't showcase the content properly (and this may hurt sales, just like a display window that's entirely black doesn't attract customers)

This is pretty much essential!

Are you using 422 HQ, 422, or 422 LT? 422 HQ is pretty good, try to avoid the other ones. Also make sure that you work in 16bit/channel mode in After Effects, to get the most out of the 10bit/channel that ProRes can do.

The frames you posted are very dark. At first I though they were just black. Is your display accurate? There aren't that many brightness steps so close to black in most codecs, so if your display is boosting that range back up, you get extra banding.

Finally, if still necessary and after you fixed all other problems, you can add a tiny bit of noise to make the last banding go away.  ;)

Banding is horrible with PhotoJPEG especially with ultra clean animations. There are ProRes plugins for Windows just a Google search away, and will solve all your problems.  ;)
I'm on a mac so I can't recommend one, but they're there.

May is becoming my best month ever, if sales continue at this pace.

$37.15 for me

So my sales for April amount to $115.19

I get the email saying I'm being paid $230.38

And then a few hours later I get the new one saying it actually be $115.19. Seems like what everyone else is experiencing, no mystery there, not to worry.

However... my sales for May so far, are $11.70. I then head to the pub, get drunk, chill out, play pool etc etc... and I get back and my balance for May is $116.70.

I've never had such a big jump, or made $105 in a six hour period... so I'm wondering if this is related (it's kind of close to the $115.19 amount), whether I'm imagining it, or if it's some kind of error. Anyone else experience the same?! Thanks!

Edit: Ok, I managed to dig through the ultra-intuitive and amazingly straightforward sales pages and it looks like I sold one clip today for $105. Could be a figment of my imagination, but it's looking pretty real for now. Happy days!

They have an app for contributors which is good for simple sales info.

I have clips that earned me 5k+ directly. But indirectly they are worth even more, because those clips drew customers to similar clips in my portfolio.

Don't sell it for cheap, because it's probably a good clip, exactly what they want, otherwise they won't ask for exclusivity. Make sure they don't want to buy it for resale as stock, that would be like shooting yourself in the foot.

I get mails about this every now and then, most of them (80%) lead to nothing when they realise what custom animations actually cost to make. It's a different market.

66
You can only get meaningful statistics about this if you were to offer the same clip at the same agency in different codecs. Without those 3, all we can do is speculate.

I would buy the highest quality clip I could find, but codec is just one aspect of quality. Content is more important, I'd say.

But it's my professional pride to deliver the best quality I can. And codecs are the easy part, so I upload in prores.

Are you a contributor, buyer, or what is your experience in microstock? Will you do video?

First half of the month was great, last half is pretty much dead. It makes no sense.

I have had 1 sale this year, so if sales continue in this pace 2017 will be my best year ever!  ;D
In other words, don't bother.

Spoofing an email address is very easy, so don't put any trust in that.

When was this? It looks like I didn't get the email.

Irina,
the only people in this forum (or anywhere else) uploading to VH that I know are you and Space Oddity (who will certainly materialise soon).
Never heard about anyone else.
As I said I am trying to give them a shot, but the first taste is really tough: their uploading is brutal and an insult to man intelligence, it dates back from Neanderthal times.
Plus all I read in their forum.
I have no idea how can you batch process their totally insane upload procedure, all I know is that uploading a dozen of files there brought me to strange visions, horrible nightmares and a nervous breakdown, don't know if I will ever recover. The doctor tells me that I should rest for a few months.
Still, if every file I upload there generates several hundreds sales a day, then I might consider going again through the horrible torture

Once upon a time I was a happy person, very much like you. Then I read the VideoHive General File Preparation Guidelines. I developed an itch on the far side of my eyeballs. An itch I just had to scratch, with a pair of nine inch nails.

Over 2016 I averaged around $3.50 per clip per month.
