Don't make simple things complicated with all those conspiracy theories.
Shutterstock is a usual company with a single ultimate goal. Profit. They don't have to build a nice community or make its contributors happy. Those are side effects actually.
Don't take all those recent changes too personal, most likely they will bury themselves under 500 million of crappy images soon. Just keep uploading to different sites like Fotolia or so.

They won't bury themselves because they have pretty good search engine. These are digital goods, not physical. The irrelevant, LCV stuff don't even show, doesn't bother anyone, as if it doesn't even exist.

So I was working exclusively for the microstock industry. Shutterstock alone was sending me more then enough monthly to pay my bills. Now I see the earnings are like 30, 40 % down comparing to last year, and the new images I uploaded lately, they don't sell at all, and I mean 00000! and their quality is really good, similar or even better to older ones that already sold more than 2000 times.
So I had to get another occupation, I just leave the portfolio there and will see it go to insignificant earnings in record time.  :'( it is pointless now to upload there.

So sad...

You mean it's pointless for you. My sales f.e. and $$ is increasing despite uploading a lot less recently, and my new files are selling too.

Actually, if it was my company, I wouldn't be that happy with only a 21% sales increase from a 61% asset increase over the period. Translate those figures to contributors, and it won't be long before many of them chose to bail out.

Yes ... and often new items are low low quality images and vectors ...

It's not a sustainable business model as it currently stands. The 'biggest' library is no longer the best, and buyers, (and contributors), are shifting focus to other smaller, but well curated libraries.

Shutterstock need to put the breaks on how much they approve and refocus on quality. If they continue as they are, by next year they will need to double the library to see 20% profit, then triple it. Contributors won't continue to upload anything of quality if they are not seeing a return, so they will end up only getting submissions of sub par images.

It's not yet 'free fall' but it's a slippery slope.

This whole post is so severely illogical it made me cringe. SS profit % directly connected to their customer base increase / decrease, and customer's spending, not how rapidly they increase their portfolio. The best sellers bringing in 20-50-100 times more money than the average pic, are almost always older files that have been in the system for years now, and they often just keep getting more sales, as they get better relevancy rankings from the sales... so SS actually has little need for new content. The reason they like to increase their stock so much is that the "huge" number is marketing ploy imho. They aim to boast having the largest stock on the planet I guess - and they are right, it is an attractive marketing statement. Imagine hearing that there is a store that has the most good, ever, anywhere.

Q1 + Q2 2015

Earnings: 198.000.000 $
Download: 69.300.000 $
Items (June 2015): 57.200.000 $

Q1 + Q2 2016

Earnings: 240.000.000 $ (+21%)
Download: 84.200.000 $ (+21%)
Items (June 2015): 92.000.000 $ (+61%)

Actually, if it was my company, I wouldn't be that happy with only a 21% sales increase from a 61% asset increase over the period. Translate those figures to contributors, and it won't be long before many of them chose to bail out.

Non-selling (or almost non-selling) contributors bailing out is either meaningless to SS, or a benefit - somewhat less expenses is they delete their stuff. Also those "assets" are digital files. I highly doubt the increase of digital assets in this case raises expenses notably. It's most likely insignificant.

My sales on FT improved a LOT, but it's still far away from SS. Problem is that contribs are drawing world-wide conclusions from smallish, kinda' lcv ports.

Interesting decision. SS warns you personally, and nobody else here gets a warning, your passwords are at risk and your decision is ignore them and do nothing. Is keeping the same password worth that risk?

Because I went a bit further checking and I know what the breach was when it happened and what happened. Actually I did change the password since the "breach", way back, both the email and SS, because it happened in early 2013, and I got a gmail warning of someone logging in to my mailbox from china. It's just that SS found these things in 2016, way later than me. Get it now? :)

61
Thanks for the answers, I actually decided to do nothing now. From as much as I could gather there are webpages and online services that track stolen data, and list emails, accounts, etc that could be affected, and that's where SS take their hint from. It mostly means that someone somewhere claims they have access to your email (stolen password) and they put this access up for sale for fraudster (it's often not true at all, they are just defrauding the fraudsters too).

here is something that might help:

Norway and Switzerland outside and richer hmm that tells me something.

Zimbabwe, Moldova, Pakistan, Albania are also outside. Are they richer because of that? Comparing apples to oranges doesn't make sense.

Japan, China, USA, Brazil, Canada, Russia, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and the list of rich countries not in the EU goes on and on

GDP per capita in the EU (2014): US$ 36,447
GDP per capita World (2014) : US$ 10,738
For your information, more is better.

The British have decided to leave behind the EUSSR, excellent long term decision. The all out smear / shaming campaign was to be expected, also the intentional financial backstabbing as punishment. All of this will just highlight to anyone with some gray matter left in their skulls why this was the right decision, the peon / useful idiot class feel it confirms that it was a bad decision.

nice to see that sites like huffpo call expressions of democray like this as "a stumble / fall / racism", and similarly liberal places are calling for banning the older generation from voting. Good. The true face of so called liberalism is being exposed more and more as history moves forward, while the regressive left walks backwards.

"Toksvig believes that just like Spotify and Netflix made it so easy and cheap to get legal access music and video that piracy wasnt worth the hassle anymore, StockUnlimited will be able to do the same for graphics and photography."

He's right but he's 10 years too late.  iTunes is what made people realize what was legal and what wasn't wirth the hassle and iStock is what made it easy for buyers to license imagery.  Ten years ago.

Complete nonsense, netflix did nothing, there are more torrents f.e. than ever. I remember years ago torrents were often so slow and unreliable many didn't bother with it. Nowadays there is so much content on so many comps, you can downloads things at full speed, so if anything, It juts got a lot bigger. Almost any series (including netflix stuff) is up on torrents in a few hours after release.

Bernie is a bait and switch.

He points to the 1% as the problem but if he gets elected he will tax the stuffing out of everyone but the 1%. Apparently he had his honeymoon in the communist soviet union. It's unbelievable!

The brain boxes will leave the USA.

I can't even fathom how how simple you have to be to think he is less of hypocrite than the rest of the politicians. Bernie The Bomber, posing with killer mike going for the minority vote, and riding phoney nonexistent issues like the gender wage gap. Bernie exposes how ppl are just ultra-mega-giga dupes.

Yes it's competitive in a few sectors of the economy that happens to hire very few people.
You cannot have a 300 million population country based on technology sector.

By the way Boeing just fired more than 4,500 workers.
Unemployment is getting higher and higher, poverty is going up very quickly. It's not working.

There are not enough jobs that require qualification, and no environment encouraging small businesses.
People are sick and tired of cronyism and that's why they're flocking to Trump and Sanders.

As long as China accepts US dollars in exchange for t-shirts, it means they need American products to spend their dollars on (unless they are fine working for free). Creating those american products require better jobs than t-shirt manufacturing, "believe me" (as Trump loves to say, when he doesn't have arguments, lol  :)

These simple economical facts seems to elude the understanding of Trump the economical expert, "believe me"

And all stats shows a rather decent level of unemployment in US compared with other economies, but for Trump even small numbers are HUGE (he said unemployment is 42%, lol)

Trump, Feb. 9: I am going to be the greatest jobs president that God ever created. Remember that. Dont believe those phony numbers, when you hear 4.9 and 5% unemployment.

The numbers probably 28, 29, as high as 35. In fact, I even heard recently 42%. Do you think wed have gatherings like this if we had, if we had 5% unemployment, do you really think wed have these gatherings?

You don't even know the very basics about currencies.

Topol is a breath of fresh air in all this hardcore leftist rhetoric.

Nope.
The truth is that, when you exhale such thoughts, the air is far from being fresh, Mr. Jirinovsky/Putin/Trump fan.
This stench is as old as WWII.

The nazi card - the ultimate escape for hatemongers when they have absolutely no arguments.

btw, do you know who invented this "rethoric" of calling people *, to shut them up when you are loosing an argument? Stalin. That was his advice to his diplomats.

Right. Let's add Stalin to your fan club. Because this is exactly what Trump does these days: calling people *, because he never has facts to back-up his statements...Mr. Jirinovsky/Putin/Trump/Stalin fan

You are the owner fo your n a z i   c a r d, you pulled it, don't try smear that on me, how is that even come up??
You must be living in a bubble with very distorted reflections of yourself, if you don't see the obvious similarities between the 4 "gentlemen" mentioned above. FYI, WWII doesn't only mean extreme nationalism = nazi (despite the indoctrination you might have been subject of, since YOU mentioned it). It means dictatorship, either fascist or communist. It means autocratic "beloved" leaders. It means loss of liberties and freedom. It means police state. It means war.

It means fear.

Or pretty much everything Trump stands and preys for.

Sent from my SM-N910T using Tapatalk

Communism didn't start with WWII, at least get your basic history right before you go off an uneducated rant. Marx published "the ideology" around 1840, USSR formed in 1922... so the rest is jut nonsense, the dictatorial political force that started the war was the *, nobody else. Tipical, the one who knows next to nothing about what he's talking about is the first to throw around "indoctrination" :)

On the same page: Trump is the most anti war candidate next to Bernie... and this meme of comparing him to na z i s , hitler, was invented by marketing ppl hired by the big money establishment, targetting the most unreasonable, emotion driven, angry leftist voters.

Its pretty bad when your own party does not want you in there. Trump can buy anything he wants.. I think it is another thing he wants to buy. He has been a politician type of person all his life. I think Hilary will make him look bad in the debates. Will be interesting and the entire thing has been a circus. How embarrassing for the USA. SMH

Trump isn't, never was, and never will be an actual republican. You just happen have a bit of a narrow choice in the USA if one of your agendas is doing away with political correctness. :) He is destroying the 100% percent corrupt GOP 100% intentionally. You ppl need to grow eyes, form what I'm reading here... yeah, and brains too :))

The U.S. media wants Trump to be elected; it's the political story of a lifetime.  To that end they've given him 10 times the coverage of other candidates - free of charge.  And they'll continue playing ball with him until the election - by running soft-pitch stories like "Trump refuses to back down" instead of going after his ridiculous and inconsistent statements.

But if Trump somehow manages to get elected, that all changes and the media sets out to bring him down.  That's when they'll start to pull all the skeletons out of the closet, and go for his blood.  They'll do their best to push it all the way to impeachment.  It won't be pretty.  Chaos and conflict is what they want, what they sell, and what they know how to create.

Really? Have you read huffpo for example nowadays? How is saying that Trump incites violence, will get someone killed at his rallies, is part of the mob so he should be banned, or this note et the end of each Trump article: "Editor's note: Donald Trump is a serial liar, rampant xenophobe, racist, misogynist, birther and bully who has repeatedly pledged to ban all Muslims - 1.6 billion members of an entire religion - from entering the U.S."... is "playing ball with him" ? :)

Playing ball with Trump doesn't mean you're for, or against, him, politically.  It means you give him free publicity that reinforces his image, and you make money by doing it.   Huffington Post churns out  over-the-top political correctness, exaggerating what Trump actually says.  Then they sell the outrage, and Trump gets another soft pitch to hit out of the park.   This is followed by more "Trump refuses to back down" and "Trump stands by his remarks" headlines.  And his numbers go up.

Here's part of what Les Moonves, CEO of CBS, said to an investor gathering in January:
Ive never seen anything like this, and this is going to be a very good year for us. Sorry. Its a terrible thing to say. But, bring it on,  Donald. Keep going."

No, playing ball does mean you are for someone. Few links just to keep away from infinite BS:

http://www.dictionary.com/browse/play--ball

http://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/play-ball

http://idioms.thefreedictionary.com/play+ball

Trump doesn't get any soft pitches, he just refuses to quit. No one ever got attacked as viciously from all possible mainstream sides as him. If that's a soft pitch for you, I don't what's the hard one.
