Actually, it IS the algorithm. Yes, having your pictures knocked down is natural, but not all of them at once... One goes down, you upload 20 more pics that week and you'll probably be fine, because one of those 20 has to sell well and will replace the picture that went down. But when 9 pictures go down at the same time, how many do you have to upload that week to still keep your earnings at the same level?
Nothing is selling anymore on SS. I went to 0 sales days again. When I made this topic I said that I'm probably going to have 40 sales this month, but even that was optimistic.
Anyway, I didn't make this topic to whine and annoy everyone. I guess I just needed some words of encouragement because I literally felt like crying when the sales took that dramatic course. Even though I'm young, I don't have much hope for normal employment due to some health problems, and microstock allows me to work when I'm feeling ok, not to say that taking pictures is my hobby. And suddenly seeing everything go to hell after so much work was a big blow.
Yes, I know, things like these happen in microstock. It happened before, it's just that the situation now was much much worse than before. You can't just ignore a 80% drop in sales and go on. But I guess I have to try to do it anyway.
Thanks to everyone who replied.

I worked like a maniac for almost an year to create 300 good images. Around 200 were accepted by SS. After a lot of stress, uploading, rejections, failures, I started at last to have 100 downloads a month. I finally felt motivated to upload more. I had around 10 pictures on the first popular pages which brought constant income.
Then SS did whatever they did with the search and only 1 of those 10 pictures is still on the first page ( but almost at the bottom ). My downloads dropped and I'll probably have only 40 downloads this month ( from 100 ), and that's only because the first half of the month was still on the old algorithm.
What can you do in this situation? When an entire year of hard work just goes to hell one night?

I barely sell 2-3 pictures a month there if I'm lucky

I have around 150 clips on Fotolia, Shutterstock and Pond5. NEVER had a sale on Shutterstock and Pond5, which is driving me crazy, considering I started all this almost an year ago. I do sell clips every month on Fotolia though, so someone needs my clips in the end. I really don't understand. If I sell 1-2 clips on Fotolia every month, I was expecting to have at least one sale on SS&Pond5 in an year, but still nothing...

Why would someone consider it's the end of microstock? It's more like a good time for microstockers, because it means less competition. I'm not personally excited about it though, I don't create the kind of images that he did and never will.

I have around 200 images. But why is it different with other websites? That's what is killing me. From 30 dowloads on Fotolia more than half are singles but for 80 on SS all of them are subs?

I find it a bit weird that at most agencies I have a lot of single downloads each month, but never had one on Shutterstock even though I'm selling a lot more pictures there. Let's take the main agencies for the last month.
Fotolia: 11 single downloads and 17 subscriptions Dreamstime: 5 single downloads and 4 subscriptions Shutterstock: 80 subscription downloads and...that's all.
Why is this? I was expecting to have a lot of singles for that sales volume...

I have a picture like that as well - it's an image of corn, nothing special, but for some reason it had many sales after uploading it and now it's on the first page! And that is something, considering there are 1241 pages for the "corn" keyword. So yeah, it's sometimes just about luck. This picture sells almost everyday, sometimes even 4 times a day. And it's even more funny because I was really close to not uploading it. I wasn't expecting it to sell because there are thousand of corn pictures... Edit: btw, this picture makes around 15 dollars a month. If it continues to sell like this it will make almost 200 dollars an year, which I don't think is bad for just one picture! A CORN PICTURE

Mine gets 1-2 downloads everyday, even 4 sometimes. It was accepted at the end of March and sold 34 times until now.

I had a bad day yesterday indeed, but I'm not sure it's related to that holiday. My sales on SS are always like this: brilliant day -> bad day -> brilliant day -> bad day.
And I checked and my best selling pics are still on the front page, thanks god!

I made some pretty videos last time it snowed, but I'm not quite sure when it's the best to upload them. I know people upload winter pictures in autumn or so, but what about videos?

I just got this mail: "Thank you for requesting access into Offset. I'm excited to share that your invitation will be arriving in the next few weeks."
Is this a generic message that everyone who applied received?

Wow, I hate it when I drop my camera >< Unfortunately I never hit it so badly! My worst day...hmmm...I can't find something THAT bad, but last Wednesday was my worst day ever since I got started in microstock. At the end of last month I started selling a lot of pics ( my sales almost tripled! ) I was so hyper about it and finally felt like I was doing something right in this business. The sales were crazy for weeks! And then last Wednesday...0 sales! I know ups and downs are to be expected in microstock but it was a pretty big blow for me. I was expecting a bad period to follow, but I thought that sales will only decrease a little, not disappear! And the funny thing is, the 0 sales day came after a day which was my best day ever. Cruel fate is making fun of me

It makes me so sad to hear this...I never had a sale on Alamy but I was so hoping to have one soon. I can't even imagine what would I do if I finally have one and then they refund it

I wouldn't call it easy money because you get money without working, but if you like what you do, it WILL be easy money even if you work your ass off for it. I know I spend sleepless nights shooting and editing, and often go to bed with my eyes hurting from so much concentrating on the screen. But I still call it easy money, because it's the only thing I enjoy doing. Let's say I'd work at an office where I'd get even more money and the job would be easier. I wouldn't call that easy money, because I'd curse my life everyday while doing it.

I agree with the people that say the prices are too low. I have a lot of textures in my portfolio and would be happy to upload them to you website, but not for these prices...I've had enough of websites paying you nothing for your work.

I really don't know what to believe and what to do. People say queues are huge and that new files doesn't sell at all. My files are usually in queue for 1 week and most of the new files sell. All the files that are selling like crazy are files which were accepted in the last 3 weeks! Maybe it's different for me because I'm a new member? ( but why would it be? ) Even so, I panicked and stopped uploading for the moment >< I have a really big batch to upload and if things suddenly become bad I'd curse SS forever.

I have around 200 pictures on 123RF and had 4 or 5 sales until now. Had 0 sales for months, I only started selling after I uploaded a batch of 70 pics, so they really do reward quantity...

Hm...I wonder what's wrong with my portfolio. I sell more files even on Canstock...
How many images are in your port and what are you shooting?
I have about 300 images. I shoot people, food, medical stuff, concepts, isolated objects and famous places in my country which are not so well covered by others. I'm seeing constant sales on SS, Fotolia and Canstock, decent sales on Deposit and 123RF and 1 or 2 sales per month on Dreamstime...it's a huge difference if I compare it with the other websites.
