iStockPhoto.com / Re: istock sales for new contributors
« on: May 09, 2013, 04:35 »
I think it just takes time to sell on istock. I joined istock 6 months ago and just sold two photos last week and I only have 8 photos uploaded to istock. I wasn't sure if I wanted to stay with them, so that's why the small amount of uploads.
I have a few hundred uploaded on other sites, for example on Pocketstock close to 200, no sales.
I would say keep with it and upload to istock, even though there upload system is crap. You will get sales, just give it time.

:o I usually complain about Fotolia, however, today I am shocked. Submitted 15 photo the other day and 13 out of 15 where accepted  ??? Go figure!

On my last upload I got 100% acceptation at Alamy (new agency for me)
You do realize that on Alamy it is either 100% approved or 100% failed?  And they do not care at all what you upload as long as the image meets their technical requirements.

Alamy has a far superior system! Most microstock companies that reject good photos are crazy!
Sell them on Alamy, better pay. How do these companies know what clients are looking for? By previous sales?
Most of what I sell on Alamy has been rejected on other sites. Don't get me wrong I make money on micro sites which adds up but when you sell a photo that has been rejected and sold on Alamy and you get $5, $20 or even $100 or more for that one sale it's a good feeling.

Foltolia is a strange company when accepting photos. About two weeks ago I submitted 40 photos to 8 different companies and had between 37-40 accepted on all eight, except Foltolia, they accepted 4. WTH!
I might take them off my list of submissions, because of the last 40 photos I have sold 16 different ones so far and they reject so many and it's too much effort for the BS!

Buona Sera, m.panzarella,
Come Va?  Mi piace il tuo nuovo sito :) Vi auguro buona fortuna con esso.
My Italian is not very good anymore, so I hope I got that right. I hope to add some photos soon.
Ciao Ciao

Alamy.com / Re: Alamy launches NEW site !
« on: April 11, 2013, 13:05 »
Alamy has done a great job and is still my favorite site for adding photos! If the photo is good, low noise and no artifacting then it's good to go. No BS of the other sites like istock, Dreamstime, Fololia etc claiming bad composition and so on and who determines that?
Here is a good one from Dreamstime:
(Poor lighting due to lighting conditions (wrong time of day, dull skies, harsh shadows etc.) and/or camera limitations / Poor contrast or incorrect exposure.)
The photo was rejected on Dreamstime, Fotolia, Graphic Leftovers and a few others, it was taken in my studio so I don't know where the dull skies come into play.
The photo was accepted on Alamy and has sold 3 times since March 16th 2013 and has made a little over $600 which half goes to me. Not bad for a crap photo according to the companies that I would have made a dollar fifty from.
So thumbs up to Alamy!

GraphicLeftovers? I would hope they don't end up in the top 3!

I actually liked doing business with GL for a time. But when you deal with top and middle tier companies who are very busy and they take the time to get back to you when you email them with a question and a low tier company like GL takes a month to get back to you with an email that makes no sense I feel their professionalism suffers.
I won't get into detail, however, the answer I got back was, "No, we at GL are too busy to answer all emails in detail" I would hate to see a company that treats its photographer like that get promoted. Just my opinion and my observation. Hope you are being treated better if you are promoting them.

Maybe it is time to crush the istock empire! Literally put them out of business and end their madness. Stop contributing and pull your photos off their site, see how fast they do a 180!
If you know of a remedy to cure the Stockholm Syndrome it might work. Otherwise, it will be an impossible project.

Difficult, yes! Impossible, No. I don't have remedy unfortunately :(

As crappy as this was handled, I believe it will end up a true "blessing in disguise" for you, Sean.  You will definitely be back up and running with other agencies in no time!

It is a shame they stooped to such lows but Getty seems to think they are "too big to fail."  I believe they will find they are sorely mistaken.

You are absolutely right! However, istock is not too big to fail.

Old or new, I find their site a pain. I cant get any model releases attached in batches, not can I batch edit some fields that I want to change. So no go unless they get their act together.

Trying to get a model release attached period, is enough for anyone to look elsewhere to upload photos.

Thanks again jsnover  ;) I heard something about Bigstock and SS being related. Yes, I am a member of SS and funny thing, the the photos SS accepted, Bigstock rejected  ??? Maybe they are looking for diversity. Oh well, I am having a blast getting back to full speed in my photography again and having fun with the uploads.  8) Have a great weekend.

Thanks for the info jsnover,  ;) I just submitted 3 more to istockphoto and got accepted  8) My friend looked at a few photos and picked out three he said istockphoto would like and they did.
I am getting to understand most companies, except for Bigstock, they reject better than 80% when all other except better than 80%, I guess just live and learn.

I recently joined istockphoto by the request of a fellow photographer friend who told me istockphoto is the best.
Well I submitted my best 3 photo sellers I used on a few other sites only to get rejected by istockphoto.
Maybe their reviewers need a refresher course  :-\
