CanStockPhoto.com / Re: Where is Canstock?
« on: November 07, 2014, 05:33 »
As far as my experience goes, Canstock shows a downward slide both in review times (which used to be fast but now they seem to drag endlessly) and in sales as well.

Wondering where are they heading !

My images don't seem to come up in the Inimagine search today.  They were there two days ago, even though I was opted out from the 123RF API reseller program since many months.  It looks like they have removed them from Inimagine now.

That's great, congratulations!

I opted out of 123RF API reseller option many months ago.  Dismayed to find that my images are selling (even a minute ago) from the Inimagine site.  :(

Well, 123RF make up your mind - are they your same company OR API resellers???  They can't be both depending on your convenience!

At the very least, and as a faith-restoring measure, it would suit you best to add credit at the 123RF commission rate for all sales made at Inimagine where contributors have been underpaid up to now.  Once the past mess has been cleared up - provide the contributors with a clear option to opt in or out from Inimagine, just as you do for all API reseller sites.  At the time we upload to 123RF it is with the trust (Hah!) and belief that our work is handled with due respect.  Please don't punish us for backing and supporting your business with our work !

I got the letter too and am happy to go along with the proposal.  Maybe it will help to get sales moving.  :)

As we all know SEO can have pretty significant impact on search response function.  And, limited as I am with my own direct knowledge on this topic, would be happy if someone who knows more would test out alternative wording.  If it works thats great! If it doesn't, well, I honestly feel I wouldn't be losing too much.

Hi Sanjay,

Our review time has blown out recently and images are taking at least a month to go through.  If you're not satisfied with that and would like to leave it until we're better prepared, I can delete your images for you and deactivate your contributor account.  We understand review time is important for contributors, but while we're setting up our business and processes, it's not our top priority.

Having already spent the time/ effort to upload the first batch (75 test images), it would not make very much sense for me to opt for deletion.

Please therefore let them be for the moment.

Now that I know there are teething issues, which preclude Canva's ability to process uploads in reasonable time-frame, I can simply stop uploading further content till such time as things get streamlined on your side.

Best luck getting the site up and running smoothly!

Yes, wonder what's going on at Canstockphoto?? Review times have lengthened a lot.  Furthermore since last few days Uploads doesn't seem to work.  Coming on top of the meagre sales they produce, its the limit!!

Uploaded 75 test images to Canva - and they remain In Review after couple of weeks.

When unloading I was given to understand that they would be on line in 4 or 5 days, but I guess that boat has long sailed.

I understand that while images are In Review I am unable to edit title/ keywords etc, attach model release and so on.  So I guess I should wait patiently till someone gets around to doing the review !  ???

My DT sales are sinking, and how!  Led by subscription sales the RPD has tanked as compared to last year, not leaving too much optimism for the future.

DT was an agency that seemed to work the RPD in an upward direction, rewarding images as they ascended up in sales.  But subs seem to have taken over.  Today uploading to them brings no joy - they dont get me  enough volume at the sub rate to justify returns on time and work. And they don't get RPD as they did before.  Regrettably it may soon be an agency not worth uploading to anymore :(

Ok, thanks very much!  :) I'll try that with future uploads.

I have not uploaded any model releases yet, simply because couldn't find the way to do that.

Also it would be difficult to have the same file name (with the word release added) because, one release can apply to many images of same model/s.  Or maybe I'm just not getting it?  Canva seems to have a different type of upload system and it would help to have more clear upload instructions posted on the site.

Facing some challenges uploading to Canva.  I am getting my portfolio up, but the side buttons (such as Edit) does not respond. I therefore am not able to edit text/ keywords, or attach model releases etc.

Is there something that I'm doing incorrectly here?

 :)

CanStockPhoto.com / Re: No sales in CanStockPhoto

Canstock have pathetic sales on my portfolio.  Cant understand why I've continued to waste my time uploading there   :(

The Fotosearch tie-up came with such big hopes on the contributor side few years ago.  But, with the kind of sales I usually get on Canstock, its a non-issue.

Thanks, I just sent you your FTP credentials.  Welcome aboard.

We haven't finalised the prices around our other license types yet, but we have no lock in, so if you don't like it you're free to vote with your images.  Obviously we'll do all we can to ensure you like it!

Thanks very much Lee.  Appreciate the professionalism and fast, clear response.

Wish you and Canva great success!

Hope to contribute at Canva in near future.  This is certainly a business idea with a difference - and was pleasantly surprised to see the professional look of the website.  Haven't explored it all yet but liked the 'feel' and the user friendly set up.

At the moment it offers the one use license.  Would be curious to see what rates and terms come around for RF, extended/ multi use licenses etc.

 :)

Other avenues are starting to look much more attractive to make a buck or two :)

What avenues are you considering?

On the photography side have increased focus to commissioned work.  One or two additional bookings seem to cover what I make on stock!!

The way things are going this question could be turned around to - Are you considering staying with any agency?  :-\

Sound negative but hey! contributors seem to have gotten kicked around by so many agencies that I've lost count by this time.  Meanwhile I've stopped uploading to those that lowered sales way too far, or seemed to put my work at risk - as I had no control over their so-called partners, affiliates etc (with no opt outs given).  I have either taken down images or stopped uploads (usually both) to Depositphotos, Bigstock, Alamy, Veer and opted out of partner site from every other agency where I could, such as 123RF.

Also, regrettably, my volume of micro stock uploads have overall decreased in last year!  It starts to feel so pointless with the way content is managed, and the perpetual decline in RPI and sales.

Other avenues are starting to look much more attractive to make a buck or two :)

Alamy.com / Re: 40% distributor commission
« on: September 13, 2014, 14:29 »
In the past year my sales on Alamy were so dismal that I stopped uploading any new content there!!  And the rates seemed to drop pretty dramatically as well.  This site is just not worth uploading for me as a  contributor.

Pond5 / Re: Do you think Pond5 is going to be a leader?
« on: September 13, 2014, 14:24 »
I like Pond5 for their contributor approach and am happy to support them despite the low sales (on stills) - but just wish that the site functioning was much better.  Uploading is a clumsy process there in my experience.

General Stock Discussion / Re: ezMediArt

"You set the price for your media. Buyers pay what you want them to pay, and you can change the price of your items whenever you like.
You keep 70 percent commission on all sales; unheard of and unbeatable in the stock industry.
You receive monthly payments with no minimum of earning."

Oooh, I like that, good start!
Is it really for free??

Yes that part about setting your own price and collecting 70% sounds good  :).  However I just want to find someone who has experience with them to know what this is really all about.  Guess I'm just sick of spending hours and hours uploading to sites that end up showing pathetic sales at the end..

DT and SS - two of my top performers in past years are both shrinking in recent some months.  August was somewhat of a disaster on both!!

Maybe I'm doing something wrong - or maybe the whole market is topsy turvy - or maybe micro stock is finally in its death pangs.. a little more time should tell !!

Photo Critique / Re: Are these photos good enough?
« on: August 17, 2014, 07:31 »
Don't take all that negative critique too hard :)  Most of it is good advise and well-meant ..

And, even if these images get accepted, a very valid question is if they will sell?

A good starting point is to look at Best selling image categories on couple of stock sites.  That gives a good idea of the quality and the type of content that can get sales.

Not to be discouraging .. but its harder and harder to make a reasonable return from even good stock photography these days.  Be ready for a very tough commitment and lots of time if you want to seriously see returns from stock in these times.

I'm seeing some real drop off in sales at DT as well in some recent months.

Hope there's others that are doing better there ...

I got this email too and have been wondering what DACS is all about and whether there's a downside to filling the form.  Lucky I caught this thread :)

Guess the only viable option is to fill the form they sent .. and dream about forthcoming riches   ;D
