Dreamstime.com / Ending exclusivity delay
« on: December 28, 2015, 13:36 »
Is it common to experience a delay in ending exclusivity? I understand the 30-day notice, but in my case it took several days and emails back and forth for them to acknowledge what I was saying and they are counting from that time instead of from the time I initially said I wanted to end exclusivity.  :o

I think there is still a great need for current photos.  I did a search for business people on one site recently and, sure, there are pages upon pages, but mostly with dated clothing, hair styles, etc and/or using dated equipment.  So, in some ways the  field is really saturated but in other ways there will always be a need for updated photos.  Unless, of course, the customers that care enough about what they buy give up on the microstock model altogether due to the massive portfolios that are usually not well-controlled to prevent key word spamming.

Bad, bad 52% if you count all my failed attempts with the 8/10 standard.  Since I got accepted, it is 74%.  Not great, but better.

Nobody else seems to have replied so I'll give it a go...

Best of luck....

Thanks for the info and the luck :-)

I find it really hard to caption editoral for IS to get accepted....so hard in fact I gave up
Thanks for the feedback.  That is what I am considering after only my first submission.   I know I can get these online and sold elsewhere.  I don't see the sense to spending a lot of time messing with upload procedures when the business is so heavily volume-based.

I am new there too.   It looks like my first batch took 8 days.  I used lightburner and images were supposed to be uploaded to the pending queue since I am exclusive with another agency til the end of the month.  So I was surprised they were reviewed at all.  Thankfully, all were rejected as they are editorial.  I am now trying to work out how to batch upload editorial images-which are currently over 90% of my new work.  Sometimes I wonder why any of us bother with this blasted image give-away business at all.

iStockPhoto.com / FTP editorial only photos to istock?
« on: December 18, 2015, 11:27 »
I have a large batch of policitical photos I would like to FTP to istock, but they will only qualify as editorial.  Is there a way to do this?  I am finally accepted and have a few hundred photos of presidential candidates to upload.  I had uploaded many through lightburner and couldn't find a way to mark them editorial only.  The delete function on the site doesn't seem to work in this browser (will try another one later.)  So, I have received my first batch of rejections and am "looking forward" to several more large batches.   Is acceptance ratios important at istock?

I see how to upload these one on one.  For microstock prices, that is not a good use of my time.  Is there a way to upload a batch to mark for editorial only?  Or to edit the ones I have already uploaded to "editorial only?"

Also, the rejection email mentioned releases for "inside locales."  Do I need a property release to sell these on istock?  I had press creds for most of them but no release from the venue.

I feel like an "oldie" asking "newbie" questions-but I find it hard to locate any answers to any questions I have on the istock site.  Any help from the community here is greatly appreciated.

I have made $35,000 on Alamy.
Then I will certainly leave them on my list to give them a try once my exclusivity with another agency runs.

It's a joke right?
I don't think so.  I got accepted about a week ago with 4 rejections and 6 acceptances.  I was so happy....I still am, but not as much.

And here I thought I was something special because I finally got in with 6/10 approved.   :o

I have deleted keywords on many of my first uploads, hoping to improve their relevancy placements.  It's not always a question of adding more keywords, better to carefully target them to potential buyers and how they will search.

I had 6 or 8 selected.  All but one were level 0s, meaning no sales for several months.  The other had 1 sale.  I don't see a huge risk in letting these be used for a test program-they are generating $0 for me now.

It's unfortunate there is so much info not released, but that is probably because the potential partner new it wouldn't be kept confidential, so I get it.

It seems to me the stock industry needs to move to new business models and that is going to take some experimentation.

My only complaint is the tone of the email was over the top with flattery.   I would have appreciated a more matter of fact presentation.

They have a clear preference for certain styles, as others have mentioned. People that can get that style down seem to do really well and others really poorly.   Almost everything I send them is rejected, and when they accept something it is usually not up to the technical quality of the ones I upload elsewhere.   For example, one of the isolations they accepted has blown highlights and poorly done isolation.   It is also my best seller there.   I am still a beginner to stock, but have a much better acceptance and sales at DT.  Still trying to qualify for IS and SS, which has been a great learning experience for me!
