iStockPhoto.com / Re: Nippyish note from Rebecca Rockafellar
« on: December 08, 2012, 12:39 »
Yawn... that note at iStock sounded like the usual corporate mumbo jumbo. They could have been on the brink of bankruptcy and it still would have been: "We're number one and are looking forward to a fantastic record breaking 2013!"

Yes, the best match is broken. Many searches give you really poor results and it's unbelievable that they haven't fixed it yet.

It's been confirmed by an administrator in the iStock forum: "The issue is still being actively explored and yes, there is definitely something wrong. Once we get more information, we should be able to provide an update."

There has been a huge change in the best match since that was written, in the last 2ish days. I'm not saying all the problems have been fixed, but most of my usual searches have changed considerably in that timeframe.

Ok, that's good to hear. I hope they'll have it back to normal very soon.

Here we go with the royalty bug again. Maybe it's time to sue iStock.

Seeing top sellers at iStock mentioning that sales are all of sudden down with 30-50% since the september update is not very encouraging... :( I really hope it's because of the malfunctioning best match system and not because buyers are leaving (and now they're probably leaving anyway because they can't find what they're looking for with the broken best match...).

My sales would have been down with around 50% too, but a few of my new files have sold really well which has compensated for the loss. Lucky me.

iStockPhoto.com / "Credit" button gone
« on: November 19, 2012, 17:39 »
For a short while the price at iStock was only showed in USD. The credit button was gone. I logged in and the credits button where there again. Logged out and it was still there. Very mysterious indeed. :)

Did anyone else see it? Doesn't seem like a possible browser error to me.

Stats haven't updated for me either but I've seen long delays before.

I agree that you get the feeling that they're just trying to stay alive instead of fixing and improving things. My hope is that they're currently working on a brand new site, written from scratch. So as a nice christmas present we'll get a brand new iStock that is bug free, super fast and with instant and reliable download/stats updates.

But I guess you shouldn't hope too much. :P

Wow. So they're actually looking for new programmers and developers? So maybe some heads are rolling after all? That's a little hopeful I guess. But maybe it's too late...  :-\

Also getting 503 all the time. It's happened before and usually goes away quite quickly. Still annoying though.

I really hope they'll rebuild the whole site from scratch sometime in the near future. I can't believe that the management are tolerating all the technical problems at iStock.

Also, a moderator on the iStock forum has confirmed that the search is messed up at the moment.

That's 'news'? I'd have thought it would be 'news' if iStock ever actually got their website working correctly. I'd be absolutely stunned if that should ever happen. It would be one of those moments that you could tell your grandchildren "I was there when, ever so briefly, iStock actually worked properly ..."

This thread is about the best match change, which turned out not to be a best match change but just another bug, which was a relief to know.

But of course I agree with you. I'm exclusive at iStock so nobody would be happier than me if things were fixed over there. It's hard to tell if it's because of poor management or incompetence among the staff that there are so many problems. Possibly both.

It would be absolutely fantastic if they could just hire a well reputed web agency with experience in building really complex systems (financial insitution web sites etc.) and rebuild the whole site from scratch, creating the most reliable and fastest microstock site in the business. If anyone can afford such an investment it's iStock. But I guess the greedy CEOs at the top would rather see maximum short term profits instead of investing for a better future.

I would also love to see prices lowered, collections (the Agency, E+, Vetta madness that are just confusing everyone...) removed and the same price for exclusive and non-exclusive files. It REALLY worries me that they seems compensate the decrease in sales by rising prices all the time. That's a great way to kill a business completely...

My sales yesterday was about 40% of what they usually are on a weekday. If that's because of the new moronic best match change I'm in BIG trouble... microstock is my only income and I can't afford a 60% cut.
