Bigstock.com / Bigstock and model releases
« on: April 12, 2017, 20:29 »
For the most part bigstock and I get along. When it comes to model releases though it's another story. I'll use one for 2 years no problem, then all of a sudden it's no goo. I have had them retroactively deactivate images using a model release that it have used for years. Anyone else have issues with them and random denials regarding releases?

As humor my last issue was on a self release. They had issues with not having a witness on my own release for me to use my own images. So I wrote up this little release and they took it. Woder how long this will last though

Been hearing that for years, quit submitting to them because of that and their horrible old system.

Even with that my earnings have gone up.

I would say it's worth it for me to put some more images on their

Franky Thank you. I feel like an idiot now though as I missed something so simple stupid, but again thank you much

Sammy, don't be an ass :p. While this agency only has 1/4 of my images on there it is still switches between fotolia for my second biggest earner every month. Money I can u use. Greedy or not it pays the bills.

It happens. Had one a little over 200 for a ingle once. Have no idea why but hey its money

It's not just the original poster. My account has also been closed as well.

No payment of any funds that where in the account has been made AND my images are still available for license.

How can they still sell images and profit when they closed my account so have no way to compensate me.

rather then DMCA the person who runs the site why not DMCA the actual host?
https://www.cloudflare.com/abuse/form

MAny host it seems if they get enough DMCA request for a specific person will then push the person off and make them find another host. You also might be a able to DMCA the registar as well though I'm not sure how that would work.

« on: August 16, 2016, 18:35 »
Just curious of how many of you that are complaining about how you need to prove that you actually have permission to shoot at the event have actually tried to get permission? Reason I ask is so far I've had good luck. Usually not a huge amount of energy is used either finding or asking for credentials either.
Now granted I did get rejected at some places due to no "assignment" from a media outlet. I have since created my own website and my success rate has gone up quite a bit since then. It's actually better then it ever was when working with SS and their "On the Red Carpet" program they used to run.

Now the only thing is credentials are only required really if it is an event with restricted access. You know private property, requires tickets to get in stuff like that, or if it is a free open to the public event and you are shooting from a restricted area location. Think free concert but shooting from the pit. If it is a free and open to the public event email [email protected] let them know they usually will give you a case number to reference. Have done this many times due to some of the events I cover that are public access but since they are sporting events SS balks at first.

59
Think though of the possible implications of if they don't react strongly.
At that point couldny that open up SS for liability if they continued to sell the image after being notified of copyright infringement. It's much the same as any normal dmca notice. Remove the possible infringing file to limit liability per the dmca and then investigate from there. And even if it's a case of obvious they are full of the what fell out of the back side of a cow they are going to do some sort of investigation so they have that paper trail showing they did look into it hence asking the artist in question. Plus it is also following the dmca by giving way to allow the artist to counter which is what is required to at least take SS out if the loop of liability. You gave counter notice now SS can legally put the image back up and liability now falls on you not them

I've had a semi similar experience once as well http://www.microstockgroup.com/shutterstock-com/weird-compaling-from-shutterstock-someone-else-is-claiming-my-images/
Person claimed I took their face and merged it with someone else's body. Thankfully for me I was both photog and the model so it was easy to fix.

If you are curious though ask them for the reference if they are claiming you copy.  Hopefully they provide it to you so you can compare.

« on: July 12, 2016, 16:21 »
microstockphoto while that would of been interesting to see that, it wasn't. of all things to be known for it's me grabbing my nips in a santa hat. the shame.

the image in question is this one http://www.shutterstock.com/pic.mhtml?id=119084671 which in my opinion to be honest isn't worth the amount paid on it, but guess it also goes to show it might be worthwhile to put up your images even if they might not be ones you consider that good as you never know what the buyer wants.

jo ann on the link you provided it does put a limit on enhanced at 120 max. I know though don't question SS direct as the money can always go away.

« on: July 12, 2016, 13:32 »
What happened? I thought the highest SS paid out for an image was around 118 bucks or so on the highest tier but just woke up this morning and saw that I have a single enhanced image that sold for 215.46.
Trust me not complaining but what happened?

63
I don't really want to be known as that guy :p but I will take the money if it presents itself.

Just hope that I don't walk into a job interview though as I'm going to be without a job soon (no not due to the pictures they are closing the whole center down) and they look at me and go "hey I know you."

That's the thing. You may well need a few cents just now, but are you really sure you will never, ever want a professional job or public role where that photo could come back to haunt you?

Don't plan on taking any public servant job's and as far as my professional jobs, I work in a  call center. That's most of what I plan on doing is staying in the call center. Don't plan or have the education to get a higher level job, so at least right now I'm okay with it and don't forsee me having future issues other then maybe some interesting moments if a coworker see's the image. So far though most people don't put the santa nips and me together as the same person which works out well.

Semmick Photo so far most agencies have accepted the above images. The one that made me wonder the most was fotolia after they went through and approved about 20 images real quick and then sat on this one for about 2 weeks. I'm guessing they had a what . do we do with this picture moment. Though I did get a couple that denied through shutterstock along the same lines. It's ok to lick your TP but not okay to take a bite out of it. That's considered objectionable :p

64
Well just a follow up, and yes I know it's been two years since the last post. So far I've had right at 400 downloads of this image. Alone. It's actually pushed me into releasing a couple others that I did from that same time and even they are selling. As I'm sure you can imaging the downloads don't really start kicking in till around September and then carry through till December. Between this one and two other pictures I have of me grabbing my overweight nips with no shirt on I've made little over 600 bucks. Not great but look at the picture. It's a 5 second chop job and has one of the best ROI of any of the images in my port. I've found it being used on anything from Christmas cards, shirts, posters, and even a Christmas mug for mom.

I've actually pushed it a little just to see first if the stock agencies would accept it, then second if it would sell because of the above. This has come from that test.

This won't sell right? Some guy sitting on the john licking his TP. Very first day it sold. Been selling slowly from there and if it is anything like what I've seen with other images is the more it sells the higher it ranks and then it sells even better yet.

No it's not glamorous, respectful, fancy, or anything of the sort. But it does help pay the rent or the car payment and shows something I never would of thought of listening to people here and other forums. Stock buyers are some weird people and have weird taste.

Never underestimate your buyer. You never know who they might be or what they want. Might as well cover all bases.

65
It's a crap shoot with the program. Sometimes it works and sometimes your request go into a big black hole. What agitates me with it is I can sit talk to the PR person and get everything setup and the only thing they need is just the assignment and I'm good to go at which point I have to turn to shutterstock and it goes into a black hole at that point.
Usual strategy is to try to get into the concert first myself. If I can do so great I'm set. If that doesn't work and they need the assignment I turn to the on the red carpet program and hope that the black hole isn't working today, cause then it's great and I love it.
But is it worth it to try? hell yes it is cause really at the end of the day if they say no, or ignore you what are you really out? smidge of time and a simple email. If you get a yes you save who knows how much on tickets and access to an event and a location that chances are you can't acess otherwise, plus you earn money on top of that :-)

66
SS does not accept PD images.

I really want to hear an official answer... No, or Yes under certain conditions.

http://submit.shutterstock.com/faq.mhtml#Does%20Shutterstock%20accept%20Public%20Domain%20content?

No.

But at the same time NASA public domain pictures are ok
http://www.shutterstock.com/buzz/legal/stock-photo-restrictions

"NASA (including Visible Earth)
An online catalog of NASA images and animations.
Submitted content that incorporates NASA elements/imagery must contain the following text in the title:  Elements of this image furnished by NASA"

Yet in the same posting they put
"Public Domain Content
We do not accept public domain content, including but not limited to scans of or head-on photographs of public domain artwork. We also do not accept public domain footage."

What makes NASA stuff ok but the rest of the PD content not? don't get me wrong I would like them to keep the ability to use NASA images just seems weird to me.

67
Nope I've been online the whole time and still selling my images :)

68
Alright seems the issue is mostly resolved at this point.

For those of you curious this is the guy that is claiming the image are of him

Shutterstock.com / Re: Reviewers went crazy
« on: December 14, 2013, 23:15 »
Used to have a fairly decent acceptance rate as well through shutterstock. Now I just submitted a batch and had everything rejected which has not been the norm for me. I have had rejected due to the signature that someone uses which is nothing more then their printed name, and editorial image didn't include a model release and a property release, to the models shirt wasn't ironed, and that an image of someone grabbing their hair pulling their hair and pulling it out while screaming was not attractive as it was lit from in front and below the model.

Yes some of the rejections I'll admit deserved it. I was sloppy and screwed the pooch so to speak, others I can see depending upon the reviewer, but others I'll say that I do not understand.

Stills doesn't work here. Let's me log in via https but then show the chain again.

Yup you will get the chain one more time after you log in. Once you do that change it over to https:// again and you will get in. You have to change the site to https to first get to the login page and then change it again to https after logging in and getting the chain.

If you are wanting to upload files guys I'm not sure where it will go or how well it will work but at least you can see your sales.

Also a couple quirks. Doesn't seem to be updating the statistics page for me. I have to go in to the actual date to see the images that sold and there are a lot more images showing then the just general over all day by day stats. that and the total earnings hasn't updated yet either.

Today so far is one of my best days in a while. Site is up you just can't go to http://submit.shutterstock.com instead go to https://submit.shutterstock.com . Go ahead and log in and you will get the chain again as it brings you back to the standard http version of the site. change it once again to https:// and you are good to go and can check your stats.

Off Topic / Re: Competing with yourself?
« on: September 11, 2013, 18:23 »
I'm more curiour about more of a niche of not oversupplied area. Could I hurt myself if I start pushing out tons of images in a niche or low supply market place if the demand is there?
Can you really compete with yourself or if there isn't much supply would putting out as many images as you can in that low supply area be a good thing?

I've heard some say that you can over populate a catagory but is it really so? I understand if you have 100000 photographers making an image of a dude in a business suit and each submits 100 images yeah you are not going to get your images to stand out easily. What I'm curious about though is if your images are not the same as others could you still cause that same over supply thing or if anything would be best at thta point to pump out as many of the images that you can?

General Photography Discussion / Re: Canon CPS changes
« on: September 10, 2013, 22:10 »
Only advantages I'm seeing from this are you get more clean/checks and it's all internatal anymore no need for certificates. otherwise it's the shaft.
gear evaluations goes from 2 weeks to 1 week which once you include return shipping into that time it almost makes it worthless.
you get a lower discount on any repair items and you can only have so many items repaired using the discount.
oh and they realized the platinum members wouldn't like they get less for same amount of money so they lowered their price but for us in the gold we get less and pay just as much for it :-)

Does canon invest in microstock agencies by chance?
