Hello all,

I am considering to start with a photo-documentary project regarding a social topic in the country where I live. I'm planning to take pictures of people and ask them some questions about the topic. We can call it a photo-interview project as well. I thought I may need a release/document that could be signed by the interviewees which declares that I won't use the pictures for commercial purposes (stock), I won't share their personal info with 3rd parties, they are OK with the publishing of their ideas, etc.

Does anybody has experience with this kind of thing? What other points I would need to add to the release, what do you think?

Any comment/remark is appreciated.
Jim

March has been very weak so far. It's very surprising actually. The problem seems like there is not much traffic, less views, etc.

Well I think this version is very strongly favouring old content once again.
Yes, I will second that one. All new files are gone to back of my PF. No sales since the change  >:(

Bronze exclusive here. My sales are very low compared with previous months. Almost half now. Not good.
You also have to compare with previous Januarys, as January 'tends' on average to be a quieter month than Oct - Dec. (Of course, there will always be exceptions).
I seem to be about neck and neck with last Jan so far, but with over 1/3 more images than I had then.
My Jan 2010 was down 20%, almost to the cent, compared to Jan 2009.
Well, if I compare it with my previous january then my $ is up sth like 100%. Well, that's great. However that comes from new royalty percentage (30% instead of 25%) mostly. My portfolio growth and the download numbers aren't matching up actually. I will update this at the end of the month.

IS exclusive here as well. And no cheerleader or sth.

I had a good month on IS. Both $ and DL increased significantly, without counting the EL. Portfolio growth was around %5, $ increased around %25 (thanks to hitting the RC target) and DL increased around 8%. I think if you can upload at least with a certain pattern you can have increase.

Apart from these, what is happening at the site nowadays is stunning. I am as disgusted as most of the contributors, maybe even more disgusted than independents. All my eggs are here. Last days gave me some stress.

I hope everybody had a good month.

I think it's possible to reach %30 or even %35 (if you upload like crazy and if you have certain amount of vetta/agency) for exclusives. It's almost impossible beyond that, I guess.

33
1) Fire IT Manager/Chief Information Officer. Rollback the application and code layers to the latest date before the royalty % problem occurred.
2) Freeze the working code until the end of busy season (let's say until February). Make a development plan to simplify the site functions. Make sure an effective Business Continuity Plan has been established.
3) Fire Lobo. Assign a "Chief Communication Officer" for both clients and contributors. Make sure Lobo never comes back.

Bonus) Fix the video side: Solve the technical problems around uploading and shorten the inspection times (Even two weeks is OK).

All the rest is just small details :)

I just sold my first video! On istock !
Congratulations!! I have so far 3 downloads in IS despite being exclusive.

Characterstock means more conceptual shots I guess?

Nice work! I like the rotation on jewelry. I think you had similar clips on IS as well. Can I ask you how you did that? I guess there is something rotating underneath?

I don't have any editing software beside MPEG Streamclip. Therefore I try to arrange and fix the WB in my camera before the shooting. Maybe After Effects or Premium/Final Cut can do this job afterwards as well.

Shutterstock just accepted my first 10 videos in ONE HOUR! I am stunned, really! All these files have been in the istock queue for ages, most of them still are (since September)

Thank you!
Woooowwww.. That's fast. Too fast. :)

I will wait until IS mirrors the videos on Getty and until I see the results. After that I guess I will make a decision. But yes, inspection times on IS is irritating and on other sites attracting. :)

Has the best match changed again? Now I am getting DLs only during European working hours. No DLs on working hours Americas. That's very weird for me.

Anybody else having this pattern?

Exclusive here. There is something going on at IS. It's either best match shift or local adaptation of the search, or sth else. But the my DLs have disappeared. And the ones happening are mostly from 2010 files, while I had uploaded a lot in 2011.

I got images inspected from 1 week ago. It's obvious that the inspection times are long these days.

You probably know it already but lower F numbers (5 and below, my experience) will also avoid sensor spots.

Furthermore, if you have Photoshop CS5 (might be extended version) you can edit videos frame by frame there.

... It's like there are no sales happening from Europe and Australia.

When I check in the morning Pacific Time, there's usually a decent chunk of sales from Europe and Australia and Asia. This morning on iStock there was nothing - zero. I now have a grand total of 2 sales, I assume from the US East Coast. If it were a holiday, I think I'd see SS down, but I don't, so I guess it's just IS losing ground in certain markets

My PF is relatively small. I am in Europe. My DLs are coming in the late afternoon / evening hours since couple of days. In the old days I had sales throughout all day.

My sales this week are down by two thirds on last week. I notice that one of my files that had No.1 position in a best match search is now behind exclusive files which have 1/20th of its sales in twice the time.
Are they trying to calm the exclusives by giving them a big push up the best match at the independents' expense?
I don't watch the best match closely enough to know if my file's shift is part of a pattern or just my bad luck,
I am an exclusive and my DL numbers are terrible since 2 days although my pf grew 20% last two months. It's like there are no sales happening from Europe and Australia.

Just a small update to my original post. At the moment the inspection times for exclusives is around 10 weeks on IS. For non-exs it's around 14-15 weeks I think.

This is not going in a good direction. I guess I will reconsider my exclusivity with IS next year.

In the last couple of days I don't get any download during European working hours. All the downloads happen when Americas start to work and stops on European morning hours. Does anybody else experiencing this pattern?

It was reasonably good for Monday and Tuesday, but today it doesn't look promising.
I will second this part. Monday and Tuesday were very nice. And Wednesday was crap where I got only downloads from older files. This makes me think of a new best match change. It's slow at the moment.

I am also exclusive in IS and the last 3 days of October were very bad compared to first couple of days..

The only (theoretically) attractive thing to become exclusive video submitter on IS at the moment is the mirroring in Getty website. But seeing that the mirroring of images takes ages and they haven't started with the process yet I think being non exclusive is better. I had recently become exclusive video contributor as well but I think I will cancel my exclusivity after a batch of inspections of my uploads are completed. Very very frustrating.

True, but in the old days they actually used to rate files 1-5. Now AFAIK the rating is only a five and puts the file automatically in Vetta. I haven't had that happen yet!
That's not always true. Sometimes they give an initial 5 rating and the files is not moved to Vetta. It's some kind of "OK, you did your best. But not enough for Vetta. Better luck next time".
Vetta, since the original ingestion which had different parameters, isn't about 'best', it's about a style, often dark, sepia, vignetted and/or with flare or other lighting that would normally be rejected.
What I am trying to say is, an initial 5 rating doesn't automatically qualify a file for Vetta.

Hello,

I am submitting video to IS at the moment. As you may also know it's really really slow there, inspection times can be around 8 to 10 weeks (non-ex) and 4 to 6 weeks (ex). Sometimes videos can get stuck somewhere and lost forever.

I am wondering how is the inspection process in other sites. Especially Shutterstock and Pond5. If you have opinion about other video submitting sites feel free to add.

Regards
J.
