Pond5 / Re: What's up with P5
« on: October 05, 2019, 09:05 »
They're having another town hall meeting on October 8th, might be a good time to see if they can address our concerns.

I suspect they will keep on with their agenda of lying to us, telling us conversions and sales went up due to the price search cap and other experiments and avoid all questions that actually matter.   It really looks like the investors or other management have taken control of that company, it's not the same Pond5.

They also appointed themselves as stewards of the marketplace....really?, and they are limited non-exlusive sellers to $79HD and $1794K but allowing Reuters to sell their content for $1100 per clip and Reuters is allowed to upload full sequences with interviews and audio all while we are only allowed one shot per clip with no audio.

It's like when that new CEO took over and he raised the minimum prices we could sell HD and 4K at and said it was because we feel you should value your work and it turned out to be so we couldn't undercut their membership sales program.

Everything they tell us that is supposed to be for the benefit of artists translates to the direct opposite including the exclusive program.

They have a new admin in their forums now, he introduced himself, told us to keep it civil and already is in keeping with the pond5 tradition of conducting one way conversations, he refuses to answer multiple questions in the forum.

Hard lesson learned here for me, NEVER put all or a majority of eggs in one basket, I wasn't exclusive but I should have been more diligent in uploading every frame of video I have to SS as well. Every company can change their rules and policies or ways of doing business at any time so never put off uploading to the other viable sites, now I am playing catch up with SS and it's an eternity even with a moderately fast internet connection.

my dream is that all those agency fail tomorrow and we start again, with more quality and normal price....but it's a dream...or wait maybe soon will be reality...let's wait next ss quarter call to see as i expect that shutter stock is beginning losing money...

what means exactly illustrative editorial?
for example an hotel of a touristic location is illustrative editorial?

Newbie Discussion / Re: external hard disks
« on: October 03, 2019, 06:26 »
Three days ago i had a problem with my tech 8 terabyte external data with thunderbolt connection, a bomb with 350 mb speed, is the thunderbolt 1...iit slowed a lot like impossible to work. i used disk warrior, best software i bought in the last 10 years, and he said the disk was broken and should copy all....i had a copy of all i thought but instead i was not covered for 3 years...began copying very slow the files and after 10 hours the disk began working again normally. i noticed that the macbook pro led charger was very very pale, green pale and near impossible to see, i think it was a problem with the macbook not having enough power at this point...any way bought two more 8 tb wd book and coy bought so i have near three copy and the original. two move in different location.

never stress enough...BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP....losing photos is like losing part of us.

157
subberstock? adobe sub? ..a:)

theindustry is this..those who bought with credit are simply buying free from the millions of file in the net, included those stolen from micro....rpd is falling down everywhere despite a growth in number of download. fotolia was good for many 7,5 dollar sale and 3,30...now only 99 cent maximum..ok they sell more, but if the ripped is 0,5 is pretty difficult to earn something.

Adobe Stock / Re: something's wrong (sales)
« on: October 02, 2019, 06:07 »
Very slow for me right now and past few months -- and getting less per sale.

Also, I upload new material more interesting that sells elsewhere but seems like certain images sell over and over on AS, but new material not so much, even material selling elsewhere.  What sells on AS not necessarily what sells elsewhere.

as is king for selling old images...is not a case that there are some diamond contributor who upload practically zero content in the last 2 years and still sell tons of images....is the problem of all agency...they need to find a balance between old and new images or soon they won't have new content at all..is not a mine of yours problem is everycontriboutor problem...and as i said those who upload and have a lot of download in the first years still sell a lot without uploading content at all r very few. it's not they have amazing or exclusive content is simply they have a lot fo file in first pages.

subberstock...and adobe subs...20 % more download than last year combined 30 % less money.....it's clear that people who need credit or on demand photos are looking elsewhere.

My theory is that the big users still buy their subs every month but the smaller independent grahpic designers etc who used to buy an ODDs package as needed per job, now go first to Unsplash and Pixabay etc and only when they're unsuccessful do they return to SS/Adobe.

Probably explains why SS and Adobe advertise on those free sites...and help keep them in business ::) Eejits!

of cours, in addiction there is pinterest instagram where find free images...unspalsh who was seen by many just a non competitive reality, is killing this business.
in my opinion even big corporate takes files there , first the quality is much better than micro, they fit perfectly the current style choosen by many, the quality is very high and you can't find that garbage you find in micro....seem like is full of artist who don't bother to earn penny in ss but prefer visibility...i remember even apple used their files in  a presentation....

for me the big challenge of ss is make new good files seen by customer....yeasterday i make some research in ss for some kind of food....search pulled pork for example, watch popular and the new...how in the earth they accepted the garbage in the new tab? how is it possible to be discovered if there is this kind of spammingg in key word?
ss think to be smart but it's losing lot of customer, especially ion enterprise sector....hw they think a customer can be happy to bows to that kind of stuff not even my grandmother of 95 years old would make photo of?

in addiction they are killing any wish for positive and good worker to produce...there are photographer who don't upload fo rages as i see in fotolia for example who still sell thousand of photo per year simply because their position in page one....new contributor and nw files struggle to be seen. this is heavily biased toward old contributor...i hope they kill popular and leave only relevant or a tab wh i s mix of age and download or view..

General Stock Discussion / Re: September earnings
« on: October 01, 2019, 11:07 »
video is the next big saturated thing....consider that ss has already 15 millions video,, compared to 300 millions images, but how many video are sold compared to images per day, i suspect the ratio is pretty low for video...in addiction all agency will soon go the cheap route for video...those shooting video that are complaining that video are sold cheap now at 12 15 dollar soon will see what means cheap.
to do stock full time you need to be a big producer, have a niche with a lot of old files in first page already, because starting from scratch now good luck to be seen in the sea of garbage or leave in poor country.  it's sad but it's the hard truth. i shot a wedding and earn in 5 hours plus post 1500 2500 euro...to make this kind of money in micro i need 2 month nowadays and despite heavy uploading. unfortunately new content sell scarcely, and as i said popular images tab kill andy chance to sell new file.

Adobe Stock / Re: The rise of Adobe Stock
« on: September 30, 2019, 18:21 »
adobe is 25 % of ssbut i shoot lot of editorial so i imagine is also du etc this. the problem is that like in ss the rpd is killed in the last month....more dl combined but falling rpd is killing....once in fotolia i had lot of 7,5 and 3,3 dollar per day, now the maximum is 0,99, mostly 0,36 0,66..

164
What percentage of the portfolio do you class as "old"? If 90% of it is old and new photos only account for 20% of sales, then new files would still be outselling old ones by 2:1 even though 80% of sales are of old stock.
This is a rather obvious factor that needs taking into account, but I can't recall seeing anybody mention it in the "only old files sell" threads (which, curiously, have been appearing for many, many years now ... I wonder if the new files that didn't sell five years ago have now become old files that do sell)

That is an excellent point. My experience with SS though seems to be similar to the OP's in that it does seem to take a lot longer for files to gain traction there compared to AS or IS. As for the rest it really is only old files that sell for me - meaning that they take even longer to rise through the ranks?

but very longer i'd say.

165
i made category for year in catalog manager...2017 file have already earned more than 1,3 dollar in 2 years and half....2018 have earned less than 0,6 cent per file...2019 are earning this year less than 10 cent per file uploaded....ok 2017 files are older than 2018 2019, but i doubt 2019 in 2 and half year will earn 1,3 dollar per file.
it's not a casse that 2017 was the year they open the gate and let everything in.
new files sells very little, i probably sells more files old 2009 2010 this year than file s uploaded in 2019 and i'd say they are much much better.
the problems is thesis sites are totally biased toward popular old files...nobosy is searching through new files....makes some casual search and you will see what imp talking about. totally disaster, wrong keyword, files completely unrelated...me i am frustrated to collaborate with an agency with such low standards, imagine a customer!!...they go through popular r tab in any agency and just browse three four pages...that's why those with lot of popular images will earn more and those producing good new content not.
another key point of the fall of new files was when they canceled the third tabs. maybe they should mae some more tab, like in video. in istcok new files sells practically after a month, not ll but man. in ss probably less than 1% pf monthly sales are new files.

this agency is going bankrupt soon. it's clear. like 123rf and cannock...probably deposit will manage to be alive some more here...then will be the time for ss esp and adobe...soon there will be no business in micro stock...it's pretty clear.

General Macrostock / Re: $0,8 "Premium" sale at Cavan Images
« on: September 13, 2019, 06:49 »
Cavan says it's because Getty pays that for premium content. Cavan will have my images hijacked for 2 years or until my claim to the authorities is processed. I do not know the cause of the problem but it is the photographers who suffer it is the reality.

and? you can do nothing. stock photography is dead. years after years itutaion is collapsing soon stock site will offer photos for cent like istocl, and video for 50 cent.
is full of images out there...unsplah pixabay give million images of good quality for free...demand is collapsing and offer is skyrocketing...is normal economic demand and offer.
persoanlly i have moved all my income to assign, int ea and private shooting. stock is for paying taxes only and some gear. ssdon't sell nothing of new content, so i'm stucked to the same income month after month, stock only one who increase sales but their royalty are ridiculous., fotolia sold many images for 7,5 dollar and 3,3 every month, now mostly 0,36 cent, canvas dead, dreamstime dead...i had hope with cavan to upload high quality images but as i red this stopped immedialty...i'm in westend 61 now so i have hope....unfortunatley only stocksy not accepted me and this was the only bay i would have given my best work. but again how much will stocksy grow and keep that sales price scheme? only best producer with super high quality work can survive,

Perfect example of proof by using a terrible example. One word search for Landscape? Are you joking?
What buyer would do that? Landscape  ::)

Consider I did not want to test a buyer vision, I just wanted to observe recent submissions.
Try this :
https://www.shutterstock.com/fr/search?sort=newest&image_type=photo

Better for you?

just look the ss forum , some thread like doom and gloom or that guy who wanna upload 10000 photos....then you realize.
for me it's unbieleavbel why they keep accepting that stuff..if i were a customer i would pay the dollar more to brows serious collection like stocksy or even stock i s much better with much less garbage.
they are losing market share day by day...their 4q keep losing growth and probably next will be red numbers....they keep losing enterprise customer...shouldn't they realize that the problem is their collectioN?
had they ever browsed unsplash? pixabay...i fell better looking unsplash collection for each  keyword than ss for sure....ahow we can blame customer who buy to unsplash...better images, more creative, right now covering the needs of many customers, and free!

always the same stuff always the same old files...nothing new sells....unbielevable.

Just to see, I looked at recent stuff for landscape : https://www.shutterstock.com/fr/search/landscape?sort=newest&image_type=photo
UNBELIEVABLE, I was not conscient about all the crap coming in. Nothing surprising that recent stuff, even if the best keeps unseen and unsold, buyers don't come through all these snapshots to find professionnal photo... How serious contributors can feel proud by participating on such a platform? personnaly, I feel ashamed to put my best pictures there.
But, I am sure that one day things will change, and they will have to clean up the base.

You say you stopped uploading and when you did it was rejects. What did you expect?

my rejects is probably in the 5% for batch. I'm not uploading my best stuff or creative one, simply upload stuff i not consider my best work, that doesn't mean is bad work, probably much better than what you are uploading.

SAME FELLING...i stopped uploading serious stuff to ss...totally useless at this point...they sell always they same stuff....if you have hundred file in good position you sell them if not it's totally useless to upload new stuff...every sunday i always sell my two bestseller, every day included sunday....so it's not the quality the problem, the problem is that at this point new file have a 1% chance to sell. all changed after they cancel the third tab...once it was easier...last two years a nightmare for new upload.

General Stock Discussion / Re: What's happening with Yuri Acrus?
« on: September 07, 2019, 15:33 »
Just wondering if anyone knows what is happening with Yuri Acrus's business? For the longest time he was THE mega selling photographer. He shoots great stuff. He had a huge staff. I can only imagine his earnings has collapsed like everyone else's. In the era of low prices, I can only imagine his high production costs no longer works. I know some of you are not a fan of him. Let's not say negative things about him. Thanks!

He has a very successful photo business with, interns, students and apprentices. He gets big contract jobs because he has the staff, crew, make-up, studio, location scouts and everything needed.

He's an IS exclusive but I doubt that Yuri gives a hoot about Microstock.

Very smart, he played it right, got know, recognized, and moved up.

There's no reason for Yuri to be blogging or posting on these Microstock forums.

Not sure how that citizen journalist site of his ever went.

Best wishes and here's to his continued success.

yuri arcurs in the world of big contract advertisement is zero. you don't know clearly what talks about....he's is still am icrostock with huge cost and falling revenue as everybody...those shooting advertisement, big, big money contract don't even know what is micro stock.

Thanks for the helpful insight and detailed answer

that's ha s nothing to do with shooting commercial gig for thousand of dollar...he's just his studio...he moved to cape town because denmark was too costly, and made a new studio for his micro stock business. in addition south africa has lower taxation and cape town is an hub for model agency and house pf photo production. lot o gigs are made there.
but he's not a big name in commercial gig world, outside micro sock is barelyknown and if you knew some agency or agent you would know.

And you would know because you are some inside professional? Sho cheap vodka will distill your brain. Yuri owns his own agency His stock is not the same as your cheap microstock rejects.

yes ia am.

he is through. do you have any idea of what means commercial photographer outside microstok? i have you no...u yuri probably had a bunch of gig in his career nothing big i think. big contract are made mostly by represented photographer who don't have even a clue what micro stock is...do you think tat big fashion photographer or commercial american giant have ever shot for micro? unfortunately when you shoot for micro you become a bit banned by the rest of the world, is more common that a commercial photog go to micro when is fame coma fading, but starting from micro believe me is like a big no when you wanna shoot or move to commercial big gig. if you thinktwice actually micro is killing part of those gig who made agent , agency and commercial studio so profitable..he was great to understand the potential earlier than other, made lot of money but he has cost out of this world, i would be interested to see how much he earn compared to monkey business or some big eastern world production house who have ten time less costs.
his style for me is obsolete in this monet, for example i  find much more creative jacob lund, who worked for him at beginning if i am not wrong, or uteri images...he is style look like 2000 or 90...too perfect model too shiny photoshooting while the trend is clearly towards spontaneity and casual shooting....i'm sure he's still doing lot of money but millions no.
