I have the following suggestions:

Form a board, that decides for the whole symbiostock platform.
register the company in a reliable country.
Elect a chairman with procura.
Buy the trademark
make sure you have the rights to the code.
redirect from all symbio, info, bizz and whatever to .com
collect all registring and paying on the front page, evt pay a progammer to do this.
standardize everything, even layout in the separate shops to a degree.
set a launch date and describe milestones on the way.
redelegate PR and SEO to members or a dedicated group
redelegate design to members or a dedicated group
make forums for workgroups or cooperate via skype multiuser.

Great Ideas.  Do it! you can use the Symbiostock code as a starting point to create this new entity.

In order for this to work, someone has get the ball rolling.  For funding you could try a kick start type campaign.

Symbiostock, as it is, exists because of one person doing it.  If you think that an organization is needed to take it to the next level then someone has to step up to make it happen.

ja ja, thats all true, but look at it from the customers side.

The problem is, we don't know who the customer is ( or will be).

Will it be a big design firm who has a contract with iGetShuttertime?  I doubt it.  The bean counters won't like using paypal.

Will it be small design shops?  Maybe.

Will it be people who just need a couple of images now and then?  I think this might be the market... and just think about how big this market might be.

But who knows.... the only way to find out is to build it and see what happens. I think it could be a very interesting ride.

It's very confusing, there are so many Symbiostock threads that I don't know where to find the basic information that I need to get started. Some links would help.

Yep.  It honestly just looks like way to much work right now to figure out how to modify, customize, upload, etc.   And I don't want to upload, and change data, only to find the whole things changes and I have to one-by-one something again.

Right now Batch editing is the biggest PITA "non-feature" of Symbiostock. I am sure someone will have a plug-in for this soon.

If your images are all similar in pricing structure and content rating, then this isn't a big issues.  You set you presets at the beginning and they all are all the same.  The time consuming part is if you want to go back and edit a batch.

Once the information is there there isn't a need to go in and change it.

Symbiostock - General / Re: Is Symbiostock a con?
« on: July 15, 2013, 08:41 »

3. Which part of Symbiostock is open source and which isn't? Can the project be forked by a third party? Is there a guarantee that the project will remain open source?

The "heart" of Symbiostock is an idea.  The Idea of networking sites with the same purpose ( in this case selling stock images).  The power is in the network and search ability across many individual sites.  I believe that it will be forked by many third parties... some will close their network, some may open it more.  This may spawn Symbiomusic, or Symbiogames, or Symbio????

And images with huge number of keywords are pushed down.

What is a huge number?   I try and put between 20 - 40 keywords in ( depending on the image).  Too many?  Not enough?

131
Good reasons...if you read this forum, you can see the work and effort that many people ( especially Leo) put in.... to reach the point were I think it would be much easier to get up and running now

that they won't sanction overtime to make sure people get paid on time.

I doubt if they could find anyone to work overtime.... it is Stampede in Calgary.... http://cs.calgarystampede.com/events/

Besides, in marketing, negative publicity is just as good as positive publicity. It makes people look to see what everyone's talking about.  :)

So true.  If we can get people talking ( and looking) then we will create a buzz!!!... And I have no idea who he is and his credentials but he does come off like a pompus twit

I noticed that some people are requiring login in order to leave a comment on a blog post. I can tell you that for me personally, I will not want to create that many logins just to leave a comment.

I was going to make a similar comment... then I check my own settings.

Whoops. I am one of the people I was going to comment about    ::)   :-\

For those who want to change this.

General Stock Discussion / Re: The Future Big 5
« on: July 12, 2013, 10:37 »
It is interesting to see how off some people were... and the demise of iStock has been predicted for so long.

For profit I am betting/ hoping my Symbiostock site will be in the top 5.

136
Asking is a good idea.  A link to the wording is also good and more helpful to both sites..google loves links in and out of posts.

137
I think we will also have to balance what the machine sees, and what people see.

SEO is important to get people in the door, but we need a nice looking site to get them to the cash register...hopefully with more than they came in to buy.

A quick look at the site with google translator seems to show it is a design site in Croatian... the name of the site is Design Zone.

I cold not get into the post to see further.

I have set up my Symbiostock site at alanklughammer.com/stock. There are a few issues I am working on, and I have only put up a few old photos, but I would like to get some feedback.... :)

Site looks ok, but could use some tweaking?  Once I go to your blog, I can not find a a way back to your stock page.

142
My quick take away is keywords, links, and domain authority  still make up the bulk of the ranking.

No wager from me, I totally expect the same. Human nature. Haves and have nots.

I was thinking more for niches or subject specific areas, but that too. :)

The tools are there to make this happen, we just don't have the numbers.... yet.

144
Saw it.

too busy in my own little world to repsond, yet.

Has anybody given some thought to how QC might be imposed?

Who are we to impose our ideas about quality on others. That is for the buyers to decide.  Images I think are crap sell for more than I make in a year or a decade in galleries around the world.

What we can do is control which sites we network with, and have the looks we like.

Symbiostock - General / Symbiostock- Critical Mass?
« on: July 09, 2013, 10:15 »
I am very surprised and excited about how the Symbiostock network has developed.  It is an amazing thing to be part of.

As of my last check there were 55 sites, and 60K images on the network.

What do you think will be the turning point, the point we reach numbers that people outside of MSG will sit up and take notice?

Will it be when we reach 150 sites?  500 sites?  and image numbers  100K?  500K?

Ron

Don't delete your Word Press site... just the Symbiostock Theme.

I suggest a method for you is:

a) Install and activate a child theme.
b) Get it working and looking the way you want ( should be easy if you haven't modded any code)
c) once you are happy with your child, download 2.5.5
d) select another theme ( other than Symbiostock or child)
e) Delete the Symbiostock Theme ( not the child, not the site just the theme in word press)
f) Upload the new theme ( again in wordpress)
g) activate the Child Theme

All the hard work on your images and SEO will not be touched or affected.

Depending on the changes to your Child theme, it may take 15-20 minutes.

<snip> exclusive on my own site instead. Not sure if it is entirely logical, but I put the price higher for an exclusive image on my site - thoughts about that?

On my people site I have been doing that, exclusive studio shots with high production value are higher priced.  On my pin-up I am going for $39... My thinking is it may be too high, but it is easier to drop prices that it is to raise prices.   My other images are the regular SYS prices.

Still no sales though.... :(

Off Topic / Re: Capitalism is the crisis
« on: July 06, 2013, 15:54 »
(and capitalism seems to be the natural social system of humanity).

Is It?

I see communities here ( Ecuador) where  the communities live, and work and share on a co-operative model not on a capitalist model.  The corruption and values of greed have only arrived in the post-columbian time frame... before that society and mutual survival was more important than individual wealth.

Interesting. Maybe it is only technological societies where capitalism is the default. But co-operative communities still tend to have hierarchies, don't they? If there are sufficient resources to feed, clothe and house everyone then I suppose there is no pressure to accumulate wealth and try to provide for the future.

These villages have trucks, and computers and cell phones ( most are shared).  There are hierarchies, and the other trappings of a society, but money isn't what people strive for, happiness is.
