Symbiostock - General / Re: how to start?
« on: June 18, 2013, 07:27 »

Be careful http://www.venik4.com/2009/06/bluehost-com-web-hosting-problems/

A blog post from 2009?  I think (hope) things may be different today...  :D

Good news/ bad News situation.

I have been trying to get into Symbiostock.com for a couple of days to download the child theme, and the site has been unreachable.

The good news is, the entire network is still up and running!  it isn't dependant on one central site.

The bad news is, we can't send people to get the theme if there isn't a place to send them.   :(

So sometimes I get so frustrated that I start raping the actual php files and cram the code in there just to have it. With the next update my changes are gone LOL. Talk about Karma.

I am not a code guy...but isn't using a child theme supposed to solve this?

204
I am using ML slider.

I set it up as a widget and put it in my home page above content postion

If you are new to Wordpress, there is a lot of power in the widgets.

How many uploads do you have until you got your first sale?

I have over 420 files, and still no sale.

It must be the quality of my uploads.

No one knows about your images... right now it doesn't matter how many images you have the buyers aren't here... yet.

The only major issue left that will cause image buyers to look somewhere else is the individual registration/cart/checkout for every single SY site.

And we know this how?

I agree that this MAY be an issue but until we start getting buyers we won't know for sure.

Are our buyers going to be people who want 1's or 2's of images or 10's and 20's

I suspect the former, since the big purchasers will want the discounts offered by the big stores, but I don't know.

We have built it, but we still don't know who, if or when they will come.

If we have a common check out then we need common pricing and common agreements and then people in charge and ....

and totally off topic but has that man in the advert below really got a jackhammer up his a**  which has pushed his head off - makes me shudder every time I see it

I don't know what it is... but it is different... it achieved one thing, we are talking about it.

Please...no discussion... just list plug-ins... thank you

I have been thinking ( as I drink my morning tea) and we need two packages.

1 aimed at sellers and 1 aimed at buyers.

I need more caffeine but as a start of headlines:

Sellers:

SYMBIOSTOCK OFFERS PHOTOGRAPHERS ALTERNATIVE TO HIGH COMISSION STOCK AGENCIES.

Buyers:

SYMBIOSTOCK OFFERS STOCK IMAGE BUYERS AN ALTERNATIVE TO TRADITONAL LARGE CORPERATIONS

Symbiostock - Technical Support / Re: Contact form
« on: June 16, 2013, 09:22 »
I didn't have to change anything... it worked on my non-symbiostock site straight away.

Meg made some changes to the code to allow it to work with Symbiostock... Symbiostock's email system does some things with the WP code which she had to work around.

I just tested it with the latest versions of both... and all is happy.

I built my own contact me page  with [contact-form] as the center piece.

It may be a conflict with other plug-ins?

It might be better if we are all NOT on bluehost.

If we have links, trackbacks etc all coming from a small number of IP addresses Google might not like it....

The images display in a single column for me.  Is that normal?

What browser are you using?
Someone else with this issue?

Chrome.... and after restarting Chrome for another issue all is good.... nice to know it was a problem at my end.

Perhaps we could do something between us?

Let's try.

Important points to cover.

Synbiostock... Network of independent artists.
Fairtrade images
Wordpress theme
Growing daily
links to Symbiostock/ MSG
Fast
Easy
Fun

Why Would buyers want to use the network?

Don't have to buy subscriptions
Uses paypal ( so any credit card) safe, reliable,
deal with artist no some big no-name company
Quality
Exclusive

OK what else am I missing?  brighter whiter cleaner clothes?   I used to have a link to call to action words you should put in PR pieces but I can't find it now...

Wow

The images display in a single column for me.  Is that normal?

I have already asked Leo if he will write one we can use or base something on :D

Leo is an amazing person, and great coder ( and nice guy?  ( never met him so I don't know for sure)) but I don't think he is a wordsmith.

The same way there are people who are just amazing photographers, there are also people who are amazing with words.

The wordsmiths I know are all busy or not interested in writing what I think we need.  Anyone know any wordsmiths?

« on: June 15, 2013, 17:18 »
To answer the Original question... yes there are many benefits to blogging and commenting on and about images.

Google loves this stuff.

If there is an image, in the SY network and they don't allow comments, then create your own blog post, place your comment there and link to the image.

If you like something that someone wrote, and you write about it ( and link) in your blog then that helps both parties.

So blog, link, comment away, we all win.

As for comments on images, I have it enabled ( I think) for most of my images... but no spam ( so far)... I have comments set to moderation... I am told about them, but they don't appear until I OK them.

BTW mylazy photographer blog is located at:http://glennspecht.com/wp/category/s10-blogs/c59-lazy-photographer-photo-blog/] http://glennspecht.com/wp/category/s10-blogs/c59-lazy-photographer-photo-blog/       8) :D

Not using Fair Trade no, did not manage to incorporate that into my wording

I emailed a lot of my address book the other week and let them know about the site and asked them to pass it on to anyone and everyone they thought might be interested which bought a lot of additional traffic, and today  I am contacting web-designers etc to start getting the word out about us.  No point in sitting and waiting I don't think, we need to go out and let potential customers know about us.

I don't do "social networking" maybe will need to start so am trying other methods

How are others going about this ?

By Contacting people you are doing Networking, and if you are a nice person, then it is social...so I am accusing you of " SOCIAL NETWORKING".... ;D :o

I am still trying to find someone to right a press release to send to all the photo news sites... and maybe a template we can all use.... xyz.com is proud to announce they have joined the Symbiostock netwok....

Symbiostock - Network Building / Re: Marketer?
« on: June 14, 2013, 20:26 »
So is this a built in function...ie I can use this already on my site ( building of the hub) or will I have have to generate my own code ( I suspect that is the case)

I think this is a great idea... something I was looking for, for awhile.

Lol I'm on my kindle right now but I wonder does anyone ever click those little info buttons? That gives a depthy answer.

I clicked the button, and read it twice before I posted my message here.  The info doesn't answer questions such as how this feature works, Why it is there, How you see it working.... and I have not seen any discussion on this, which I think could be one of the most interesting features of the site.

One of the reasons I posted thins thread is to get the discussion started!

Symbiostock - Network Building / Marketer?
« on: June 14, 2013, 12:41 »
I just saw the button for Marketer on the Marketing Page of the Theme.

Who? What? Where? When? Why? How?

If it is what I think it is, I am happy but I am not sure.

Symbiostock - SEO & Marketing / Re: Drop in traffic.
« on: June 13, 2013, 12:54 »
How much of the drop is because you are not working on your site?  Unless you set things up specifically you working on a site is considered traffic.

I can't comment about the actual amount... I changed the way my traffic is recorded, split out my Stock site, so I don't have long term traffic reports.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Orphan works and UK law
« on: June 13, 2013, 10:27 »
I think this whole Orphan Works thing makes a good case for having a personal website with all my stock images on it. Any "diligent search" will result in my photo being found online.

I never thought about that, but it sure makes a lot of sense.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Is there any future for Istock?
« on: June 12, 2013, 09:42 »
I have slow internet.... I can usually upload 10-12 images overnight.

For me, iStock sales are not great, but I do OK through their PP ( partner program).  I have never tried iStock up load, but DeepMeta makes uploading there easier than some sites... for slow internet it makes life much better.

For the future... who knows?  iStock is still number 2 on the chart.
