Enjoy your 15%

Enjoy your 25c from SS too.

As a Newbie I much prefer my 25c from SS vs the 0.00c I get from iStock

Symbiostock - SEO & Marketing / Alt text for images
« on: April 18, 2013, 12:30 »
As near as I can tell, Symbiostock does not put alt text on the images ( at least I could find any)

In my SEO reading people say that Alt text is very important.

Is this something for future releases, or is it yet again a case I don't know what I am talking about?

If this is going into a Symbiostock directory - info on the directory site I would like to see.
<snip>

Price range xsmall $1 - Xlarge $30 - whatever is set by users
Network size - totalled on the 5 slots
<snip>

Good list  but.... image price can be set per image not just across entire site..
Network size?  please explain what you mean here?

Symbiostock - Network Building / Re: Networking and Pricing
« on: April 18, 2013, 10:46 »
Pricing should be set by the photographer, and the subject of the image.

Your prices can be different per image.  Your generic "Tomato on white" could be set low, while your "bear dancing with elephant on the top of building" can be set higher....

we don't want to get affiliate trolls in the network that just set up sites to funnel sales to real sites and take a commission!

Steve

Why not?   I am a photographer, not a web designer, not a marketer. If someone ( just about anyone :) ) can do a better job at marketing my images than great.

I can see how you can keep track of who referred which sale, but automatically paying the referrer is not possible under current technical conditions.. (correct me If I am wrong on this..)

From my limited reading and understanding it is very possible for Paypal to split payments etc., if properly coded it would be done automagically....

357
I am trying to think of ways to reward people who have me on their network, and send me sales.

I am wondering if a plug-in such as this http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/affiliates/ can be intergrated into my site.... and what people think of the idea.

Would 5% of the sale be a good amount?  Too high?  Too low?

Any thoughts?

Glenn

thanks to those that added me. I am still working on the layout.

Trying to see how this helps with the Google as well.

Steve..good to know about the "search-Images" delay.  I really can't tell about the time difference.... my internet is slow when ever it rains... and it rains a lot :-\

Also the embedded links tip is good.

Leo mentioned some hints in another thread http://www.microstockgroup.com/symbiostock-seo-marketing/before-you-upload-how-to-ensure-sales/ which I have been slowly working through.

I have been thinking of other things that might help.

Google like new content, and also likes links to and from web sites.

So what I was thinking in our blogs on our own site we should mention other sites...

for example:

I was just looking at the great snow monkey images at http://stockimages.glennspecht.com/wp/image-type/snow-monkeys/

or

The Flower images on http://www.backyardstockphotos.com/search-images/flowers/ are amazing.

Someone with more SEO experience may be able to help out with the wording and best layout.

Thoughts?

Symbiostock - Technical Support / Re: Widgets on Home page
« on: April 16, 2013, 11:39 »
Where do I find the Template?

EDIT.

Ok I found the template setting, they are on the page>edit

There are 4 home settings

HOME page CTAs
HOME page simple
Home page
Home page - Sidebar

I was using the last one.

Now I have switched to HOME page CTAs  and it seems to be working.

Symbiostock - Technical Support / Widgets on Home page
« on: April 16, 2013, 11:23 »
Using Version 1.3.1  ( I am amazed at how quickly and well this has developed...Thanks Leo)

My "big" issue I am now dealing with is widgets on my home page.

I install the widgets in the home page section and they don't show up. If I want somthing to show up in the sidebar, I need to install it in the sidebar space, not the home page sidebar space.

I have set a static front page, but using the latest post doesn't change.

What am I doing wrong?  Is there a difference between front page and home page?

I am wondering about having networks based on content.

As an example my site might fit into the "nature and travel" network, but not the "lifestyle and business" network.

This could be a way for the niche sites to network and market themselves.

Glenn

BTW I have some out going networks, but I don't have any incoming ( I think)  does someone want to test my site to make sure it works?  http://stockimages.glennspecht.com/wp/

go to
https://www.google.com/webmasters
and register the location of you site maps.

I don't know if that will fix your problem, but it can't hurt.
to find your site maps they are listed in the Yost SEO section.

So, why not being a little patient while working hard on your site?

I have been accused of being many things.... patient has never been one of them....  :) ;)

I have been working hard on my site, trying things, breaking things, learning.  The time I have to invest in stock is limited and I have been neglecting other things to work on this.

Your single word searches are OK, but the multi word keywords don't work. I was annoyed at that to start with, but realised that it's actually far more efficient to have single keywords with an implied 'AND' in the search. Until Leo gets the advanced search ready, you might do better with a category cloud than a keyword cloud. That works very well as is.

Thanks... those are work arounds I can work on.... though it does mean I have to Categorize the images instead of just keyword.... :(

366
So Let's see if I have this right.

I work hard on SEO to get people to my site.  Then when they are there, the search will not allow them to find the images that I hope to sell?

Does anyone see a problem with this?

Are people hand coding search terms?

Symbiostock - Technical Support / How does the search work?
« on: April 13, 2013, 13:19 »
I have been trying to figure out how the search works, and what I have to do to improve it.

Using my site http://stockimages.glennspecht.com/wp/ I hover over the keyword tag "Snow Monkeys" and it says there are 50 tags.

I click on the tag and I get no images as result, and links to 2 of the sites on my network.

I put the search term "snow monkeys" in the search and I get 5 of the sites on my network, but none of my own images.

If I put "monkey" in the search term I get 56 images ( which is right 50 snow monkeys + others) and 3 of my networks, but no images from them.

If I drill down in my Category I find my 26 "snow monkey" images...

How do we set up Categories/ Keyword/ Tags? to get the best results for our site visitors.

Glenn

Thanks  Now I know how it is supposed to work I have made it work... :D

The problem was when I click activate two save changes appeared... one which did nothing.
Now that I know what is supposed to be I kept clicking until it worked.
That got me for a while too. I forgot about that.

OK we will just keep this thread here so that others can find it....    :D

Symbiostock - Technical Support / How to set-up newtorking
« on: April 13, 2013, 10:28 »
I have just spent 20 minutes or so looking for the information on settings you need to allow networking with your 5 sites.

What are the steps needed to make it work.

371
Leo

How will you pay for the bandwidth and server space?

Long term this might be cool, but short term, to get things going, a simple db might be the best answer.

Mid term, a cool feature would be a way for our sites to query this data base and download changes to our own site... that way we always have the latest list.

372
What we need is a site  ( symbiostock.com  ::)  ) where we can list our sites and have our listings be searchable by Category ( food, travel,.... ).  This way we can do our own updates and changes instead of asking and relying on others.

« on: April 11, 2013, 12:37 »
I just did a search for "snow monkey stock image"  and was excited that 3 of the top 4 images were mine.... until I looked closer and saw that they are hosted on 123, and Shutter Stock....:(

374
Personally I'm ready to give anyone 50% of the selling price who sells my art.

50% would be way too much for the network situation.  As well as producing the images, you have the hard cost of web storage and bandwidth, as well as the soft costs of keywording etc.,

I think the biggest reason for non-hyphenation is that I think cpanel doesn't allow it?
