Dreamstime.com / Re: Would like some advice on Dreamstime. Thanks
« on: November 09, 2020, 09:55 »
Sadly this has always been Dreamstime's policy.  (payout was never as low as $50, you misremember)

You have several options:

1.  Just leave it there, and check on it from time to time to see if you have reached payout.

2.  Take possibly expensive legal action to obtain your money and close your account.

3.  Create new images to upload to your portfolio and revive it.  Re-edit your old photos, make collages, do illustrations.

102
Don't do that.  It's never a good idea to mix money and friendship.  You may both mean well, but there are too many opportunities for things to get very, very sour.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Stolen content available for sale
« on: November 06, 2020, 09:59 »
"Race" is a socio-political construct.

"Ukranians are thieves." is a racist statement.

"The Ukranian government's stance on copyright issues is not acceptable." is not racist.

The statement, "Ban Ukranian accounts." could be interpreted either way.

104
The theory is that there is a crooked reviewer who deliberately approves whole portfolios of images nobody would actually buy.  Then, the gang uses stolen credit card information to buy gobs of these images.  The "photographer" collects the payout as legitimate earnings.

This theory is less plausible with lowered payments, but, as has been pointed out, there are still some high dollar sales.

Even with a very low percentage of earnings, it's still "free" money.

Also, very few sites will accept photos that have simply been vectorized.  You have to make a good illustration of it, with technical aspects correct.

Some sites may require you to submit your original photo as proof that you own it, to use to make vectors from.

Sort of a property release for your own property.

There has been speculation for years that Shutterstock is involved in money laundering.

"margin expansion initiatives"  Now, there's some weasel words.

For anyone not familiar with corporate-speak, "margin" is the difference between what you pay for something, and what you charge for it.

They've expanded that.  We know how.

Bigstock.com / Re: Bigstock Bullsh*t Earnings
« on: September 24, 2020, 10:13 »
I don't normally leave a site just because sales are slow (looking at you Canstock and Dreamstime), but I've been planning to leave Bigstock as soon as I get my next payout.  I don't trust the security of my images there because they are owned by Shutterstock. *ptui*

Sales have slowed down so much though, that I may leave without the payout.  It's taking too long, and I imagine Shutterstock looking at Bigstock for their next weird experiments.

114

We are planning to take only 0-5% commission for the sales (excluding service maintenance fee) for the first year, and slowly increase it up to 20% depending on the websites performance.

What is the service maintenance fee?  This does not look like a viable business plan.

Newbie Discussion / Re: boycott shutterstock

*waving*  another crotchety old bat here.
Shutterstock was my first stock site, way back when I was enthusiastic about the business.
Now, I want to spit on their CEO.

The only thing Cliffordthebigreddog has posted about is his new site.

Sadly, he'll probably get submissions, even without posting anything about pricing.

I regularly see posts in various forums from newbie photographers who didn't read the details before submitting their work somewhere.

You've seen them:  "I had a sale but I only got fifty cents!"

He'll get those people.

Newbie Discussion / Re: boycott shutterstock
« on: September 09, 2020, 07:31 »
And why the boycott? I have about 100 photos there, I sometimes get royalties. There have never been any problems.

Have you done a google reverse image search for your photos?  You may be surprised to see them in use in more places than your royalties can account for.

Portfolio is all still there - Kermits & all -

It usually takes a few days for the report to get through the queue of other reports, but once it does, Disney is even more rigorous than Mattel.

119
oooo...lazaralinsilviu has some images with Kermit the Frog in them.

I've reported this to Disney.  BOOM!

120
Do you guys think that other stocks like iStock and Adobe check contributor portfolios more carefully?

Yes, I do.  I have occasionally found stolen images on other stock sites, but never whole portfolios like this.  You would think the heavy use of filters would be a clue to the reviewers.

Shutterstock used to reject images that relied on simple filter effects, since anyone can do them.

Image Sleuth / Re: Thieves or sluts?

The site looks legit, so if they have something of yours up there, it's a mistake.  Contact them and let them know they need to take it down.

You get more discoverability by choosing categories, as well.

« on: July 26, 2020, 08:21 »
They are up and running, they are a good site always get a payout every month and the RPD is good.

May I ask what type of images you're selling?  I haven't had a sale there in 9 months.

CanStockPhoto.com / Re: Insecured?
« on: July 25, 2020, 07:50 »
The certificate expired today.

There's no way to know if the owner will bother to update that.  I'm guessing not.

Not that I still expected to get paid, anyway.

125
This is actually a way to keep you from DELETING your images.

While your portfolio is disabled, you can't access your own images to delete them.  They still show up in Shutterstock's database, so Google sees them, and directs searchers to Shutterstock, using your image.  They still count toward Shuttertock's count of images.

So, rather than disable, delete.
