Where's the apology? SS is going the iStock way.

Apology? ROFLMAO!  Apparently we don't even get an explanation.

The explanation is...

A special contributor just visit SS offices...

Can you guess who was...

So, he make what everyone here want to do... create a famous image that make a lot of money in the world of microstock...

Congratulations for him...

I think that most of people here feel so frustrated about the random and illogical nature of what sell a lot in this industry.
Its not exactly "microstock" at $1m a pop. Hes produced an image that is considered art by some. The guy who bought it might have something worth more in a few years.....or a worthless picture of a potato.... but nothing to do with Microstock.

Ok, thank you for clarification.

There's plenty of evidence of sales manipulation on SS.

I've been tracking sales data for 5 years and it is definitely become more apparent since 2014.

They are probably trying to share the "wealth" to encourage contributors to hang around.

I also get such odd sales for old files of really common subjects that have sold when they should have been drowned out long ago yet when I search for the same image it's no where to be seen anywhere in the results.

I think that they are manipulating Search Result to give each contributor a standard earning based some contributors porfolio parameters...

I think it is an extended licence for high exposure, maybe will be used in the cover or some kind or product or something...

Yesterday I have sold 4 "similar" photos to the same customer (same situation, people, light and framing, but with a change of clothes).
This demonstrate that somebody wants to have more choice/solutions, and maybe decide then.

Shutterstock missed that!

Everything depends of how similar they are... i think that similar is not the problem but repetitive content is here.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Dealing with copycats
« on: March 27, 2017, 16:48 »
It is very difficult to give general advice. On the one hand obvious copies or reuploads of stolen edited work defiantly need to be reported. On the other hand there are numerous threads on the shutterstock forum with people outraged over their work being "infringed" when the so called copies are very generic similar concepts.

Agree, now there are more than 130 millon images in SS database, so similar concept images are just statistically unavoidable...

Earning Cap theory?

212
Maybe search algorithm is influenced by something like a portfolio "quality-density factor"; thats means that if you have 10,000 life sales and you only have 200 images your "quality-density factor" is 10,000/200 = 50... so hi; but if you have 1,000 life sales and 20,000 images then you "quality-density factor" is 1,000/20,000 = 0.05, very low...

It is just a theory (of course) that fits good with the original thread...

213
Congratulations!! I hope to also see my work somewhere soon ;)

I noticed that now when uploading a batch of 40 images (vectors) every image is upload correctly, before the upgrade at SS maybe 2-5 images fail (becuase for some reason .eps file was incorrectly upload).

I wonder if it is now possible to use FTP without having problems?  ::) ::)

I retract myself, upload sucks as always...

At the time i create the post everything was so good but now a lot of gliches...

215
The relationship is multifactorial and depends on four main factors:
  • Images quality
  • Number of images
  • Keywords quality
  • Demand on the themes of the images

General - Top Sites / Re: Search Algorithms: How Do They Work?
« on: January 05, 2017, 11:03 »
SS is adding +1.000.000 new images per week and not 100.000 as was previously mentioned...

That every contributor receives a reasonable profit is also part of this business, so I think that the search algorithms also contemplate that.

The big problem is the number of contributors are growing faster that sells and money is less per capita day to day... old discussion... more images, more contributors but the same number of sells per day...

Shutterstock.com / Re: Problems uploading images at SS
« on: January 05, 2017, 10:39 »
Not for me. I upload 10 images daily to 9 sites via FTP. On SS, only 8 of them show up. 1 is listed at the top with the 'invalid format' error and the other just never shows.

Thank you for your reply Darryl, every year i waste some time checking if FTP problems was solved and every year I experience the frustration of seeing only a few images uploaded, so; no waste of time with this for 2017 ;)

The bit underneath says "FTP content can take a few minutes to process, so please be patient."

Have you just uploaded them very recently? Might just be a case of having a cup of tea, a bunch of cigarettes and a box of wine... and then coming back to it a little bit later.

Thank you for your feedback, i was upload with browser and sever problems was showed, but now everything is ok.

By the way, in the past i try uploading with FTP (last year), but i never can upload 100% of images, i mean, the software show every image uploaded but after a few hours just 30-40% of images was in the SS website... so... it is FTP working fine now or is just the same?

Just to ask if it is just me or anybody else have problems now uploading images...

After uploading and click on "submit content" SS says: "Nothing here! Why not upload some photos?"...

General Stock Discussion / Buying Stock pics, about licenses
« on: September 01, 2016, 21:37 »
After about 4 years selling vectors files on microstock sites I will create my own blog (nothing related with vectors or microstock) and i will also buy some stock pics to use as visual resorces for my articles. Honestly i never understand anything about licenses, i just sell my images on sites, and i understand that when i make a big sale it is because somebody buy a "special licence" but never take my time to understand it.

Now i am in the other side, i will buy some images to use in my website, so i need to understand licenses; my big question is, i need a special license to use an image on my website? or i can just pay the minimum for the image to use in this way?

I can not believe this is a "hot" topic of discussion, large companies have employees coming and going all the time ...
