Im sorry to hear that Leo.

It looks like a completely unfair suspension, and i hope you can solve it soon.

In the other hand i want to comment that with almost 100 million images at SS and almost 1 new million images per week the chances of a new uploaded image looking similar in concept or design to a previous image grows exponentially (just a comment, I know that is not the current case).

Good luck with your issue.

Best regards.

I just was completely inactive last month due to personal reasons (i mean i dont upload any image), so it is pretty logic for me to have a very low incoming.

I believe all of you when say that the business is going down for contributors; but i have a question... in one hand i never totally understand how Microstockgroup Earning Rating is calculated (the column that you can see at your right), in the other I had never seen SS so high in the Earnings Rate, is at 105,6 now! it was always between 85-95.

With the new feature of SS (now in beta version) buyer can add his/her own text to images and buy the license like this, im pretty sure they add this new feature to stop this kind of Bulk Uploads.

« on: July 04, 2016, 12:57 »
I upload just 38 illustrations to DT in 2013, im earning about 38.40$ per 3 month period (based on DT statics). It is about one US$ per image, i think it is not so bad considering that i just stop uploading to DT after i was accepted at SS so my gallery is so little, and also considering that 3 years ago images are still selling "good".

Maybe If I had continued to uploading images the story was different...

Ambiguous authorizations are dangerous, you can ask for them for a more complete authorization.

Illustration - General / Re: jpegs sizes and raster versions
« on: June 09, 2016, 16:06 »
Hi, i have no experience with iStock, but im almost sure that they just resize the Jpg preview to 1,235px (longest side). I dont know if they expect bigger files for review process, if not you dont need to spend time sending biggest files.

About image stoling, there is nothing to do, at least iStock have an invasive water mark but some files with white predominant background are at risk, dont care too much.

Actually SS have a new system and they sell image you send as preview of your vector as JPEG if buyer want raster version, dont need to upload in a separate way; and larges JPGS as preview are a good strategy now.

Dear PigInSpace and dear microstockgroup friends.

As somebody who have certain knowdlege about IT and how motor search engine works i can tell you that this is not something strange.

In one hand we really dont know how "popularity" search works, it is maybe related to sales and relevance; but in general an image can rank different when you search under different terms or phrases.

For example if you have a pic of a Boing 777, this pic may be the first (in first page) under the search term "Boing 777", but maybe your picture is in the thirst page under the search term "plane", and maybe is out of the search under the term "fly" because you dont use this term in your metadata.

In the other hand, if a pic sells a lot under certain term, this dont give to the image a better search position under other terms (this is speculative, but almost certainly does work well).

Again in the Boing 777 example, maybe you sell the image 1000 times under the term "boing" so it is the first in popularity under this term, but maybe you dont make any sale under the term "white", because the image have no sales under this search term.

The way that multi-terms combine is unknowed but it is a equation that link the sales of the terms used, like "boing" and "777", you have 1,000 sales under "boing" and maybe 350 under "777", other image have 550 under boing and 900 under "777", what image is first under the phrase "boing 777" ?? some logical rules are playing here, maybe the sum, maybe a more  complex equation, but essentially it works like this.

I hope to help everybody understand about how search engine motors works.

Regards

Actually SS pay us a minimum of 0,33 ...

According to this page, the minimum is still 25c:
http://submit.shutterstock.com/payouts

Yes, you are right, i just delete from my brain the dark age when i get just 0,25 per image...

Anyway, the math is not totally clear...

Most of users earn 0.33, 0,36 or 0,38...

240
Actually SS pay us a minimum of 0,33 (most of us get 0,36) per image sell but they offer: (!!)

750 image downloads for 199$, so they get 0,26 per image
(this is the main packet)

We have three posiblities here:
1-They are losing money
2-Most of people who paid for 750 images, just download 500 or less
3-They lie us, they report and pay just a % of real sales

What is your opinion?

241
You're thinking about Getty RM images.  Not micro.  No micro agency will ever sue anyone for any reason.

Thank you for your clarification.

Most blog post talking about this just say "you can be sued by using images of google search" some of them talk about microstock and some of them talk about Getty.

Im actually planing to start my blog about strength training and fitness (nothing really related with my microstock work) so im learning a lot about blogging world, it is an amazing world by the way.

Researching i discover a big fear about using unauthorized microstock images, and this is because a lot of blogs was sued for 8.000 US$ because of this. You can found a lot of blog post about this issue.

8K US$ seems to be the standar sue amount, but my question is: How much gets picture creator?? How much we get when somebody stole our pictures and the microstock agency sue them????

I think that the anwer is 0$... is this fear?

243
Im not familiar with video selling, how much is normal incoming per video?

244
Thank you for you replies

Not sure about other sites, but SS has said they will not accept images that are from public domain sources.  I believe this even includes editorial shots.

Im not asking to upload images to SS or other microstock site, i just want to upload some muscle images to my future fitness blog; everybody use this book images, also wikipedia, i just want to learn a little more about this kind of images licence to know if i can really use it in future.

245
Thank you for the reply.

You must also take in consideration that this is an old edition of the book, but actually the book have some new editions.

As i resarch before, an old book is public domain, but if an editorial take it and reprint it, they get some kind of copyright again or something like this (im no completlty sure of how it works).

246
Gray's anatomy is the anatomy book used in study of medicine in USA (im not talking about Grey's anatomy the tv show).

The 1918 edition is free now and you can check to book in the web site:
http://www.bartleby.com/107/

Some blogs on the net and also wikipedia uses this book images (muscular and bones images).

Any body knows if this book images are free to use now?

247
After sending my files and complete a page, it load the next page, but some of the old files (that was sended) are on list again... i fill metadata and send it again, because i dont know if files was sended correctly...

Files was uploaded by using browser, not FPT.

And feedback about this?

General Stock Discussion / Re: Poll - Earning per photo per year
« on: February 24, 2016, 13:14 »
The important question is not earning per photo per year, but Earning per hour of work...

I mean, you can get a great photo/illustration and sell a lot, but this means more time of work, or you can just spend the same time generation 10-20 simple photos/illustrations selling of course less per image...

Some people here make 1 dollar per image, other more that 50 dollars... but who works more? and who really earn more?
Yes  thats correct but need to take off any costs too

I know that what i propose is almos impossible because we never really know how much time we work taking photos or creating illustration, and it will be a big job to take control of that... so compare number of images with earning is more easy and also a good method ;)

249
Yes, same here.
And the images uploaded with ftp don't appear under "Image to be submitted" or appear only after a loooong time.

I recently recive a SS mail asking about FTP server upgrade, it will take this week (i create a thread about it), i think that it is realated to this...
