I'm still using the same Getty Images Contributors Forum that I've been using for months, since the original iS forums closed. It's had posts today, so it hasn't ended, nor did I notice anything saying that that one was closing.

I've never been able to get in. Did you originally get in with your IS log-in? That didn't work for me and the new ESP account I got yesterday doesn't work either -- including the link from the ESP page. Do I now need a third log-in?

No, we were all sent new passwords (which we then changed) to get into the new forum as was.
I didn't even realise there is an ESP forum until I read it here.
If you're not getting iS/Getty emails (check spam/junk folder/s), contact their support.

I just tried clicking on the "Contributor Community" link in ESP again and now it's working. At least, I got into the "community" site where the forums are located but I still can't see any of the actual forum content. I guess there must be some trick to achieving that in the user guide, which I'll chase down eventually.

It seems like nothing is working very well on the ESP page. I tried clicking on the "contributor community" link at the top of the page and got an error message that "this page is not redirecting properly."

Isn't this the new place to see the forums? I tried logging in before with my old IS username and password and it wouldn't let me in. Now it won't let me in with my new username and password.

As I understand it, some people were able to get into the Getty/IS forums using their old IS log-in information, while others weren't. Has anyone been able to access the forums using this ESP link?

I was able to log in today, no financial information whatsoever. It says on the Royalties page "Royalties data will not be available until your first transaction has occurred. Please try again next month." ABSOLUTELY NO ACCOUNT OF THE MONEY I HAD IN THERE FROM UNPAID 2016 ROYALTIES.

Did they send you the link and the top secret password? I still didn't get that. Without the new coded access, I can go to ESP and see nothing, just like many others.  >:(

If you mean you got authorized access and it looks like no financial information. Welcome to the exciting new site.  >:(

I got the email. They give you a new username and a unique link; you set your own password when logging in. There was no financial information of any kind available on my page, including no balance information. I'm still looking for evidence of an amount that was eligible for payout in January and disappeared from the third party app I was using to check the balance on the old IS site. There's nothing.

No info on previous sales either. Unless you've had sales in February, it says "Royalties data will not be available until your first transaction has occurred. Please try again next month."

My e-mail worked as a username with the istock password. Of course there was nothing to see once I got in.

I never got an e-mail about it.

No financial information, of course. I did see a FAQ page half-full of computer-code gibberish and a "contact us" link that redirected to an insecure page.

So, I got the email and was able to sign in. Great to see there's no financial information.  :(

Some of the links aren't working. One had a lot of computer-code gibberish on it. Another kicked up a "contact us" link to report the lack of access to the requested information which, on one browser, resulted in a message that the supposedly secure page is misconfigured and not secure. On a second browser, the message was that the certificate is invalid and the site is not secure.

Oh well...

just opened...
just amateurish, just buggy, just empty...

just Getty??

what is happening with that company?

I can't sign in with my IS log-in info, just as with the Getty forum. Nor have I received an email from iStock telling me how to do so.

Have others started getting the keys to the kingdom yet?

You can still use:

https://secure.istockphoto.com/my_uploads?order=LastDownload&page=1

for a few days more I think.

Thanks for this link. Are the images shown this way actually in the last download order? Since they've removed the column heading that you used to be able to click to re-order the images this way, it's hard to tell. I'm not sure from looking at my list; with sales so sparse, I can't remember what sold the last few times.
Yes, credit sales only.

Okay, thanks.

I'll be curious to see if the balance keeps showing up on this iOS app even after the official switch to ESP.

You did understand the January 31st part right? It's potentially going to all gone from IS any day after that, without notice. If you want the data and the past, download it now.

Yes, I understood what IS told us would happen. What makes you think that has any bearing on what actually will happen?

« on: January 28, 2017, 03:27 »
Yesterday, I was very close to a payout but all of a sudden today I'm seeing a balance of only a few dollars (in iStock Stats app). I assumed there was a payout, but I didn't get an email and no money was added to my PayPal account.

I don't see a credit sale that would have put me over the payout amount. I guess I could have some subscription sales but it would be an unusually high amount for my small portfolio. So maybe they just knocked the balance back to a fraction of what it was before because...why not? Maybe this is my "alternative balance."

Can this get more surreal?

I can confirm that the iStock Stats app is still updating account balance information. I managed to eke out a sale yesterday and the balance was updated.

ETA: Am I correct that there's no way now to find out which image was sold?

This doesn't work for me. The data I obtain fron both sources does not show any activity beyond 21st December  (possible, but unlikely !!)

I only downloaded the iStock Stats app in early January and it did show a new balance that reflected my one sale in the first week of January, so it was working at least up to that point. I haven't had any sales since then -- which doesn't surprise me in the least -- so I can't tell whether it's still able to update the balance.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: ESP

As for deepmeta, if it's actually working for balance totals then I'm in deep trouble because it's been stuck on zero since December and I can't remember going this long without a credit sale.
It's working (to some extent*) for me and for several others. I haven't read of anyone saying it isn't working.

*You can double check in your stats graphs on your home page. I can see my (few) January sales there, in DM (can sort sales by last downloaded, triangle down), and by following the link on the iS forum to 'last downloads' (you don't see the date of value of lilcences, but if you know what sold last you can see when sales are added).

Thanks for this useful tip. I've been using the iPhone app iStock Stats to check my balance but it hasn't budged since I started using it near the beginning of January. Given the moribund state of my tiny portfolio, it was entirely possible that there was nothing more to report, and checking my stats graph as you suggested confirmed this. :(

If anyone else who's using this app could let me know if you're still getting updated balance info, I'd appreciate it.

I still do not understand why they won't show us our balance as long as it's still located on their site -- which it must be if these third party apps can pick it up.
You're expecting a level of technical competence which possibly does not exist there.

I don't expect any level of technical or any other form of competence from them but if they had just done nothing, the balance information would still be visible. They could have waited until the other system was ready to go but I guess they don't have the competence to leave well enough alone either.
Yeah, but as well as technical sub-competence, they also suffer from logic bypass.

I'm not sure there's a complete absence of logic here. Given our predictable reaction to their latest and greatest exciting and beneficial new plan, their tactic is in fact quite logical -- the less we know, the better.

I'm still getting account balance and all the old stats through the "i$tock Stats" app for iPhone. Not sure if anyone else is using that app? Just a heads up for those looking to gather account balance info.

Thank you! I just downloaded the app and, indeed, I can see my balance. I'm even a few pennies closer to payout than I was when iStock went dark. :-)

There is a post from Admin on the iStock/Getty user forum about these problems.
...
They also say that user's current iStock balance can be seen if you make use of DeepMeta or the iOS app iLucidata.

Obviously this is far from ideal but I've posted this info in the hope it may shed some light on what is happening there.

How absurd is it that iStock sends its contributors to third party apps to get their iStock financial information instead of being provided that information by...well...iStock.

And how can these apps access that information anyway if we can't find it? If it's still on iStock somewhere, why can't iStock just show it?

I'd be tempted to say "unbelievable" if we're weren't talking about iStock....

I can get into the Getty Forum using my usual Istock login details. Perhaps you have something wrong?

The forums there appear to indicate that this is a temporary problem, and support provided this link to view stats for the time being: http://www.istockphoto.com/user_stats.php?id=000000&Offset=-1&DownloadsGraphFileType

Hope it helps you until the site mess is sorted out.

I still cannot log into the Getty forum with my iStock username and password. I tried a couple of days ago and all I got was "Your login attempt was not successful. Please try again." That's what I'm still getting now.

How is it that some people can successfully use their iStock log-in and others cannot?

The only thing I ever checked on my iStock page was my current balance and now that's gone. Can anyone provide me with a link to this ESP location on the Getty site where I supposedly will be able to eventually, maybe, get this information? I presume I'll have to log in to see it -- so if Getty keeps refusing to accept my iStock username and password, what am I supposed to do?

This sets a new record for screw-ups from the champion of screw-ups. I don't have much left at stake at iStock but I'd still like to know when I can expect the next payout. I can only imagine how frustrating this is for those of you who still count on a regular income from them.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: iStock will remove sales stats per FEB 2017
« on: December 15, 2016, 12:13 »
There's not much left of my portfolio but I guess I might as well archive what information is there. The thing is, I can't figure out how to download a CSV file of my stats. I couldn't find anything that would allow me to do this on my stats page, nor anywhere else I looked. The FAQ was useless.

Could someone here point me in the right direction?

Go to your STATS page and wait patiently till your bar charts appear.  You'll see "DAILY" :  click on it and choose "MONTHLY".
Right above "monthly" you'll see the word GROSS ROYALTIES and (in my case) a box with "X" (like an image that cannot be displayed).
If you hover over that X, you'll see "GET YOUR DAILY STATISTICS IN CSV" :  click on it and wait.  (I know, it says DAILY, but you get Monthly).
You can save each year, divided per month, in an Excel spreadsheet.
(but wait with 2016 until a few days after year end).
If you get an ERROR page, start all over again, as the BACK button doesn't work.

Thanks for this information. I tried what you suggested and didn't see the X next to Gross Royalties. It dawned on me that this could be related to my ad blocker on Firefox, so I disabled the ad blocker but that didn't work either. Finally, I tried using Safari and there, at least, I got a question mark, not an X -- but it did allow me to download the file.

I've been having a lot of problems lately with Firefox not showing some elements on web sites. Some of it is related to the ad blocker but in other cases, it seems as though FF simply can't display these items. It's annoying.

As a side note, seeing all the annual royalties at once like this really highlighted the precipitous drop in earnings since the peak in 2010. I knew they were in free-fall but I'd never looked at the yearly stats like this before.

Polar - it looks to me as if the website will be revamped with most of the stuff there now disappearing and being replaced by a monthly statement showing which images sold for what on all the various programmes -  getty, isstock credit sales, istock subscriptions, photos.com, thinkstock and whatever. Right now some of that information simply doesn't seem to be available and other stuff, while there, is almost impossible to access.

Okay, thanks. Right now, the only page I bother to look at is the "My Uploads" page with my current balance listed at the bottom. That hasn't changed so far. (Neither has my balance, unfortunately.)

I've always been puzzled why the information about my downloads is on the "my uploads" page.

The esp system for video was good. And they say they will keep deepmeta etc,,,so you dont need to change your workflow.
They seem to be replacing their own native uploading, so my workflow - if I were to restart uploading - would need to change.

I couldn't make much sense of this announcement. All I want to know is whether -- and how -- this affects someone like me who no longer uploads images to my portfolio and will never do so again. I deactivated a substantial portion of my port after previous debacles but have left the remaining images to collect what few pennies they can -- and they are fewer each day. I'm not going to jump through hoops for a portfolio in its final death spiral so this could be the final straw that forces me to just close my account.

Two questions for anyone who has been able to figure out what this "exciting and positive" news actually means:

1) will I still be able to view my earnings information where it is now or will I have to go somewhere else to find it?

2) I assume that, in the increasingly unlikely event that I ever see another payout, the money will still be sent automatically to my PayPal account as it is now, or will this require some hoop-jumping?

Off Topic / Re: Digital wallet payments
« on: August 18, 2016, 10:46 »
Do you think digital wallet payments is just a fad or do you think they're here to stay? I'm thinking about getting new credit card machines that can handle such payments. Do you think it'd be a good investment for my shop?

I don't think it's a fad either. I think people who use their cards a lot because they want or need to keep track of expenses will be particularly attracted to this technology.

You can also add loyalty cards to the wallet so everything's in one place and you don't have dig around for multiple cards. It certainly is efficient but I have to say there's kind of a surreal quality to doing transactions this way -- you have to keep reminding yourself that you are, in fact, spending real money. :-)

75
They do actually pay you when they sell a deactivated image, so you get an email about it.

They do pay (although I had to get in touch with support to get the image IDs for the money they initially sent me e-mail about), but they have no right to license deactivated images. Their rights were terminated when the file was deactivated.

I had an e-mail back and forth with them about this as they initially said they could sell extended licenses to someone who purchased an RF license while the file was active and I disagreed. After a long time, they admitted that they shouldn't have done that and that they do have checks to be sure they don't license deactivated files but they failed in this case.

I wasn't angry enough (and don't have endless free time and spare cash) to pursue this to make them undo the license once they admitted that they should not do that. But they were technically violating my rights over that image by selling a license to it without my consent.

Oh, I agree it shouldn't have happened. I was just pointing out that contributors are notified when it happens -- or at least they were. Who knows what's going on now.

I wouldn't put too much stock in their claim that they have checks in place to prevent this from happening. Several such sales (and the attendant promises) have been reported here and they were a considerable distance apart in time, so it's clear that any "checks" in place are non-functional, if they even really exist.

As they say, it's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.
