Pond5 / Pond5 do they review photos anymore?
« on: April 03, 2016, 14:15 »
I joined Pond5 over a week ago and still a batch of photos I uploaded to test out their site is just siting there waiting for review. I guess I'm just used to SS looking and approving the same day. Anyone know what Pond5 review time frame is like?

Thanks

« on: April 03, 2016, 13:44 »
I am confused with this sites layout. I opened an account their this week and uploaded some photos to see what would happen, I can't find any website navigation that shows you your portfolio or accepted or rejected images. Anyone know where to look for that.

Thanks.

Pond5 / Pond5 Ranking without Video?
« on: March 15, 2016, 12:22 »
Where do you think Pond5 ranks without video, if it was only photos? I'm thinking about adding my portfolio there but don't want to if they are not going to rank above Canstock. Also I see that their recommendation for your original file is $5 bucks. That seems really low and yet reading in the forum someone said they did it at $25 and Pond5 kept telling them they should lower their price.

Alamy.com / Alamy Refunds?
« on: March 14, 2016, 14:46 »
Every now and then Alamy refunds the money made on a sale from my portfolio back to the purchaser. Typically it will be for a high price sale. So that means they are purchasing the larger file size getting the down load and then asking for a refund. Whats to prevent them from then using the photo and having paid nothing?

Software / Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan and Lightroom Problems
« on: December 04, 2015, 03:39 »
Is anyone running Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan and using Lightroom. Last year I upgraded to Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan when it came out and it was not compatible with Lightroom 4 and PS CS5. My entire system went down. I had to restore my Mac back to its original operating system and I have not upgraded to the newer OSX. This bothers me because I would like to be using Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan but I need my Adobe Software to work.

Thanks

General Stock Discussion / Money Images in Photoshop Not Working
« on: October 04, 2015, 02:07 »
I was trying to import an image into photoshop tonight that had a portion of a hundred dollar bill in it and Photoshop said it could not open the image due to Currency issues and then wanted to direct me to some currency website.

Has anyone else had this problem of Photoshop recognizing money in the image and rejecting them?

It was flat on but it was only a third of the money. Anyone have a work around for this problem.

I ended up using Gimp instead but its not the same as using photoshop and was a pain to get the results I needed.

General Stock Discussion / GraphicStock are you Insane?
« on: September 28, 2015, 11:03 »
I don't know if anyone else has seen this but if you have and if your work is on this site Graphic Stock, I personally ask that you remove your work before the industry is completely destroyed! At what point are contributors going to come together and say enough already?

Graphic Stock is giving away unlimited photos for seven days with unlimited usage. Having been a graphic designer in the past for a media company I would simply go there and download for seven days straight and would have enough content to last for a long time, maybe even years if it was a well thought out download.

If this continues down this path stock photography will eventually all be free with sites making money from advertising which means practically no payout for any contributor.

Is there a law suit here? I thought I learned in school that this would be considered dumping and therefore driving down prices and illegal?

General Stock Discussion / Tethering Question?
« on: March 26, 2015, 13:53 »
I have a lot of questions today!

When I tether from camera to computer when in the studio My histogram on my camera does not match the histogram in Lightroom. So my camera will show that I have blown out the white background when photographing an isolated object but in Lightroom it does not show it as blown out, how can I fix this problem so that the camera and Lightroom have the same histogram results?

Thanks

Just wondering what is the best way to get pure white when isolating an object in studio? Currently I take my photos into Photoshop and use the pen tool to create a path and take the background to pure white with a grey scale shadow.

However days of editing each photo is taking its toll on my mouse hand. I have tried blowing out the background with a strobe but the light reflects back onto the object and creates all sorts of problems.

So I assume that I need to increase the distance from my backdrop to the object to cut down the reflective light from blowing out the backdrop, My question is not only will that work but in general about how far does the object need to be from the backdrop so that the reflective light won't be a problem?

General Stock Discussion / Stock Photography in Seattle
« on: March 26, 2015, 11:44 »
Just curious if anyone lives and does stock photography in and around Seattle WA. If so what kind of challenges do you face with weather or other things a fellow stock photographer would want to be aware of in the area such as drive time, parking, or whatever? I am looking for large cities in the USA to move to and I am considering Seattle.

Thanks

General Stock Discussion / Studio Space?
« on: March 25, 2015, 02:11 »
Just wondering what everyone does for a studio? I want to start photographing people in studio and out, outside the studio is a whole other question but for in studio once you start setting up a scene to photograph you need a pretty big space so just wondering if people are renting a space or working out of their garage or using a facility at a college or something? If you rent any tips on where to find large spaces for cheap?

My plan at the moment is to convert the garage but then I am not sure if that would come across as professional if you hire models or if it would be large enough?

Thanks

Hi everyone, just wondering if anyone has done photography in Florida or North Carolina and how humidity effects your Camera. Do things get really fogged up, do you have to take it in more often for cleaning, and what are some of the challenges of working in humidity besides sweating?

Also if you do live in these states I am thinking about moving to either Orlando FL or Charlotte NC what are some good neighborhoods or surrounding towns to live in?

In Florida is it safe to live near Cape Canaveral coastal areas, especially for hurricanes?

In Charlotte are there tornados?

Thanks

Shutterstock.com / SS Single & Other Downloads?
« on: March 14, 2015, 01:11 »
So I have been trying to wrap my brain around SS pricing and payout. For the longest time I thought Single & Other Downloads was an Enhanced License but it's not. When you look at their plans they offer Customers, Single & Other Downloads isn't really part of those plans but instead more of a personal case by case plan for big companies I assume?

So for instance if I get a $90 Single & Other Downloads sale I have received 30% based on my lifetime earnings. That means that the actual sale was $300 total, So what kind of sale is that, I can only assume its similar to the Enhanced License, the largest screen size at 300 dpi Tiff but with some special Licensing agreement?

And if so what kind of agreement would that be that does not already fall under the already all encompassing Enhanced License Agreement?

Thanks

General Stock Discussion / Enhanced License Question?

When a buyer purchases a Enhanced License from SS are they getting a jpg or tiff file? If its not a tiff, does SS ever offer tiff size files for purchase?

Shutterstock.com / SS Sales Slow For a Week!
« on: March 10, 2015, 19:01 »
I'm wondering if anyone else is seeing a drop in sales everyday for the last week? Are there mass uploads to ShutterStock? I am not understanding the sudden drop off in sales, I'm a full time stock photographer so the kind of drop I am seeing matters quite a bit.

Illustration - General / Vector Help Needed!
« on: March 03, 2015, 03:03 »
I just created my first vector for Micro Stock, I have no Idea if I did it right. Does anyone know how to save your image to submit to the various stock sites? I saved my image as an EPS with nothing checked in the saving options. I then saved a jpg with the save to web option at maximum and 4000 x 4000. Does that sound correct and if so what do you need to do when uploading to the sites to keep these two files together?

Thanks

Selling Stock Direct / Selling Direct Questions?
« on: March 02, 2015, 16:08 »
I have a few questions about selling direct. I know many don't think you should bother, but if I do bother maybe you can help me understand how this works.

Licensing for example, how would you go about that, simply copy what a big site is doing?

How do you police that license agreement or do you just hope they are honest?

When you do sell a photo, are you allowing them to download a jpg file at a set resolution or is there some other file type etc?

I've noticed that when I have a large format sell of a photo it could bring in upwards of $120 for my cut so that would mean about almost $400 for the the overall sale before the agency takes out their cut yet I have seen contributors on here say they would only charge $59 or something like that, that seems pretty low for pricing don't you think?

Which brings me to this question, if these various top four micro sites are selling millions of photos every day how do they enforce the licensing agreements that are being made? I don't even thing the US Gov could keep up with that!

General Stock Discussion / 123 Vrs Alamy
« on: February 23, 2015, 21:18 »
Just wondering if anyone make mores with 123RF than Alamy every month?

I also wonder if it is wise to place photos on middle tier and lower sites because wouldn't that mean graphic designers and others who are buying the stock photos would just go to middle and lower tier sites and purchase your photos there for cheaper?
