General Stock Discussion / Histogram in Camera vrs Lightroom.
« on: March 18, 2014, 15:04 »
I have noticed that the Histogram on my camera does not match the Histogram in Lightroom when I shoot tethered to my computer. Is there a way to make adjustments so that Lightroom's Histogram will Match my Cameras?

Newbie Discussion / Partner Sites Question?
« on: March 06, 2014, 01:53 »
So I just learned that upper tier sites own several partner sites, does that mean they place your photos on those partner sites and if so do you get paid for sales made on the partner sites? Also how do you opt out. I am currently on SS DT FT.

For those of us that are not Exclusive on any site, is it better to submit to every possible stock site or just the upper tier stock sites? On one hand it seems smart to get on every site possible, but on the other hand it seems like that would effect sales on your upper tier sites and would result in making less on your pictures with less volume of sales as well. Whats your thoughts on this?

I am still new to stock photography. When I first started I of course applied to get on as many stock sites as I could. Big Stock was one of them, but for some reason after just a few uploads I stopped uploading to them. Now days I have a lot of images on Shutterstock and recently learned that Big Stock is owned by Shutterstock.

Here is my question, having few images on Bigstock for a a while I can see that those images sold well on Bigstock, yet those same images on Shutterstock did not sell even a 3rd the amount of times. So my brain is telling me that people purchasing photos are going to Shutterstock and doing their search and then going over to Bigstock and doing the same search and finding the same image they saw on Shutterstock except now for cheaper thus resulting in many sales on Bigstock for those images and a lot fewer sales of the same images on Shutterstock for the same images.

What do you more experienced stock photographers think? Should I upload to Bigstock?

Shutterstock.com / Shutterstock Purchase Structure
« on: March 04, 2014, 11:29 »
Just wondering if anyone knows what the price per photo is when purchasing all photo sizes ad types from Subs to Enhanced sales. I was looking at their sub cost of $249 a month for 25 photo download a day which would cost .32 cents per photo yet I am paid .38 cent per sale so that seems like a operating loss for them. And if a subscriber buys a 3 month or year plan then the price for photo is even cheaper.

General Stock Discussion / Shutterstock Slump
« on: March 03, 2014, 16:22 »
I noticed in the last week with Shutterstock my sales per day have slumped from 30%-50% for no reason that I can figure out. Also on Friday it seemed as if the server was down half the day. Anyone experiencing something similar? is March a slow month? I have been watching my sales daily since I joined SS and month after month there has been a steady increase in sales so for this to happen seems strange to me.

General Photography Discussion / Grey Card Question?
« on: February 15, 2014, 18:09 »
So I have been using the same grey card for a year but its just a cheap cardboard one and I had to buy a new one. The Grey on the old one is a very light grey and the new one is a very dark grey, does that matter or will the result be the same for the 18% grey?

Thanks!

General Stock Discussion / Property Release Question?
« on: February 15, 2014, 02:29 »
I have tried submitting some diagram images and was rejected because they said I needed a Property Release. Is  there any thing I can do if the company who drew them are no longer in business?

Thanks!

General Photography Discussion / Depth Of Field Question?
« on: February 15, 2014, 02:25 »
Hello,

I am still very new to photography, when I look at some stock photos that are isolations, I notice that they are in complete focus. My mentor, has sugested using helicon focus, however I keep feeling like there must be a lens that can capture an object in complete focus? As of right now I have been taking multiple photos going across an object and ending up having to merge 25-50 photos in photoshop to get a picture completely in focus and its taking many hours to do that. I am using a 5D Mark2 with a 100mm lens.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Newbie Discussion / Average Commission?
« on: March 11, 2013, 20:15 »
So I was reading a post I started and people were talking about making .20cents up to $23 bucks for a sale. Right now my images are selling for .20-.25 cents regardless of size. On Dreamstime, and Fotolia. Just wondering why my commission is so low compared to everyone else?

Is is because I am a Newbie?

I am not sure how to keep a clipping path with my Isolations that I do in Photoshop when I export them from Lightroom 4. Is their a trick to this or does Lightroom 4 not support keeping the clipping path when you export. If I don't take the photo back into Lightroom, the version I save in Photoshop keeps the clipping path, however I take it back into Lightroom for metadata and key wording.

Help Please!

Thanks.

Newbie Discussion / What are Exclusive RF Licenses ?
« on: February 27, 2013, 05:46 »
Can Someone explain what Exclusive RF Licenses are, is it the same as being a Exclusive Contributor? Or is it similar to being an Exclusive Contributor except only with a particular image?

Or is it in reference to different ways you can sell your image and if so can someone explain what those differences are?

Thanks!

Newbie Discussion / Exclusive Differences ?
« on: February 27, 2013, 05:24 »
I am new to stock photography and trying to understand the exclusive options. If you are a exclusive contributor on a Micro site then all your photography can only be sold through them?

Can the Exclusive Contributor place images on other sites as long as they are not the same pictures place on the site you are a Exclusive Contributor on? If so can the pictures be similar in nature for example from the same photo shoot?

Newbie Discussion / Rejected Application to Istock Help!
« on: January 25, 2013, 03:12 »
Hi everyone I am new to stock photography and I want to join Istock. I can not post on Istock because I am not a contributor yet so I need some feedback on why I got rejected. Here is my Rejection letter and links to my photos I submitted. Any input is greatly appreciated.

The Colors are much more vibrant then seen here on photo bucket, I don't know whats up with photobucket but they look really dark, on my computer they look great! I have added smaller versions below since photo bucket looks so bad!

Thanks
