Off Topic / Re: Facebook / Google advertising help
« on: April 29, 2021, 14:53 »
Been looking for a new travel bag. I have a ton already from ones that can carry 2 complete setups, to crumplers, to sling bags. Every few years I change what I want to carry and it really is important to get the right bag for what you are shooting. I don't think what you're making is right for me but it does have some features I do like and seems really utilitarian for your needs. I hate the logos on bags and camera straps. I always see people with straps that advertise which model they have and think how helpful that must be to anyone looking to steal only the most expensive cameras. Congrats on the venture!

A few of my thoughts to improve: Writing over the fabric close up is hard to read, show more specs (weight, dimensions), show the inside, what are the flaps on the bottom for?, place for batteries or filter?, what's the name mean. Good luck, I'll bookmark your site if you move into other styles.

20% up from last year and about the same as two years ago. I'll take it, hopefully we've rebounded.

Don't forget SS knows what these numbers mean even if you don't. Who will they hurt? Small producers, small and medium ones, everyone? They have the info, whatever happens they knew it would. I have video with them, they won't get any more. That's my small contribution to the resistance. If we go where the money is we'll all do better.

Not as terrible as I expected, for what that's worth.

If you aren't getting accepted then you need to look to yourself. If you don't do quality work it doesn't matter which site you're on. Better to figure out what you can do to get accepted everywhere you want and then decide where to put your work.

Newbie Discussion / Re: New to stock, made my first sale
« on: April 26, 2020, 00:36 »
You can make it. It will be harder now. Topics that are relevant now are probably under represented so there is an opportunity. The longer this lasts the less opportunity for creating new and useful images will exist. Books on stock images are probably not helpful now since those markets are shutdown. Travel, handshakes, crowds, hugs, etc... are just not going to be bought for a long while.

9
Any updates on this topic?  Pete, there are two programs one is unemployment payments and one is a loan for small businesses that retain employees.  It looks like we should qualify since we can't work but has anyone been approved yet?

I'm not a native English speaker, but in microstock "Diversity in stock" means one and only thing:

here is a title of one of 10000000000 articles nowadays all around:

"Gaining A Competitive Edge: Seven Ways To Build Diversity And Inclusion In The Tech Workplace" (Forbes)

Since stock sites aim to serve all those big customers which have their own agenda mixed with political propoganda, we have what we have: constant reminder to shoot something that "has to be" popular by all means.

And this is why they don't get those topics "organically" - nobody is interested in shooting something that does not exist in real world.

4% of population who are LGBTYERKKDHJ or other people with psychiatric conditions, and socially accepted deviations aren't a "community" - they are just people living lives with their issues like everyone else, but we are forced to believe that at least 50% of people are like that and this is a norm and as a result there are mothers who change genger to their 3 y.o children (!!!) because a boy suddenly wants to wear a skirt.

Sorry, I'm not going to take part in these activities. If Adobe and others want to be responsible for the insanity it causes, good for them. Money making machine has no human feelings nor values anyway.

I'm out.
Funny how you say diversity means only one thing (LGBTQ issues) but the article you reference has nothing to do with those issues.  The article which takes about 2 minutes to read is about hiring women and a more diverse ethnic and racial workforce.  Not only are you a bigot but you're too lazy to read the article you put forward as evidence and just assume it says what you want it to.   That article is proof that "diversity" doesn't have just one meaning.  The ICD and DSM don't label LGBTQ people as having a disorder either, that's just more ignorant bigotry on your part.

11
Wow this took a turn.

Feel free to stick to your opinion and your definitions. I will stick to mine - this is Diversity :)
Nope that's just bigotry.

12
I'm 100% sure they're gonna be talking about color, ethnicity, LGBTQ, etc.  In that case, I'll say thanks, Mat, but no thanks. I'll pass on this particular webinar and look forward to the next one.

+1000000

Being a "free artist" is a great advantage, so I can skip on this corporate agenda and political stuff. Sick and tired of these "diversities" and LGBTQWatever nonsense all around, won't allow it in my work.

Make a vebinar on classic family values instead please :D since it seems we are here not only for photography craft anymore...
Wow this took a turn.  Since when is diversity anti family values?  There are so many things that could be said about this backwards view but I'll just say turn on the TV, look at a magazine, a movie or almost anything and you'll see why shooting diversity is important as a business decision.  And every one of those people you call nonsense is part of a family.

I have one, I like it alot but haven't submitted anything with it.  Quality is good, stabilization is great but it's useful mostly if you need a gimbal.  It won't replace a real video camera or dslr for most things.  About the "beta" thing, I think the hardware is what they use on their drones so not really a beta although the software is still new.

weapons are abused every day and they are still not forbidden. Some psychopath uses a hand gesture and it is banned everywhere. #GreatNewWorld
Building where SS headquarters is located:
I have a licensed firearm. Can I bring it?
Your firearm will be seized and you will be arrested unless you are a member of the following law enforcement agencies:

It's a private company, if they don't want images with the color pink in them or images of puppies they can ban them.  They get to make the rules.  Also free speech isn't a universal value, hate speech is banned in lots of places.

Of course they get to make the rules. Doesnt make it any less stupid. Do they post somewhere a list of banned gestures, or do contributors just have to wait for a rejection and then guess the reason? I never would have even thought to even look at such a list, if it even exists, for the ok sign. The world gets more stupid every day.  ::)
We haven't actually seen the picture, it may not be as simple as just the ok sign, there are hundreds of thousands of images on Shutterstock if you search "ok sign".  If I was running shutterstock I don't think I would want lots of nazi propaganda (like the salute for an example of a gesture) pictures on the site, that would be waiting for some really bad press when those images got used in recruiting or by someone committing violence.  I'm not sure but it may be illegal some places too.

Shutterstock.com / Re: SS allowing reselling of images
« on: May 09, 2019, 12:47 »
They several times mention a curated collection of 1 million images that will be part of this "program".

So this isn't the whole collection. Perhaps they have done a deal with one of the large factories to permit this use? Based on these descriptions, it doesn't sound like it's our content. More like those collections of not-so-great images that are sold as a bundle with resale rights; or the wholly owned stuff that Jupiter used to have.

The bad part about this is that instead of trying to build new revenue options for all their contributors, they're putting energy into siphoning off a portion of the market that we will no longer get to sell into - assuming this is a successful program.

People buying images through this sales channel won't be buying from the main Shutterstock collection - less business for us (when it's already showing year to year declines in sales)
Business plan is 260 million files

Why?

I've been exclusive for the last decade but now I'm going non-exclusive. I've got about 25,000 images in my portfolio to upload so I need to choose my agencies wisely. I'll hit all the biggies .. SS, AS, IS, P5, AL, 123 & DT .... but what would be say the next top 3 to 5 sites after that?

and I'm not interested in any stock submitter services. thanks

what i thought was the most scaring thing in the near future is begin to happening...thousand of exclusive contributor from getty who will soon dump their status and splash another 30 40 million images around ss and adobe...i tell yu ...if you think to sell more than getty think twice....most of agency like fotolia or ss practically sell mostly established files...most of new stuff don't sell, or will sell in long time, because nobody is looking for new file especially for generic theme. so if you have a niche good if not think twice, you will be extremely disappointed...in 2017  sold practically 2 times download for each new file uploaded that year, in 2018 the % has fallen down to 1 download eery 4 files, 2019 is appalling in terms of files uploaded in 2019 like 1 download every 20 new file, ok we are only in april but tendency is not good at all for new files...old files with good searching position sells eery day.
so maybe in stock you all less than the past, but thin also about the fact that new files don't have that selling window like in the past, so being new your file if not uploaded soon after uploader  risk to be buried by thousand of files. anyway another reactor to kill revenue.
I don't think he's exclusive at getty.

Hmmmm just got the email.  It says the new terms will add "Clarification on when and why accounts may be suspended or terminated due to copyright infringement" but nothing about when people infringe upon your work is changed or clarified so what do they mean?  They did add that "If you knowingly or repeatedly submit false copyright infringement claims and takedown notices to Shutterstock, Shutterstock reserves the right to disable or delete your account with no further notice to you."  also you have to file a DMCA takedown request and "Shutterstock has no obligation to pursue legal action against any alleged infringer of any of your rights in and to any Content. "

So the clarification about infringement and suspended accounts looks to be a warning about reporting infringement.  Not a good look.
Also adding in the arbitration stuff is another way to stop you from complaining about infringement.

21
Arbitration and Copyright Infringement seem to be the biggest changes unless I missed something.

Everything is bad.  AS is half what it was last month, Canva, 10% of highs, Pond, one sale so far.

canta is finished. worst than can stock. what getty touch become crap i already wrote and is so true. since mid december i have only 0,35 cent sale. unbelievable.
Getty owns Canva?

Getty made a deal to supply Canva with photos... which is cutting into Canva contributor sales.
Oh, what deal?

It's referred to in this thread:

https://www.microstockgroup.com/canva/how-are-the-earnings-going/msg525619/#msg525619
It looks like all the photos are $1 or free when making a design not just Getty ones.
