"In the past year, we have further upgraded the ways that we review content by introducing innovative data-driven auditing to monitor and manage reviewer performance. Despite the diligent review procedures we have in place and the immense number of the content submissions, the efficiency of our review team enabled us to get the vast majority of images up on our site in less than 24 hours."

Off Topic / U.S. gov't agencies ask for free work, too.
« on: April 11, 2015, 11:55 »
First prize might seem like a lot, but this contest requires someone to do research, write and design. It's a lot of work. Most people get nothing, some get the infamous "exposure." I'd rather my taxes just paid a team outright.

iStockPhoto.com / Getty and Microsoft "ink" new partnership
« on: April 08, 2015, 10:35 »
"Today, however, the two sides announced a new partnership 'to develop image-rich, compelling products and services for Microsoft products like Bing and Cortana using Getty Images world class imagery.' The companies will partner 'to provide real-time access to Getty Images imagery and associated metadata to enhance the Microsoft user experience.'

I have no idea what this means for Getty/iS contributors. But why do I assume it's bad news?

General Stock Discussion / Dumb photoshop question
« on: April 05, 2015, 06:02 »
Hi guys,

Is it possible for a jpg to have layers when you open it in Photoshop? I'm clueless because I work in Illustrator. A customer is upset that a jpg she bought doesn't have layers. I though jpg just compressed everything into one flat layer?

General - Top Sites / iStock SEO email
« on: March 18, 2015, 18:35 »
Just got the email about revising titles and descriptions of all my images (boy, does that sound like a lot of work to no end). I click on the first example they give of a rewritten description, which describes a little boy playing with "figurines," but there are no figurines in the image....unless Canadians consider toy houses and cars figurines? "A figurine (a diminutive form of the word figure) is a statuette that represents a human, deity or animal."

They give me a headache.

*Sigh*

iStockPhoto.com / Did iStock just lower credit prices?
« on: March 14, 2015, 06:20 »
Now when I sign in I see a red-bannered offer to buy credits for $12 each or 3 for $33. Weren't the new lower credit prices on par with Shutterstock before...about $14.50 each as an entry point?

General Stock Discussion / Twenty20?
« on: February 27, 2015, 10:11 »
I haven't heard of them...but they started as a print on demand service, so I'm guessing many of you know who they are? They claim to have more images than Shutterstock:

Edited to add: They used to be known as InstaCanvas?

Well, this is fun.  >:(

This person "can't find" my font, but links to it on Shutterstock. And then you have people suggesting he just trace it. Lovely.

Now, it's possible they paid for the license and then kept the watermark to make a point, but hmmm....I don't know.

Off Topic / Designer slams Showtime for asking for free work
« on: August 19, 2014, 13:03 »
You gotta love this guy. Showtime asked him to enter a contest for "exposure," and he tweeted his exchange with them. Getting lots of press.

Sounds great, but What do you all think of its chances? I don't have any work on FAA so am unfamiliar with it.

Shutterstock.com / Sales stopped?
« on: May 31, 2014, 19:00 »
Around lunchtime today my sales simply stopped completely. Usually I'd have at least 15-20 additional sales by now. Anyone else, or is this just a very very odd day for me?

Shutterstock.com / New financial analysis of Shutterstock
« on: May 16, 2014, 13:37 »
"General tech sell-off and Getty giving away "Free" images put pressure on Shutterstock.
Getty's move is not as bad for business as it looks.
Shutterstock has established and is growing a competitive advantage.
The company is growing fast but has only captured 4% of a $6 billion dollar market that is growing fast itself."

Adobe Stock / How to opt out of Dollar Photo Club
« on: May 15, 2014, 11:40 »
This tends to get buried in the longer threads. Let's keep the momentum going and continuing the opt-out!

Go to your Contributor page.
Under My Account, select My Profile (https://us.fotolia.com/Member/Modify).
Select Contributor Parameters (https://us.fotolia.com/Member/Modify/Contributor).
Find Sell my files on DPC and click Modify.

And, from another contributor: "Then check that where you ticked actually says, "do not share on DPC". It's one of those sneaky buttons that if you press it again it will revert to share." after clicking Modify you need to "Save parameters" at the bottom of the page. Otherwise the changes will not stick.

Facebook is reconfiguring its "sidebar" ads to be twice the size, and with larger size will probably come higher prices...no doubt folding in the cost of using Shutterstock images.

iStockPhoto.com / 30 seconds
« on: August 12, 2013, 10:14 »
That's how long it took iStock's website to show me the status of my recently uploaded (and not inspected for five days now) files. It's like the stone age. What's up with their IT department? Do they have any clue how much that dissuades people from uploading?
